That's the ratty kind of journalist who is deemed fit to pronounce judgement on a brave man like Nawaz (among whose flaws seems to be that he likes to wear "Harris tweed waistcoats and red corduroy pants", according to the author of the second hit piece. Nawaz must be a really bad person.).

The piece at the second link was written by an islamist apologist called Nathan Lean, author of a book titled The Islamophobia Industry: How the Right Manufactures Fear of Muslims. That title should tell you enough. It is hardly necessary to point out that someone whose thesis seems to be that fear of Muslims has nothing to do with terrorism and a totalitarian ideology, but has just been manufactured by the Right, is an apologist of the worst kind.

But it is not enough for KG to parrot hit pieces written by apologists for Islamism. No, he wouldn't be a FreethoughtBlog commenter if he didn't throw in some guilt-by-association. An acquaintance of Nawaz is apparently an acquaintance of Richard Spencer, and Richard Spencer is the Nazi who recently got punched, so...um, enough said. KG's suggestion is that Maajid Nawaz is probably secretly a Nazi, even though he is a member of the Liberal Democrats (Nawaz is British). Or something. Just fling some dirt, the smelly baboon KG seems to think, and some of it may stick.

And this is how Trump gets his voters on a silver plate. Those who see reasonable people like Nawaz getting vilified by the Regressive Left (a term invented by the same Nawaz) must feel that they are getting vilified too (for believing that Nawaz is a reasonable guy, although he may have his flaws, like a propensity to wear red corduroy pants). They may not vote for a party that doesn't distance itself from the type of mud-slinging loon that is represented by KG and the dishonest hacks that he or she cites.

Speaking of Islam and Maajid Nawaz, and particularly for those interested in or living in “Canuckistan”, seems there’s a forthcoming debate on a member’s Bill (M-103) that looks set to, in effect or intent at least, create a law criminalizing “islamophobia”. More specifically, I might point you to a Washington Post article [2] which describes how a “Bill banning child marriage fails in Pakistan after it’s deemed ‘un-Islamic’”. Are the Canadian government, and the Liberal Party, going to insist that criticizing such barbarisms is to be denied because it might be construed as “islamophobic”? And that’s hardly the tip of a rather mephitic iceberg. Consider this case – described in damning detail on the website [3] “Why Evolution Is True” of the well-regarded biologist and author Jerry Coyne, and in a “Daily Beast” article [4] by the well-known Muslim reformer Maajid Nawaz – that shows an odious level of support among the Muslim community – both in Pakistan and in Britain – for killing people for “supposedly” being guilty of blaspheming Islam. A few specifics from Coyne’s post, some of which quotes Nawaz:
In a new piece at the Daily Beast, moderate Muslim Maajid Nawaz has sorrows. Why? Because members of his very own branch of Islam, the Barelwi sect of Pakistani Sufi Islam, are not behaving moderately.

The backstory is this: a Christian woman in Pakistan, Asia Bibi, was sentenced to death for blasphemy, apparently a charge cooked up by local Muslims who could not forgive her for drinking from the cup they used. (She’s still in jail.)

Then, a “flamboyant secular Muslim,” Salmaan Taseer, governor of Punjab province, defended Asia Bibi in public and lobbied for a lightening of Pakistan’s odious laws against blasphemy. That itself was considered blasphemy, and so, in January, 2011 Taseer was gunned down with an AK47 by his bodyguard, Mumtaz Qadri. Predictably, thousands of Pakistanis considered Qadri to have done a heroic thing, and protested in his favor. Nevertheless, he was arrested and hanged for murder on February 29 of this year.

What bothers Maajid most, though, is the reaction of his fellow British Muslims, including those of his own sect, to Qadri’s “martyrdom”. And here I’ll quote Nawaz himself:

Even in the U.K., the reaction has been difficult to comprehend.

Previously, a quarter of my fellow British Muslims have expressed sympathy with the terrorists who attacked the Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris. And now, certain Muslim religious and community “leaders,” who position themselves as anti-ISIS and “mainstream,” have come out publicly praising Qadri as a hero.

One of Europe’s largest mosques, the Barelwi Sufi-managed Ghamkol Sharif in Birmingham, U.K., held a wake “in honor of the lover of the Prophet, Warrior Mumtaz Qadri, the martyr.”

Another Barelwi Imam, Muhammed Asim Hussain, whose verified Facebook page has been liked nearly 137,000 times, posted his position openly:

“A dark day in the history of Pakistan; the day Ghazi [warrior] Mumtaz was wrongfully executed and martyred in the way of Allah, when he did what he did in honor of the Prophet.”
And there are many similar horror stories about other people, including those within the Ahmadiya sect of Islam [5], being murdered by other Muslims simply because they are supposedly guilty of the “crimes” of apostasy, heresy, or non-belief [6]. Surely, the Liberal Party and the Government of Canada isn’t going to insist that criticisms of such barbarisms are going to be silenced simply because they might be criminalized as “islamophobic”?

The (late) British philosopher Anthony Flew, in his review [7] of “Why I’m Not a Muslim”, argued that that book provided voluminous justification for concluding that “Islam is flatly incompatible with the establishment and maintenance of the equal individual rights and liberties of a liberal, democratic, secular state”. And if that is really the case – and given that there are virtually no Muslim democracies, Turkey being the sole and rather sad failed experiment in that regard, and given that virtually no Muslim groups or communities in the West have explicitly repudiated Sharia and halal and child marriage and FGM and gender segregation, among other equally problematic “values” – then it’s hard not to see that that thesis is rather conclusively proven.

Seems to me that far too many in Western society, journalism and governments, including our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, are far too quick to pander to the Muslim community and vote – as in his apparent condoning of egregious cases of gender segregation among Muslims [8] – while turning a blind eye to the many odious aspects of Islam. And Bill M103 is really only one more clear manifestation of that, and should be soundly defeated and rejected – or, at the very least, sent back for some serious discussion of the issues involved by both the Government and society in general.

Finally, somewhat in passing, I would really like to know how it is that Saudi Arabia, a Muslim country with arguably the worst human rights record in the world, was chosen to head the UN Human Rights Council [9]; where was Canada’s vote in that travesty? In addition, as I see that you’re on Twitter, I do hope you will also take a close look at the comments under the #NoToM103 hashtag.

I think that in some cases this is deliberate. SJWs thrive on victimhood. They know that Neo-nazis are violent cunts who would take the pendants as a challenge. They're counting on getting attacked to then whine how society is a haven for violent white supremacists and nazis.

The whole "Nazi punching" idea is both a way to justify violence against their political enemies and critics (who are. of course, all nazis, even liberal reformers of islam like Maajid Nawaz, because he knows someone who knows Richard Spencer, so nazism is a transitive property) and a ploy to cry about how they're innocent victims if a real neo-nazi punches them.

Leftists in general love calling all their political rivals fascists or nazis. In Italy quite recently the Five Star Movement, a web-based political party which is a) overwhelmingly in support of same-sex marriage, b)against political corruption, c) very much in favor of net neutrality, open source, direct democracy, environmentalism, etc. and d) Euroskeptic has been accused of being a "fascist" party when its leader, the comedian-turned politician Beppe Grillo, praised Nigel Farage and proposed a cap on immigration.

Now I'm not a fan of the Five Stars, they spread a lot of bullshit and conspiracy theories and Grillo has fallen for some pretty obvious scams in the past, and I don't think that direct democracy through the web is such a good idea, but they're not a fascist party by any means. If anything they're center-left or centrists by European standards (some very much to the left by American standards, although they refuse any label). But to some people in the left, especially the "militant" left (the kind of people who wear Che Guevara T-shirts) anyone who might express any idea against open borders is a "fascist".

The same Italian leftists are also convinced that pretty much every party in Switzerland is a fascist party because there's a widespread consensus among Swiss parties on things like caps and quotas on immigration, integration through learning the local languages and respecting laws and principles of Switzerland, the requirement of a positive review from a local council to get a Swiss citizenship, and huge limits on the political and social activities of islam.

I don't think that the SJWs are an an extraneous element in the left, some kind of infiltration. I think that they're the natural progression of the militant "anti-colonial" left, only with a post-modern identity politics flavour.

In general I think that there's a new political axis to add to the traditional left/right and libertarian/authoritarian ones.

Today parties and movements also divide themselves along the nationalist/globalist spectrum, where nationalists see nations or local communities in general as the political actors through which the will of the people is expressed, and see borders as the limits of one nations's jurisdiction, while globalists see international institutions and international rules as the most legitimate political actors because they represent the will of humanity as a whole, and see nations and borders as obstacles to be gradually or swiftly made irrelevant or removed.

The SJWs are left-authoritarian globalists, so anyone who's not a staunch globalist (even if they're left-wing and share many of their alleged social and political values) is a "fascist" or "nazi" to them.

Last week's This American Life... #609, "It's working out very nicely" was about Trump's immigration ban.

At this point, I expect the show to tell stories designed to feed anti-Trump fear, anger & butthurt. But last week they skipped the This American Life format of bothering to actually tell a story.

The show began with generic audio clips, of a relevant voice being interviewed, like any npr news story... But interspersed with Ira Glass offering his opinions & reactions between the clips.

In their rush to tell poignant immigration ban stories, they skipped-over actually doing- so.

Next came a tale more in the correct format. A man whose wife worked for a US compamy during Iraq occupation. She's already in the US. He has been in a scary 3 year process to get here. (From Sweden. already got out of Iraq.) He was stoppeed getting off a plane. Held for 6 hours in a little room. Then handcuffed for transport... back to Iraq not Stockholm! He would have to begin the 3 year application from all over! Except, nope, he was set free into US.

This was spun as an example of Trump's ban Not working. Being some unprecedented debacle.

Not as conclusive as the twitter user thinks (the previous "burn in an oven" tweets could have been deleted by twitter, also Silverman could have paraphrasing some other insults), but interesting to know.

Anyway this is what I've found. There are some references to conservative christians on Facebook telling Silverman to burn in an oven when she mocked Jebus back in 2015.

I don't doubt that Silverman, like pretty much all famous Jewish people and a lot of non-famous ones, gets a lot of anti-semitic insults from nazis, fundamentalist christians and muslims, too. A significant part of those insults are probably from trolls.

It's disgusting and vile, but it's part of the nature of the Internet. People insult people over anything, and violent rhetoric is used on every side of the aisle ("die cis scum"/"die in a fire", etc.).

However she might have exaggerated more than a bit about getting weekly "burn in an oven" tweets.

Also being insulted on the internet doesn't give you the right to stir shit over a sign you don't understand by immediately claiming it's a swastika. Silverman should have apologized without trying to defend herself, said "I made a mistake, next time I'll check before posting".
