Marcuntte was writing the exact same sort of stuff ten years ago when she was plucked out of nowhere to start contributing to Pandagon. She may be savvy at marketing and promoting her shtick (which, despite knee-jerk assumptions, does not necessarily mean it's all a cynical scheme), but I have no doubt she's a true believer who will still be finding entrenched misogyny behind every tree and under every bed even if she returns to obscurity.ConcentratedH2O, OM wrote::clap:  :clap:Badger3k wrote:In other news, Ophie has a post up about more "atheism has a dudebro problem". Yes. This is partly why the Pit is such a wonderful place to visit as a semi-lurker. The place is full of variety, interest and honesty, usually delivered with humour. I can easily skip over anything that is either boring or irritating to me. Of course I may be biased because although I have personal boundaries the Pit has never overstepped them; I think that the reason for this is that everyone here has a warm, genuine heart and would never do real harm. Even the arseholes. I used to lurk over at the FTBlogs but I no longer bother because I kept seeing too much there that was frustrating or upsetting to me. My attitude to them is similar to my view of creationist screeds; I only look at them when I see a link from a place where they are being debunked.Gumby wrote: I think it's entirely Pit-like-esque to have loud pointless arguments about anything and everything. If people want to argue about their own personal boundaries and what they find offensive and inoffensive, I see nothing unPit about that. Really, the way I see it, arguments like this are what make this place almost entirely self-policing. With an obnoxious attention-whoring exception or two, discussion such as this help members gauge the general attitude of the Pit community, and this helps people when they consider posting something NSFW. At least, I'd like to think so.

Oh so because you couldn't tell her race in some picture (make-up, good lighting, photoshopped) pictures, that's some how fair game.
I would argue that black people are not oppressed, that there is no such things as microaggression and that why casual racism surely exist, it a small challenge that most people are able to get past every day of their lives.
I would argue that being a certain race, or mixed, does not give you any extra clout when talking about issues that face society. That while you have surely had different experiences from me because of your race, it does not make it sure I can not think critically about the subject.
I would argue that much of the "black experience" at least in America is much more a result of class than of color.
But hey you go ahead and tell her, she isn't mixed. Go head. Because arguing that point you are by default allowing that oppression, microaggression and casual racism are big issues, and only certain people are allowed to discuss them.

I actually agree with you on most points you make. I just wanted to point out that her story of her oppression look even less believable than others. If you are 5 feet 11 inches tall but complain that people bully you for being short, I find it a little hard to believe.

Not sure she's really, herself, claimed to be a "victim" of racism. You may find this hard to believe being what I have been saying but she looks pretty black to me in her twitter photo and every other picture posted so far. Maybe it is just my white southern racist roots showing but looking past her skin tone and at her physical features I would assume she was mixed. (on a side note there was a story on tv recently about biracial twins, I looked for it and could not find it, one was suppose to look white while the other black, both looked black to me just a skin tone difference)Kirbmarc wrote: I honestly don't know if she is, and she could be, for all I care. No I don't think they will ever stop yelling about neckbeards but I do know that if they are the only one making unnecessary personal attacks then people will stop listening to them.
The Klan use to have some pull. So did the Black Panthers. When looking a less organization and more at ideology look at the gay marriage issue in America. In the 80s most of the country was against it. Now most of the country is for it. Part of the reason is because the major opponents such as ole' Pat Robinson keep making retard claims that all the bullshit that the gheys bring.
When a woman says "people don't respect women" and your response is to go "she is ugly" even if it is just in a list of two hundred issues you have with the woman, then you just gave them the weapon they need.

Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
I guess i just don't really get what "black" means then. I always thought that being classified as "black"by racists was a matter of skin tone. You may find this hard to believe being what I have been saying but she looks pretty black to me in her twitter photo and every other picture posted so far. Maybe it is just my white southern racist roots showing but looking past her skin tone and at her physical features I would assume she was mixed. (on a side note there was a story on tv recently about biracial twins, I looked for it and could not find it, one was suppose to look white while the other black, both looked black to me just a skin tone difference)
Because I thought that the point she was making was "I'm black, I experienced racism, therefore I can't be racist against blacks". The conclusion of this syllogism is of course a fallacy, but I was having doubts about the "I experienced racism" part of the premise, too.And all she has to say is she is "white presenting" because of the x,y,z of her oppression. Why not just accept what she says about herself and argue the points she is making?
It turned out it was someone else who made the claim, so I made a mistake.

Cool I agree with you too on that (as often with forums I am catching up). To celebrate our understanding let me sing you the song of my people.

To be fair questioning other people's claims what you do as a skeptic. PZ, if anything, is far too trusting (when it suits his ideology).I just hate this game of questioning every little thing a person says. It is exactly what PZ and his bunch does.
Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
No where I am from it would denote where your ancestors come from is in a very broad term. You are either white (from any upper European country, British isles, russian) Black (anywhere in Africa), Chinese (any Asian), Mexican (Mexico and below), or Camel Jockey (Middle East, Indian sub continent, lower European countries).Kirbmarc wrote:I guess i just don't really get what "black" means then. Don't matter the skin tone, just that someone in your past was from there at some point. Except white. You must have a clean line back.
I didn't make the rules but I grew up around them.

There is skepticism and then there is hyper skepticism. There is also asking the relative questions and not worrying about the unimportant stuff.
If I told you a spaceship came down out of the sky at 6 am and purple being from the planet Glick got out and and told me I should rape your mother and that you should help, it really should not be important if was 6 on the dot or 5 after 6.

Oops - strawman. You're working from the basis that the only, or greater portion, of the responses people make to radfem excesses is to say, 'you're ugly etc etc'. This is bollocks. My remarks as to the Quimster's physical rankness weren't in response to any argument she put forward. I just said it because I don't like her and because it's true. There's plenty of good counter-argument out there - and if it's sauced up a little by some personal remarks from either side - well, that's people for ya.comhcinc wrote:Tigzy wrote::lol: - it wouldn't fucking end anyway. Seriously, if you don't think insulting people based on their looks is a good idea - then just don't do it. I dunno, maybe you're someone so lofty in your refinements that you've never made a judgement call on someone's appearance - I mean, I can definitely see you as the type to go for personality over looks (oh meow, girlfriend).

Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
One marked difference between the current Nugent discussions and the ones from last year is the awareness people have of their tactics. It was frustrating last year that the SJW's were believed so readily and it took enormousness effort to deal with that. It seems to take a lot of time for some people to accept the obvious about their tactics despite it being easily observed. You still see this blinkered attitude with some people, notably several posters at JREF, but at least it seems the silent majority has finally worked them out.
But really, if the SJW's had any subtlety their effectiveness would be considerably higher and they would be winning. Why some people need the obvious pointed out to them, with substantial evidence, for two years before they accept it is beyond me. The SJW's are always about cult tactics. They attack leaders and abuse anyone who disagrees with them while controlling spaces and establishing a tribal ethos. They have been doing this openly. So why were so many blind to it?
