Twitter Temperance League starts off the New Year with a fresh roasting of Bora Zivkovic who crimed against women today by coming back onto twitter without asking their permission and without wearing his cilice.

Another example of why taking these loons seriously is fucking pointless. You can never win. Never. So don't play.

We hold that all individuals have the right to exercise sole dominion over their own lives, and have the right to live in whatever manner they choose, so long as they do not forcibly interfere with the equal right of others to live in whatever manner they choose.

Governments throughout history have regularly operated on the opposite principle, that the State has the right to dispose of the lives of individuals and the fruits of their labor. Even within the United States, all political parties other than our own grant to government the right to regulate the lives of individuals and seize the fruits of their labor without their consent.

Since governments, when instituted, must not violate individual rights, we oppose all interference by government in the areas of voluntary and contractual relations among individuals. People should not be forced to sacrifice their lives and property for the benefit of others. They should be left free by government to deal with one another as free traders; and the resultant economic system, the only one compatible with the protection of individual rights, is the free market.

Sounds pretty anti-government to me.

ROBOKiTTY wrote: Anarcho-capitalists ... privilege corporations and for-profit businesses over governments and unions for no particularly good reason.
So yes, libertarians are anti-government, but pro-business. Please make up your mind.

Now ideologically, anarchism is utopian and impractical given human failures and overpopulation, but in practice, anarchism is really about recognizing the power of governments, corporations, unions, and individuals alike...."
So, anarchy now means "anti-power"? Last I checked (17 seconds ago), it meant this:
merriam-webster wrote: a : absence of government
b : a state of lawlessness or political disorder due to the absence of governmental authority
c : a utopian society of individuals who enjoy complete freedom without government

You have to admit, the logic is impeccable ...

Things that cause Electrocution:
[ ] Dropping my hairdryer in the tub
[ ] Touching both car battery terminals at the same time
[ ] Sticking a piece of metal into a socket
[x] Electricity

Things that cause your House to Burn Down:
[ ] Falling asleep with a lit cigarette
[ ] Plugging nine devices into one extension cord
[ ] Cooking meth
[x] Flames

Things that get you Mauled by Bears:
[ ] Smothering yourself in honey
[ ] Throwing rocks at the cubs
[ ] Staring them down
[x] Bears

I recognize variants of some of those jokes from Emo Philips' routine, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to know who might have pinched from who, or if it's just a coincidence that people whose act is mostly wordplay might converge on some of the same bits.

3. Keep your arms in the vehicle at all times, especially when they are attached.

Spielberg and Lucas really began sticking it in everywhere, which gave it momentum. Now it seems every film has to work it in as a running joke.

I swear I heard it in Desolation Of Smaug.

Well, the video gave me a chubby. I don't know if it was the music, the rape-y rag doll physics or the severed limbs. All of which can make me fap myself into a frenzy.

It was the incorrect use of "there/their" which made it funny for me.

Sounds pretty anti-government to me.

So yes, libertarians are anti-government, but pro-business. Please make up your mind.
North American libertarians are just economic conservatives. Most of them are quite pro-military, for example. They're anti-government in rhetoric, but take away the government to the extent they ask for, and their worldview will crumble. Anarcho-capitalists are neither libertarians nor anarchists; I only mentioned them as they sounded exactly like what you meant by libertarian.
Matt Cavanaugh wrote:

So, anarchy now means "anti-power"? Last I checked (17 seconds ago), it meant this:
merriam-webster wrote: a : absence of government
b : a state of lawlessness or political disorder due to the absence of governmental authority
c : a utopian society of individuals who enjoy complete freedom without government
I thought I was pretty clear. Anarchism in its pure 'dictionary' form is a utopian ideology and is completely impractical beyond a local scale, at which level it is still difficult to maintain. There are no accepted party platforms and policies, and the only common ground among anarchists is that they are for maximal economic equality and individual liberty free from coercion and violence. That means recognizing the abuse of power to coerce and oppress wherever and whenever it occurs.

In anarchist thought, corporations, gangs, political parties, et al can take on the role of 'government' just as well in times of anomie (what anarchists call definition b.). Consider Somalia, early 20th-century China, and India under the East India Company.

A bit off topic, I found this pic on a site with a lot of covers like this ( here ).

Think PZ needs to add this to his collection?

You did. I did too.

It's one of entertainment's biggest inside gags. There's just no reason not to do it if you can. Most people won't even notice.

The libertarians I've known all believed they'd come out on top the world would be a better place with the smallest possible government. I've never heard the term "anarcho-capitalist" before.

I thought I was pretty clear. Anarchism in its pure 'dictionary' form is a utopian ideology and is completely impractical beyond a local scale, at which level it is still difficult to maintain.
The anarchists I encountered, during Occupy's brief moment of idiotic failure, believed anarchy could actually work in practice. Hence, Occupy's brief moment of idiotic failure.

It is not at all clear when you redefine terms on the fly, and introduce new terms without defining them. What I read is: libertarians aren't really libertarians, and anarchists aren't really anarchists.

the only common ground among anarchists is that they are for maximal economic equality and individual liberty free from coercion and violence. That means recognizing the abuse of power to coerce and oppress wherever and whenever it occurs.
Swap out "maximal economic equality" for "maximal economic opportunity" and you have a plank in the Libertarian Party platform.

I'm still at a loss as to what "non-theoretical" anarchists envision as an ideal system, or their action plan for getting there.
