And furthermore as regards Greta's shoe thing: if she does indeed wish to attract more marginalised people into the atheist/skeptic sphere, and given that marginalised people are less likely to have ecomonic privilege, would she still think it important that a speaker from a marginalised group make his or her presentation in expensive shoes? Or just her?
Methinks the lady is being a little disingenuous when she says she needs theose designer shoes for her work.

Then my boyfriend and his mother were killed in another car accident, again, when a driver was bending down to change radio stations.

Stephanie, Ophelia and Greta have a post about it (funnily enough, none of the male bloggers has one, could it be that shoes are a girl thing?)
and the OPs and posts are, if possible, even angrier than usual.
I'm going to save this comment for the next time someone talks about how the anti-FTB side insults and harasses women, and the FTB side are all respectful and female-supportive

If you will note, in more than one place the brain mapping is non-sequential. The feet and genitals are adjacent to each other. If there is some overlap, then the feet could become sexualized objects. Hence foot fetishism in men, and Stephanie, Ophelia and Greta getting massive amounts of sand up their cooches over the suggestion that they don't have a dire need for self-actualization through shoes.
Just more sexual obsession from the usual suspects.

If I roll with this cleft lip/palate charity thing, ideally I'd like to showcase the Slymepit. From what I've been told so far, Operation Smile is the better of two prominent charities online for cleft issues. I'm prepared to set up the page for this, do all the social media blasting, as well as any admin things. And it's *not* going to be limited to just atheists/skeptics. I'd like to involve anyone who feels like this is a good cause.
I suppose I just get sick of people like Greta and Ed having 1st world fucking issues and begging for money when there are people in this world who can't even afford surgery to take care of their own kids. It's a kick in the face - *ESPECIALLY* when one buys superfluous, ugly shoes.

Well, I wanted to ask Eucliwood how old she was, when her first posts were really grating me... for some reason I though she might still be in her late teens.LMU wrote: Same here. They appeared to me to just be over eager and not aware of how cranky we are here. They set off some flags but do seem to be adapting, so I see no reason to mock them now.
An important distinction between the Slymepit and other places (at least for me) is that people won't be banned or censored here. I'm glad that we didn't do that to oolon, and I would like us not to start with Eucliwood.
I actually would give a baboon or A+er the benefit of the doubt if they came here. If any read this, then I would encourage them to try.
Yeah, that sounds ageist (fuck that), but I remember how stupid I was myself at that kinda age. Still, she started adapting to the slyme pit, so I haven't ignored her, and I'm glad about that, I simply didn't foe colon, cause I was mostly reading the board on my phone back then.
So, for me, foeing only happened to the mabus incarnations, after all.
It might already have been answered on the upcoming pages, I haven't yet read (as I'm still way behind), but if not, @Eucliwood, I'm really curious how old you are.
I wonder, would Eucli be our first teen? The long-timers at least seem to be 30+, and some regulars a tad younger like 20/25+?
Don't mind me, ignore (but not exactly foe) me, if already answered, eventually I'll catch up, but my gal, who seems to escape immuno-suppressives for now, still took most of my attention. But she's kinda ok, for the time being. It seems to turn out better than we feared.
(All the best to Renee's guy, hope everything turns out fine, I know the docs need tests to actually determine the best course forward, but the waiting is fucking horrible.)

How bizarre. Peezee has apparently banned a commentator from Pharyngula for comments 'xe' didn't actually make at Pharyngula:
And sure enough, Ollie is right at the bottom of Peezee's dungeon list: http://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/dungeon/
I say this is bizarre, because I recall Pezeee saying a little while ago that his commentariat shouldn't give someone shit for what they said in another thread (can't find the link, alas). To me, this logically extends to another blog...but fuck, this is Peezee we're talking here, so maybe not so bizarre.

FWIW, Greta banned Oliver because Stephanie asked Greta to ban Oliver because of Oliver's calling Stephanie names over at Adam Lee's, Daylight Atheism. Stephanie says this is name calling (hint: and she's right), but Oliver is also correct too, that Ophelia Benson misinterpreted what was said. Reap called one person a bitch, not all women.Tigzy wrote:How bizarre. Peezee has apparently banned a commentator from Pharyngula for comments 'xe' didn't actually make at Pharyngula:

So Oliver was banned from all those blogs for these comments at Adam Lee's blog, not for anything he said at FtB, because what he said at FreeThoughtBlogs is almost always basically standard dissenting opinions, nothing inflammatory, libelous, bullying, or anything. Mainly Oliver was banned because they didn't know how to refute him, and they could ban him.
The story behind Oliver Crangle's nym is pretty ironic. Google it if you have the time. I would think A+ers would love an Oliver Crangle in their groups.

Re: Periodic Table of Swearing
I'm going to lose my mind here and defend the concept of privilege or xsplaining slightly, partially because objections such as these will probably get a justification like this from SJ folks:KarlVonMox wrote:This deserves re-posting. Accusations of "privilege" are and always have been a convenient silencing tactic, nothing more.
My understanding of privilege checking is that it is supposed to be used to stop people who have no life experience of a particular way of living telling people who do have to live that way what their lives are like. For example, at my university there were a whole bunch of disabled accessibility issues that the estates and management did not notice until a group of disabled students made a bunch of videos demonstrating that pressing the door-open button does not actually give them enough time to get through the "disabled access" door before it closes again. There are obviously times like this that you ought to listen to what people are telling you about their own lives.
On the other hand, this is frequently taken too far and used to apply beyond these reasonable situations. Usually that is when deference is requested not only on the facts (i.e. "No, I have had people offer me coffee in an elevator.") but also on the interpretation of those facts ("Guys, don't do that!").

What in the hell does that mean? When it's not committed by white males, how the hell is it relevant? If that person doesn't have some "white male privilege" outlook, how's it relevant? Ask them THAT.John Brown wrote:Well, just so you guys know, this isn't just an "atheist thing."
This was just posted on the Skeptical Libertarian's board on Facebook by the Admin:
"You guys are going to make me do it, and I hate you for it. Here it is: this idea that rights movements shouldn't be gender/race specific is an outlook of white male privilege."
And it's not an outlook of white male privilege. It's an outlook that occurs when "People of all races/all genders are having rights issues with X issue, so we aren't going to help ONE group and just ignore the other" Tell them THAT. What are you doing, John Brown? Get to it!

But you were right as that's where it started. People disparaging him because he made a light hearted comment. Then, when he started refuting the disparagers, is when he was banned. Again, he wasn't bullying, or being nasty to anyone, he's just a lot more clever in his responses than the baboon minions.Remick wrote:Yes, I wasn't actually serious...Outwest wrote:No, he got banned because he is much more clever than the whole lot of them and they can't believe there's anyone outside the Hivemind like that. Privilege is not supposed to be a guilt trip.AbsurdWalls wrote:I'm going to lose my mind here and defend the concept of privilege or xsplaining slightly, partially because objections such as these will probably get a justification like this from SJ folks:KarlVonMox wrote:This deserves re-posting.
Privilege is not supposed to be used to silence people, disparage people, or dismiss their claims.
Privilege is not supposed to be a partial ordering used to determine who is most oppressed by straight white males.
Privilege is better applied to aggregate groups, than it is to specific individuals, because far too many individuals have handicaps that grossly overwhelm their group privilege.
If Privilege is *always* turned into these things, if Privilege is always abused, maybe it's the concept itself that is to blame. Maybe it's bullshit to note privilege or to teach privilege and somehow claim that the concept is not about abusing other people.

Re: Periodic Table of Swearing
There's a guy in the UK (moral philosopher at Oxford or Cambridge) who gives most of his income to charity. He has a website here (http://www.givingwhatwecan.org/where-to-give) where he has ranked charities by their impact per donation:ReneeHendricks wrote:If I roll with this cleft lip/palate charity thing, ideally I'd like to showcase the Slymepit.
Deciding to give to charity is a commendable choice, but deciding which charity to give to is just as important and often more difficult. Some charities can be as much as 1000 times more effective than others, and since you want to do the most good possible with your money, deciding where to give can be a big decision.
Since beginning our research, we have devised a reliable methodology for assessing charities and their programs. We use a top-down method whereby we decide which interventions seem to be the most promising and work downwards from there to find the most cost-effective charities. Unlike other charity evaluators, our focus is not on the overhead costs of a charity; instead, we measure a charity’s program in terms of Quality-Adjusted Years of Life, or QALYs, per dollar.

I wasn't 100% sure that he was driving in his latest video still (I'm from the UK so that position always looks like "driven" rather than "driving" to me, especially when I don't see him doing any drivey things), but maybe we should make a point of trying to persuade Matt not to do this out of respect for his own health and that of other people. SO IT TRIGGERS ME WHEN THAT JACKOFF DILLAHUNT MAKES VIDEOS WHEN HE DRIVES!
In other news, my driver's license was suspended by fascist government assholes.

I should start pointing out I donated, don't give a fuck about getting the money back, but think Greta needs to learn something about PR, because her insistence that she's always right and everyone else is evil isn't working real well.ReneeHendricks wrote:This actually makes me laugh :D At no point have any of them pointed to where I've lied.

(And a note to Al, I was kidding about all of the above, with the punchline that I was the distracted driver that had caused these accidents.)

And PZ has banned olivervcrankle at Pharyngula over the comments xe left here [Greta's blog], just so xe can wallow in more self pity. So sad. Did xe donate to Greta’s cause?
And sure enough, Ollie is right at the bottom of Peezee's dungeon list: http://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/dungeon/
I say this is bizarre, because I recall Pezeee saying a little while ago that his commentariat shouldn't give someone shit for what they said in another thread (can't find the link, alas). To me, this logically extends to another blog...but fuck, this is Peezee we're talking here, so maybe not so bizarre.

And these are the same people, the same motherfuckers who mock "I'll keep you in my prayers" as being so useless. WORD TO THE STUPID - YOU'RE NO FUCKING BETTER.But here's what everyone needs to know, and what many of you can't accept:
"You" are nothing but the fruit.
Nobody cares about your dirt. "Who you are inside" is meaningless aside from what it produces for other people.
Inside, you have great compassion for poor people. Great. Does that result in you doing anything about it? Do you hear about some terrible tragedy in your community and say, "Oh, those poor children. Let them know that they are in my thoughts"? Because fuck you if so -- find out what they need and help provide it. A hundred million people watched that Kony video, virtually all of whom kept those poor African children "in their thoughts." What did the collective power of those good thoughts provide? Jack fucking shit. Children die every day because millions of us tell ourselves that caring is just as good as doing. It's an internal mechanism controlled by the lazy part of your brain to keep you from actually doing work.
