I still feel cold from shock.
But I am going to focus on this: he died in his house, while in (semi) acceptable health and knowing he was part of a community. His terms. His decision. That we all could be so lucky.
That said, he was dealt a shitty hand and I wish he could have found a professional niche somewhere. 59 is no where near time enough.

I figure if the interview starts to go bad I will claim I am woman and if they don't give me a job immediately I will sue them for being transphobic. I am sure this strategy will work :twatson:

At a time when WWE was doing pure trash Woman showned it was possible to be sexy without being a trashy and also was a great performer.

Re: The Refuge of the Toads
Man, it's times like these where I wish I could just shower the people I care about with riches so they wouldn't have to worry about where to live, and when to eat and drink. That they know they'll always be safe, in that regard at least.
Recently I've wasted so much money on shit that don't even matter anymore. Just totally meaningless. God. I'm such an asshole.
I'm sorry, John. You'll be remembered. I won't forget.
On that note. I'm sorry to hear about your mum too, Clarence. Stay safe.
This year, man. This year. What a pisser.

Re: The Refuge of the Toads
Just fuck it all.
Gutted, simply gutted.
Greg/John was one of the stalwarts of the Pit, and it's a slightly less slimy and patriarchal hellhole without him.
Incidentally, he had friends beyond the Pit - the Red-Shirted One emailed me today to ask if I knew anything about Greg, since he (the RSO) had some work for him.
I really haz a sad now.
Clarence - take care.

So if John had stuck around a little longer - or the offer of work had arrived sooner - then there might have been a way to get out of those troubles.Lsuoma wrote: Incidentally, he had friends beyond the Pit - the Red-Shirted One emailed me today to ask if I knew anything about Greg, since he (the RSO) had some work for him.

Re: The Refuge of the Toads
I wasn't around for the pyt's formative years, so I didn't know John as well the longertimers. My cat with the balls got hit by a car not long after that pic, and I went to the local shelter the next day and got a similar looking 1-or-2 year old male who had kept his testicles until later in life so he has that bigger head and chest dimorphism thing going on that cats socially construct, ha ha. The sensitive granddaughter-ish girl of mine need never know this isn't the same cat. I have lots of extremely cute video of this cat playing with local dog. A lot of time goes into interacting with friends, so that you know what to expect of each other, and it becomes comfortable, and it feeds on itself, and there is an empty space were fun good humor and thought used to be. Fare well, John.

Terribly sad to hear about John. I did not know him well, but still it feels sad a great guy has passed away, suffering due to things not in his hands. Sad that we as humans drive other humans to despair and death over mere and unimportant things like money. RIP.

Mourning is the curse of the living. The man went out, as we know he lived from his participation here. Own his own terms. People of intellectual honesty are a rare breed, and we're poorer for his parting.

Now , it's struck me as well.
I lost my grandmother this January.
I didn't say anything about it here that I recall because I hardly ever bring my real life to social media (except for my opinions).
Plus, she was 93 and had been slowly dying since her accident and operation over the previous months. So it wasn't unexpected. She had a long life.
Now my mom has died. At 72, when most of the women on her side of the family at least hit 80. With no warning, no obvious physical health issues. The only consolation is that it seems to have happened in her bed, while she was sleeping.
So now I'm dealing with arranging a funeral for the first time in my life.
And while not as important to me as family, Prince and David Bowie died this year as probably 99 percent of you know. I know some people here have been struggling with lack of a job or personal illness and while I haven't said anything to ALL of you , I have read about and sympathized with each and every one.
2016 is turning out to be a really shitty year :(

Re: The Refuge of the Toads
I went to a funeral of a friend who hung himself some months back. I was drinking with a friend & having the sort of odd, unfiltered conversation that I tended to have with him. We agreed to call one another & at least give the other a fair chance to talk us out of it if it ever came to that.
John pretty much did that for us on his own. I don't want to affirm this in any way, but I have to say that I wouldn't have handled it with half the class he did, & from what little I have to go on I get the feeling that he was thinking more clearly than I usually do. Not sure what to say, but I felt like I had to say something. Gonna go find some cat videos & try not to think too much. We lost a good one.

Re: The Refuge of the Toads
I don't want to think about that. All I can think about is the utter lack of regard those in the US or Canada have for suicidal people...who happen to be men. Just this week, I saw a discussion amongst some people who mourned suicide as an issue primarily for women. You know, male tears...ignore the stats...all of that stuff.comhcinc wrote:Za-zen wrote:

Re: The Refuge of the Toads
Sorry to add to the downer vibe today, but my own piece of bad news for 2016 is that I had a moderate stroke in the first week of March. The good news is that now, about eight weeks later, I've made something approaching a full recovery. My main issue at this point is that concentration requires more effort, and if I do it for more than 5-6 hours at a time, I get very tired.

I am sorry, but I am glad you are getting better. If you'll permit a mild joke, being able to concentrate for 5-6 hours at a time puts you 4.9-5.9 hours ahead of the average attention span of anyone under the age of 25.jugheadnaut wrote:Sorry to add to the downer vibe today, but my own piece of bad news for 2016 is that I had a moderate stroke in the first week of March. Re: The Refuge of the Toads
Yes, if I had just decided I was feeling like shit and gone to sleep that night (Mar. 5) most likely I never would have woken up. Luckily, I was at my girlfriend's place, and when she returned from an event it awoke me from a nap, and when I tried to ask her if she had a good time, I realized I couldn't speak properly. I asked her how my face looked and she said it was drooping on one side and I immediately realized I was having a stroke and told her we had to get to the hospital immediately. Canadian hospitals are really on the ball when it comes to strokes, and I had a CAT scan within 20 minutes of arrival, and they found my right carotid artery was almost totally blocked and a large clot had come off it and caused an ischemic stroke. Alarmingly, they saw several other clots in the area. Although it was a weekend, within 4 hours I had a surgical procedure called an endarterectomy which opens up the neck and carotid artery and removes the plaque.comhcinc wrote:You assholes are making me afraid to go to sleep.
One piece of medical advice for people: if you're getting very short periods of numbness on one side of your body (in my case, it was my forehead for a few weeks before the stroke), don't shrug it off. You should seek medical attention as it may be something called a transient ischemic attack, which, while not dangerous in itself is a reliable predictor of an imminent stroke.
