I have no idea why a public U like U Missouri hires a professional staff director for greek life.

Just fuck the taxpayers over and over again. Not just Missouri taxpayers but all US taxpayers subsidizing and guaranteeing student loans.

At any rate, fwiw, it's reported the academic in communications made $57K a year, while the party director make $67K

> Basler earns $67,812 a year as the assistant director in the Student Life office.
> Click, who has been an assistant professor at Mizzou since 2008, is paid $57,798 a year.

I think someone found that out once via public records, so the information is available. You can either dumpster dive these threads like mad with key word searches, hope someone remembers, or go search the state public records yourself. I don't really recall myself outside of being happy he makes less than me.

To clarify, she has resigned her essentially meaningless affiliation with the School of Journalism. Her home department is Communication (within the College of Art and Science),
Correct.

There will undoubtedly be some uncomfortable conversations within the department. They've released a statement that's pro-1st-amendment, says "Intimidation is never acceptable", and says they can't comment on personnel matters: or for those on tapatalk: https://twitter.com/MizzouComm/status/6 ... 4342153216

Yes, decent apology.

to clarify, when you say you think "they should still fire her if they can", did 'they' refer to the Journalism Dept or the Communications Dept?
Guestus Aurelius wrote:The other Mizzou employee in the video (Greek Life and Leadership Assistant Director) hasn't commented yet, but the school's National Pan-Hellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, and Panhellenic Association issued the following (rather weak, IMO) joint statement:

"Disappointed"? "Her actions at that time"?
There are reports that she (and maybe Click too) have been receiving threats (or at least very harassing communications). That's a shame.

There was another faculty member in the video, a 3rd employee of the university, who hasn't been discussed nearly as much in the media reports. He's the man in glasses who stands behind a row or two of students and joins in telling Tai he has to leave. I saw comments from 2 students identifying him as a religion prof (and maybe the chair of the religion dept). Not turning it up on really quick search right now, but I think the student who took the video of Tai was one of them, or at least it's on his twitter feed or in the comments to his video(s) at youtube. (Can't recall, visited a number of pages, it all blurs.)

Interesting short article
Fascism at Yale
http://hlrecord.org/2015/11/fascism-at-yale/

Personally, looking at the situation, there are all of these mandatory programs for pushing feminist ideologies and language on incoming freshmen (sexual harassment, racism, sexism), but none of the value of free speech. Naturally these college are reaping the end result for pushing these ideologies.

OK, I'll bite. I'd like to understand the basics of flare stars. I'm curious because one of my former classmates has written a bunch of papers about them, but when I try and read them it's clear I'm lacking a ton of context that casual sources like Wikipedia aren't able to provide.

This is completely off topic of course, but what the hell.

What's striking about this is the dissonance between the measured, 'professional' voice she uses for the apology - when she knows she's writing for an audience in the way she's been trained to - and the tone she uses when she believes she has the power and wants to use it to intimidate.

It's sinister that she can switch between the two so effortlessly.

Elyse has been in the hospital for a few days but I thought it lacked any dimension worthy of mention.
It was slightly funny when her commenters responded to her chest pain complaint with cliched armchair "acid reflux" diagnoses...
pissing-off Elyse, because she doesn't have a stomach. Elyse's self diagnosis is She's hinting that it might be fatal heart disease and/or cancer.

One of her male sycophants got turned-on by her describing washing her crotch with a bedpan hose, they started talking dirty, he posted a selfie offering "hugs", she replied "No. That's close enough." He took her no-means-no seriously, so she had a little tantrum & announced that her "no" was "passive-aggressive" flirtation, not a real 'no'. Fuck these idiots.

Elyse's crew reports that they don't feel veganism is an intersectional feminist issue, just because some exploited animals are female. I think they're garbling the 'sexual politics of meat' argument-- which is that patriarchal colonial sadistic domination of food animals normalizes cruelty/ which then makes it easy to treat women poorly also. Nazi SS officers practiced killing dogs, to prepare themselves to kill humans, etc.

Elyse announces she is opposed to the polyamory practice of having "veto power" and "primary, secondary", tertiary partners (as espoused by Dr. Richard Carrier, PhD.), because it is "monogamy of commitment", and unfair to give less to some partners than others. But she also says it's "gross" to say the primary partners are "privileged"

All these tidbits are beneath my threshold of give a fuck/ but together they add up to an odd little snapshot of sjw drivel.

Stanford prison experiment in the small? As Pascal put it (Pensees, 1670), "Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction." And I find it amusing that one of the newer definitions for "religion" is "A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion" - which certainly covers much of the behaviour of many SJWs, and devotees of Atheism Plus.

Comsider this thought experiment... You have two Kerr black holes locked in tight orbits. They both have accretion discs, and both have been actively producing relativistic jets with significant outgassing. Could they, at the right angle, ever resemble a giant dong? Perhaps with the accretion disks serving as a disproprtionately small nutsac?

British anti-feminists should be dancing in the aisles that this is the woman being held up across the media as one of the best and brightest new voices in feminism. The white knights lining up to defend her honour on Twitter obviously disagree, but I think every prominent feminist like her makes "feminism: another word for equality" a slightly harder sell.
Proudman wants to change rape laws so that they define force in a way that includes "inequalities of power". According to her feminist theory women have less power than men. Therefore according to Proudman's definition all sex between men and women is rape.

But it doesn't end there. According to her theory whites hold more power than non-whites. So all interracial sex between whites and non-whites is rape.

Trans people hold less power than cis people. All sex between trans people and cis people is rape.

Basically all sex between two persons is rape unless they have the exact same amount of social (and presumably cultural, political and economical) power. Because even a slight differential of power is force, and even if it's a small amount of force it still leads to rape (and rape-grading is disgusting). But there are no people in the world who have the exact same amount of power. Therefore all sex is rape.

The article leaves out a possible reason why those students claim to be suffering breakdowns and skipping class: they're faking emotional pain to get out of assignments and still get easy As.

The SJWs are faking emotional pain for ideological reasons and some of them are actually so broken that an email about Halloween costumes causes them to have an emotional breakdown. Other students, however, might simply be trying to game the system.

If some professors are known to excuse people who don't attend to lectures or turn in assignments in time because of "emotional pain", many students will claim to be seriously affected by a tremendous amount of pain just to skip classes and write assignments at their leisure.

There's never a shortage of lazy students who see university as a way to get high with their friends and have fun at parties. These students might be tempted to use SJW politics to get more time to smoke joints and get drunk.

Greta has a post up explaining you can't drawn conclusions from a person's SM likes, friends etc. People use SM in different ways.

She is careful to explain that what someone writes is another matter - this is the "fuck off Benson" card.

Benson shows up with her maniacal cackle, Carrier tells her to grow up or he'll jet in her face. Again.

Greta bans Benson with an officious backhand.

Good times.

There's little doubt that the core of the problem is 'helicopter parenting'. Children are not given the opportunity to learn how to work together and hold their own with their peers free of adult control. They are brought up to need coddling IOW and I can't blame them for it because it is the only way they know how to be. They haven't had the freedom to develop naturally the way previous generations have.. If there is an element of gaming the system though, that in itself is disturbing. I can't imagine anyone from my generation showing such little self-respect as to even pretend to be so weak-willed.

Ah yes the Treaty of Butterflies:
Disagreement is inevitable, but bullying and harassment are not. If we want secularism and atheism to gain respect, we have to be able to disagree with each other without trying to destroy each other.
How'd that respectful debate about "is a trans-woman" a woman go?

And as AlexG said:
There is no single atheist as influential as Dawkins; there may never be again, and likely this is a good thing. There’s certainly no feminist atheist as influential as he is, but his feminist critics are many and hold great collective influence. In the atheist sex wars, these are the sides – and the Dawkins-Benson pact means both sides will shun atheism’s worst elements.

That means the Slymepit, who exist entirely to harass and bully feminists among us.

That means the ‘Amazing’ Atheist, who has repeatedly threatened them with rape and violence.

That means Justin Vacula, who published the home address of Amy Davis Roth.

It means everyone who mounts cyberattacks against websites like this, including DDOS attacks and leaking private emails.

It means everyone who hounded Melody Hensley till she had PTSD, and everyone whose whole online existence is about harassing feminists in atheism.

When Richard Dawkins and Ophelia Benson – people almost never on the same side of the fence – agreed that this was unacceptable, they defined a new community standard. If any of the above is you, you don’t meet it, and however loudly or venomously you respond, this the start of your being squeezed out of our movement.

Have fun, to quote Jen McCreight, as you circle jerk into oblivion.

Going, going. Soon enough you’ll be gone.
"You'll soon be gone".

The School’s Assistant Director of Greek Life Was Also Seen in the Video Blocking Journalists

Janna Basler, who has also not commented on the video, is seen telling Tai, “You need to back off.” She also appears to shove Tai, and puts her hand in front of his face.

An interesting thing about the video is that the two people trying to get journalists out of the way were staff. And there's another guy at the back of the crowd with Basler that was pushing Tai backwards who is chairman of the religious studies department. For a student protest, there seems to be a lot of faculty getting stuck in and, in this case, doing a lot of the organising and being very keen that one particular person resigns. Or maybe it's not that odd when you look at the grievances built up under Wolfe:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/mor ... seriously/

Even in the celebratory piece in the Graun, some of these issues over employment benefits get a mention (http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015 ... ssouri-won)

I can see why some people might not want press poking around asking more detailed questions about the motivations for the protest. Whipping up a bit of the old racism to get rid of slash-and-burn-tech-industry guy? Surely not.

What a difference a little bit of framing makes. There's a funny piece from the Graun yesterday where Zach "Pleeeezzzee let me be an ally" Stafford tries trolling Tinder to make some half-assed point about the site's supposed trans discrimination: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfre ... wo-genders

Apparently, Zach doesn't think transwomen...um, sorry, that's trans women...are actually women. I don't think anyone has done the Pod People Point at him screaming "transphobe" yet though.

There never was a Peez farewell to Benson. Or any formal farewell for that matter.

Still.

There's nothing like a bit of transplaining.

I can see the point that radical feminists make that the whole trans-activism thing is about men taking over the space they thought was theirs.

Still.

"Greta bans Benson" rolls on the tongue like black label scotch. A lovely wistful reminder of the Summer of Love which is now receding into nostalgic memory.
Peez was too busy being a lilly livered twat. I doubt he gave her much support up her back channel either.

Um no. The hardest part of being a woman is being marginalized by all of society. The hardest part of being a woman is trying to be both strong and nurturing at the same time. The hardest part of being a woman is loving your body and conversely feeling horrible about your looks because something always seems less than ideal. The hardest part of being a woman is growing a child inside your body and then watching a part of yourself walk around outside of your body on a regular basis. The hardest part of being a woman is trying to reach your true potential while constantly being looked down on by outside sources. The hardest part of being a woman is finding a partner who finds value in who you are rather than what you can do for them. But sure trivialize what it means to a woman by telling us its all just makeup and clothes and developing confidence. No disrespect to the trans community but please tell me how Caitlyn can truly believe she's figured out what it's like to truly live like a woman when she had the luxury of living as a man for 60 years. I found this extremely demeaning and felt that it grossly oversimplified what women go through everyday.
Woman are "marginalized by all of society"? All of it? Including the half of society that consists of Women?

And how can more than one thing be the hardest part of being a woman?

How do these morons manage to operate a computer?

Your view of human nature is too generous. Like I said before, the most striking thing about that video of the girl shouting at the master at Yale is, when he tries to defend himself, she screams "BE QUIET!" This is not someone who feels helpless in the face of the slightest adversity. This is someone who expects to be OBEYED.

The histrionics are simply emotional blackmail, using their willingness to cause a scene and others' desire to avoid one as leverage. They frame it in terms of pain and emotional distress because they know they're dealing with compassionate people who care about the feelings of others. It is calculated and deliberate, and it's all about power. People like that may feign patheticness, but they are not pathetic, they are dangerous.

Can I do a bit of shilling here?

Remember in the summer I was part of a rehearsed reading of an original musical? Well, it's in preparation for full-scale performances in various venues in Northern Ireland in the new year. It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to be in it - they need someone who can do choreography and rehearse during the day. But Nick Boyle, the writer/composer/director, is running a Kickstarter to fund it and the poster I designed is part of the incentives. Plus, it's a great show with fantastic songs and performers and it deserves to do well.

Video with extracts from the preview performance at the link.

Here's an interview with Nick for local TV station NVTV:

http://www.nvtv.co.uk/shows/talk-like-t ... las-boyle/

(Skip forward to about 13.00 for an acoustic performance of one of the songs, and another one at 23.00)

There's no 'right side' on this. The radfems come across as genuinely hateful while the transwomen play to the worst brainless bimbo or shrieking harpy stereotype.

Light it up. Smoke'm up. Drink'm up. Have a nice little party camping in the quad.

That would certainly explain the 'No Media' rules they are trying to enforce.

Greta bans Benson with an officious backhand.

Possible. But it could also be that some do it because it's hip to play emotional wreck. You can belong to a cosy group of like-minded people who hold marshmallow throwing parties.

It's entitlement, pure and simple.

There's a reason why it converges so strongly on these campuses. Many of these kids are brought up, both by their parents and society itself, to believe that they have, and are going to have a golden ticket for life. That everything should basically come out in their favor, and be exactly what makes them personally comfortable. This isn't really their fault. They're taught to believe that the world should revolve around them and their wishes.

One of the things I'm a big advocate for is the notion that one of the most critical things in the world is setting appropriate expectations. People get upset when those expectations they have are not met. That's what is going on here, at least in the Yale case. (I haven't looked too deep in the MIzzou case, but it looks like there's a fuck ton of entitlement there as well)

I think we are addressing 2 different issues here. The fragility of today's young is a definite problem and something that is taken advantage of by the manipulators. It's the environment of hypersensitivity that allows "BE QUIET" girl to get away with it. The feminist culture of victimhood and the establishment of the male oppressor narrative has been deliberately created over decades. It is the time honoured way of setting up a target group for discrimination. As long as they can maintain the illusion of oppression they feel justified in 'punching up'. This is how the Nazis were able to see themselves as oppressed by the Jews while using their absolute power over them to exterminate them. At this point it is hard to know if the present feminist leadership is consciously acting primarily to maintain power and keep the funds rolling in or if they are primarily driven by ideology.

That is one of the consequences of not allowing children to interact without adult control. They learn to solve problems collectively and individually and learn respect for one another.
