Ophelia recently posted on my Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/justinvacula/po ... re_comment) following the livestream/live podcast episode (http://www.justinvacula.com/2012/07/wom ... ssion.html) I had in which I -- with special guest Karla Porter in-studio -- discussed -- among other things -- sexual harassment, specific comments from bloggers/speakers/whatever (Watson, Zvan, Surly Amy, Benson, 'Lousy Canuck,' and more), and harassment policies.

Very dishonest. You read a tiny fraction of one of the emails I got and then said "does that sound like a threat to you?" Well of course that one fraction doesn't! But the whole exchange is a different thing, *especially the last two paragraphs*. You're disgraceful.

Second:
Bullshit. It's dishonest to read a tiny fraction that is obviously not threatening or doubtful by itself and then say "Does that sound like a threat to you?" DISHONEST. Bad practice. Unethical.

Third:
Not too careful with the truth, you two, are you.

Fourth: (in response to me saying that we're not going to spend 20 minutes of the show on her letter)
If you don't have time to talk about it honestly THEN DON'T TALK ABOUT IT. Jeezis. You don't get a pass to distort things because of time constraints. You don't get to lie about me because you're in a hurry.

Fifth: (in response to my invitation for her to come on a future show to have a discussion with me and Karla.
Don't be ridiculous. You're a hack pursuing a vendetta; I'm not going near your poxy "show."

And you two misrepresented me. End of story? Sure. You're dishonest hacks. End of story.

Again, you're being ridiculous. I told you: you misrepresented what was in those emails. That is dishonest. It's very simple.

"Dishonest" appear to be Ophelia's go-to word for everything these days. But was it dishonest for her to claim that people at ERV were wishing here bodily harm, how we talked about nothing else besides that 24/7? Was it dishonest how when she first made references to this faux email threat, she did nothing to dissuade the false rumor that people at ERV were in any way responsible for it, even though she had no evidence for this? Is it dishonest for her to still want to maintain that the threat was viable even after she spoke to the fan (her fan) who sent it to her and determined it was no threat at all?

Like John Greg says, it's best to just let her dig herself deeper into the the absurd reality she has created for herself.

Ophelia was one of those who were outraged by DJ Grothes suggestion that it might just be the over emphasis of talks of threats rather than any genuine threats that may lie behind the fact that women were not registering for this years TAM.
She completely (or deliberately) misses the point that she herself provided the best example for this by freaking out and stating that she wasn't going because of a threat - all the while the "threat" in question was one of her fans taken in by her own hyperbole. How can anyone have read those emails as threats? My reaction on seeing the actual text of the "threat" emails was initially to burst out laughing and then to realise that Ophelia must have flipped.
It is sad to see what has happened to her.

:popcorn: I only heard about this place because i read about it in a post by PZ on FtB? NO i don't visit their very own SlymePit but i was re-directed to it by a tweet about the "Repudiation" post, whining about how Ron Lindsay isn't going after people who've done nothing wrong (Except of course by disagreeing with FtB). We in the UK have been known to accuse you lot (US) for not getting Irony, well i think credit where it's due. PZ certainly provides it in bucketloads. ps. Before all this stuff even started there was something about the Guy(PZ) that felt "Wrong" & although i did enjoy SOME of his talks on YT, it was always obvious to me that IRL we wouldn't be drinkin' buddies, but then again i have a Penis, :lol: .☮
