Isn't this cyberstalking according to Steffy's own rules? Bad Steffs.
Re: Stefunny has paid a visit
Y'see, I'm so tempted to go over there and tell them that, no, there won't be censorship or thread-hiding. But it won't achieve anything. Anything at all.

Re: Stefunny has paid a visit
Using Stefunny's own definition of cyberstalking, she has proved her cyberstalking skills to be in tip-top shape.
It is also clear from her post, and the comments attached to it, that even if we changed our language to be something akin to Dick and Jane books (See Spot run. See Spot catch the ball, etc., etc.), they would find something sexist, misogynistic, rapeist, MRA about it.
Seriously, as has been stated before, even though I very much like the idea of cleaning up our language and invective, there is just no way that these folks can get around their cognitive dissonance and willful misinterpretations of anything and everything we say.
Mind you, that being said, the moment I saw those song lyrics following mine in Take it Outside (http://www.slymepit.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11), I knew without a doubt that that would probably be one of the first places they would pounce. I should have posted a note toi Stefunny to that regard. Ah well: hindsight.
Though, of course, as is typical, Stefunny will post a clipped screeny, and an misrepresentative description, and then place her definitive, inarguable interpretation of content. And her minins lap it up. Good little doggiewoggies.

I've noticed quite a bit of the following behavior from the FC5:bhoytony wrote:Isn't this cyberstalking according to Steffy's own rules? Bad Steffs.
1) Imagining immoral/unethical/creepy behavior from others.
2) Using #1 to justify their own actual real immoral/unethical/creepy behavior.

Re: Stefunny has paid a visit
Nanny State has made a post on this, and has links to Cracked.com and raw story (I think). I find this amazing. After listening to the daughter of the song writer (and hearing a recording of her mother and father performing the song) on the FFRFs podcast (I can find it if people ask, but it's been a few months) - I am flabbergasted. Floored, even. WTF? I guess I couldn't tell from the movie that a rape happened. I did read the wikipedia saying that the protestations ("I must go", etc) are really sinister, and the guy (or "wolf") is forcing himself on the woman (the "mouse"). Some people just cannot see the world without looking through their particular foggy lens.
How...sad. And pathetic. They really are like creationists.
Re: Stefunny has paid a visit
I agree with Lsuoma, arguing with them over at FtB won't achieve anything (as has been repeatedly shown over the last year). Trying to correct whatever misrepresentations the FC5 have/will come up with against us, is best addressed here, then going over to FtB and risk having our words either deleted or (worse) changed beyond recognition. If they want to discuss something, they're welcome to come here and make their points free of censorship (correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure they can even register as members if they wanted to). Tactically, I'd like to see this site overtake FtB as the spot for freethought and discourse online (pretty low bar, I know), so there is no reason to go their turf when ours offers a much fairer (yes, even for them) debating ground. But that's just my two cents.

In short, it is "your" problem, not ours, and because so many of us are amused, not offended at the self parody, it has been adopted.
I did not get the impression that Justicar was being anything other than himself when he pointed it out. But you would be well advised to ask him yourself rather than take my word for it.
In any event, when the people who do this sort of thing, belong to the same camp that proclaims themselves arbiters of "decent human beings", quite frankly it reduces me to girlish giggling and /facepalm IRL, because they have previously demonstrated that they are not qualified for the position.
Furthermore, the phrase in itself because of the way it has been used, is currently devoid of meaning except as means of status signalling, and is treated as such.
In the end, there will be some changes. I believe for instance that people will stop mocking OB over her ladyparts because there are some signs that she has jumped the tracks over it. Speaking for myself, I do not believe in torture and I have asked that we stop. I could be wrong, but I believe most have bought into the idea for one reason or another, not to continue mocking her in this manner.
What will not change however, is when people like RahXephon come over to argue in good faith, he will not be subjected to the type of abuse the FftB routinely dish out. The intellectual mouth breathers among you will have to take their chances however. While I take no pleasure in beating up cripples myself, and thus generally refrain from doing so, I can not speak for others.
But that is my opinion. Fell free to trot on over to http://www.slymepit.com/phpbb/index.php and ask them yourselves.
YMMV
I agree it says a lot. However, what you apparently missed was that was that while it was recognized as some intended it to be a derogatory reference to Abbie Smith’s vagina, the other side did not care, hence no outrage, just amusement at the inherent sexism and a lack of introspection that would have prevented yet another example of ironic hypocrisy.Kels says:

So…this is the same “slimepit†that Justicar was earlier claiming to be a derogatory reference to Abbie Smith’s vagina? Funny a group “cleaning up their act†like this wouldn’t want to remove such a gendered slur from their very masthead.

Another example of status signalling, rendering not only the word itself, but whatever else the person had to say empty and devoid of any other meaning, other than troop social activities such as grooming.KellyM says: July 4, 2012 at 3:40 pm

Re: Stefunny has paid a visit
So, according to Stefunny, quoting the lyrics to "Baby, It's Cold Outside" is proof that one is EVIL, but the fact that PZ's blog has a thing about making rape jokes about anyone they don't like is perfectly okay. After all, jokes about rape are perfectly good fun, but quoting the lyrics to a classic Christmas song -- unforgiveable!
And, on that thread, Kels shows a remarkable lack of awareness, writing

"Gendered slurs" are a FfTB thing. They are the ones that claim that using a "gendered slur" is an grave, unforgiveable insult against everyone on the planet of that gender. They are the ones claiming that a woman insulting another woman using such a term must therefore be a "gender traitor". (Except, of course, if the person using such a slur is one of them, in which case it is not only perfectly okay to use such language, but anyone who complains about it must be a troll and instantly gets banned.) Kels seems entirely unaware that this isn't a universally held belief!Funny a group “cleaning up their act†like this wouldn’t want to remove such a gendered slur from their very masthead.

These people whining about "gendered slurs" are the same fuckers behind the "don't be a dick" campaign, right?
I think I've just bolloxed up another irony meter.

Oh yes, wasn't OGL the guy who [also] equated BDSM with rape and wouldn't walk on the same side of the street as a strange woman?
Re: Stefunny has paid a visit
During the tweet campaign after TF got booted, Neal (sp?) of the Little Atoms podcast (never listened to it, I doubt I'll start now) tweeting in support of Watson, including the dreaded "twat". I didn't go looking, but somehow I doubt anyone on that side said anything to that misogynistic rape-apologist. Especially little Becky.Git wrote:These people whining about "gendered slurs" are the same fuckers behind the "don't be a dick" campaign, right?

Anyone with even an iota of knowledge about the scene would know that in BDSM the power equation is so completely in favour of the sub in ways beyond pretty much any other aspect of human behaviour.CommanderTuvok wrote:That's him! Oh yes, I now remember two of the reasons I stopped posting on cockweasles' site: the baboons are generally extremely sex-negative (BDSM freaks them out), and the ludicrous Islam-apologetics of many commentators such as the even-more-ludicrous Walton.

I am really, really pissed off about Stefunny's rape insinuations ( and the general fucking acceptance of such blatant urban myth horseshit from her supporters), so I posted this: http://www.slymepit.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=53

Nail. On the head. You just hit.
The thing they never seem to realise is that the key thing in BDSM is trust; in fact, I'd argue you might well need a lot more than in yer average relationship.

If hypocrisy was an Olympic sport she's is a not only certainty for the gold, she'd be the one holding the flag at the opening ceremony.
Complain about "gendered slurs" while using them herself? Check!
Write about the dangers of cyberstalking, all the while desperately cyberstalking others? Check!
Highlighting the dangers of ignoring harrassment - while ignoring the fact that GBL is harrassing others - including making threats of violence?
Check!
This last one should be emphasized. She is supporting a nasty vindictive cyberstalking bully who thinks nothing of making threats of violence against people who have opinions not completely in tune with his.
It's not even a question of her silence on his abuse. It is the fact that she is actively publicly supporting him by appearing with him on several panels at the Skepchickcon convention including, believe it or not, a panel on harrassment!!
Has she no shame?
In the old days before FTB Steff used to appear on Gregs Scienceblog as a commenter of such vacuous stupidity and unstinting praise for everything Greg wrote, no matter how inane, that for a long time I presumed she was an invented character. I thought she was just a sockpuppet of Greg - but one who was meant to be spotted - just to keep us on our toes.
I was genuinely shocked that she turned out to be not only a real person, but was actually serious in what she wrote.

EDIT TO ADD, since there's no point adding a new post when no-one's replied after me:
On topic, it baffles me why anyone would go looking for things to be offended by.
Re: Stefunny has paid a visit
I used to have a folder of cartoons I culled from Punch and P Eye in the seventies and eighties that went astray sometime, and there were some crackers. One of my very favourites of all though was a simple picture of two Puritans, and one was saying "It's a lovely day. Let's go and stop someone having fun."On topic, it baffles me why anyone would go looking for things to be offended by.
That really says it all, I think: while I wouldn't characterize the Baboollies (or, more narrowly, the FC5) as Puritans, their narrow thought mentality that everyone must conform to their ideas of what's wrong and right, and that people who don't are a menace to be sorted out is very much of the same kidney.

It's really weird, but one of the overriding thoughts that keeps popping into my head every time I see something about the FC5 is the words "Mary Whitehouse".

I wrote this elsewhere, but it belongs here too:
I would have like to have seen Abbie write a closing post to close the pit. Might have went some way to negating the easily predicted "I CLOSed DE sLIme" from the delusional balloons with grandiose self importance complexes.
I'm coming to the conclusion that insanyvan really does think her writing, opinions, views, has real world influence and consequence. Kind of like the guy who always wanted to be a football star, but either never had the talent, or didnt put the work in, writing to a team coach to tell him where exactly he's going wrong, and what he needs to do.
