BTW, I have come to believe that Duck Dynasty is fake, and that the whole thing is a manufactured controversy.

There are photos of what the Duck Dynasty men looked like before the show - yuppies - and they all have advanced educations which would call into question the validity of their 'ignorant redneck' personas. Furthermore, from what I have been able to read, the show is heavily scripted, just like most of the top reality shows out there...

Dyatlov Pass Keeps its Secret

Finished the book, very good and detailed. Only weird bit was a lengthy discourse into the theory - which was then dismissed - of an insert by American special forces. I'd second Mykeru in recommending it for Xmas break reading. At $3.50 for a Kindle version, risk free investment.

I have to collate my markups. But immediate things I will be looking back at are:

Did the three who died on the slope make it to the fire (clothing + evidence of burning). This is pretty central to the narrative structure.

The conflicting medical views. It seems the original view was that the 4 people with major injuries would not be able to move with ease - and some would have been dead in less than 10 mins. Ie no time to get to the hide, as it took full bodied people longer in tests. Then another view was found that contradicted all this - ie head injuries and up-to 8 broken ribs were not a major impediment. Then a third modern review seemed to support the original conclusions ... grrr.

Review the tent evidence. I was disappointed this wasn't done more categorically. But from my initial reading I wasn't convinced there was physical evidence the structure had been hit with a force equivalent to a car at 60 km/h: no external initiated damage to fabric, inside contents apparently not a complete mess, no sign of ice or slab material surrounding the tent, tent still firmly anchored and at least one pole in place. In fact the book actively presents far more evidence against a slab attack then for - and this is not negated or addressed prior to them returning to their conclusion.

In short the tent's condition and remaining physical evidence is inconsistent with a decision to abandon footwear/supplies amidst what appears to have been a non panicked ordered retreat .....

The ice slab theory in the book is the most logical and requires the least amount of introduced assumptions. But the actual evidence simply isn't there. From first reading.

I've noticed since Setar flounced due to his inherent racism posts sometimes come across as a bit more reasonable. I wouldn't be surprised if Setar turned out to be a troll as him and a few others guaranteed A+ would fail almost from day one and also made sure Carriers speech would come over as ignorant and hilariously bad.

The blogger refers to this person as having a "not a size two body." Yeah, and the ocean is not very dry. I understand that some people went too far insulting this lady, but I don't see what this picture has to do with the bra. Or what any of this rant has to do with the bra. Is her argument that Americans spend too much time exercising and trying to be thin? That's not what stats on obesity show.

A fat man is not a worthless man. A guy with a beer gut can still get promoted, get laid, and largely be left in peace.

Woman tells men what life is like as a man. Does she think fat men have an easier time getting laid than fat women? :lol:

This is a real thing. In our culture, fat men are regularly given a free pass. But fat women? They’re told that they should die. If that’s not a patriarchal lesson in lady obedience training, I don’t know what is.

This is why Microsoft designed a bra that would keep women from overeating, but failed to invent male-targeted boxer briefs to do the same thing. Because in 2013, a woman’s worth is still very much tied up in how skinny — and submissive — she is.

There are plenty of photos of fat guys that draw the same sorts of "die" comments. She also womansplained life as a fat man while accusing microsoft engineers of "mansplaining" to fat women. :P

That's a fantastic idea. Interestingly, clicking "play" before a panel of wall-to-wall Gefan requires more planning than a Rebecca Watson talk and results in a deeper learning experience, too.

Also, semi-seriously consider a kickstarter to fund an "educational series" documenting the schism and tropes that skeptic feminists use in their takeover. Use this video here as an example of what plan to create. Funds could also clearly go to the construction of a portable kiosk securely holding several tablets for use at conventions. Or for a kiosk with a large screen TV connected to a tablet.

A brilliant idea. I would love to see this happen: Coordinated effort through the "Slyme Foundation". Especially as we are far more talented and entertaining that those plodding FTB idiots.

Mostly, I would love to see the convoluted rationales for suppressing it at cons.

To this I will only note the kernel of truth. For example in America, the vast.. vasssssst... majority of comedy programing features a fat homely man and a skinny wife. I can only conclude that somewhere, maybe it's a Hollywood suits thought cult, maybe it's actually the audience, or a terrible union of both, but there's a preponderance of influential belief that generally in society it's more ok for a guy to be a fat slob than a woman. Don't know that it's true, but the belief is definitely there.

Perhaps I'm watching the ads for those shows with an overly critical eye, but I don't think so. As my only evidence I will bring up Will and Grace, who once had a moment in their show where they sat on a couch to watch tv, and it was *click*, and they both said "fat guy skinny wife" robotically, in unison, then again *click* "fatguyskinnywife", and again about three or four times. Then shut off the tv :D

Anyway, once you see something like that and draw conclusions, it can be terribly tempting to start seeing it _everywhere_, to the point of absurdity (and hilarity). But that's exactly an SJW's addiction, they can't get enough of hysteria and drama.

They are just awful!
