As far as I can tell, most US atheists kind of just fell into it. Which helps explain all the atheists who subscribe to all the other woo and stupidy-- homeopathy, acupuncture, climate change denial, AIDS denial, general science denial, alternate medicine, ghosts and other supernatural beliefs (that one puzzles me the most, how do you NOT believe in a God, BUT believe in ghosts... makes my head want to explode).
fixed that for you
wait. How does one "fall into" being an atheist?
Did you take classes in atheism? Do you think most people go out and study the issue? No, most people they have some sort of weak faith and stop going to church to watch football or whatever it is... Then they stop going... Then one day they come to the realization they don't really believe and never really did, but that they were going through the motions.
And those are those are the ones that at went to church. Most of my Euro/Oceanic friends don't even do that to become atheists. They, but for weddings and tourism, have never been in a church. It's not part of their lives. It's never been part of their lives. It will never be part of their lives. Not because of study or some great epiphany, rather they 'fell into atheism' because they never had the push to experience theism by their family who never went to church, believed in God, or any such stuff.
And, of course, there are my Chinese friends. All atheists. Most of them haven't a had a religious person in their family since WWII. And those that did were Ancestor Worship Chinese, not Christians...
It was an honest question. I was not having a go. To me, atheism is the default, so I can see one "falling into" some religion or dogmatic cult, but I wanted to make sure I understood you correctly, because it is a strange way of describing what you are referring to.
I'll let Ricky Gervais give an example:
the part of your response that I have emphasized below and then rest of the paragraph in which you say

is exactly what I am referring to. If religion was never a part of one's life, how can they "fall into" being atheist?
how can one "fall into" any non-belief or non-hobby?
and:
Did you take classes in atheism? Do you think most people go out and study the issue?
how can one "take classes" and/or "study" an absence of belief in something.
also -
No, most people they have some sort of weak faith and stop going to church to watch football or whatever it is...
you recently said to Rayshul:
"I'm sorry, but is this ironic? Or are you just that sheltered?"
it seems that you are the sheltered one.
and just because I want to make you aware of your consistent and relentless US-Centrism, does not mean that I don't respect your opinion when it comes to other things.
