One more thing about Seth. Although he's a gun owner, Republican leaning (I think) - he's OK as far as the Baboons are concerned because at least he's not a Libertarian like Shermer.

The Baboon element have a strange parallel to the Hard Left UK Socialist Party, where they turn on their own types far more often than the people who hold opposite political views to them. The Socialist Workers Party always seem to be engaged in witch hunts, and have had problems with "gender traitors" (women who don't toe their political line).

I myself am a leftist (moderate left by US standards: I support things like universal health care, social safety nets and while I don't demonize capitalism as a whole, I just think we need solid rules and referee policies to make it a fair playing field) and am appalled at how some of my fellow lefties are demonizing anyone who disagrees with them on political issues. I wanna take these people aside and be like "You are embarassing us, STOP!" To hear some of these types talk, you'd think Penn Jillette and Michael Shermer were planning to cause the downfall of western civilization as we know it because *OMG!* they don't agree with my particular views on tax rates for the top 5% and about socialized health care systems!

Here's a thought that just struck me, which is, I think, very telling.

We are seeing a CONSTANT stream of people saying, in effect:

"I was a babboollie, but gradually got fed up with what I was seeing and hearing. Same with PZ - if those prank car dealership phone calls are "harmful," then the records of incoming calls should be examined, and the area code/phone number/identity of the caller can be determined. Easy, and probably doesn't even require a police investigation. Just do it and put your mind at ease.

Sorry, Louis is out of bound for me. He is a IRL friend, and probably the only member of the A/S web community I ever met IRL. Spent a lovely day with Ali, him and his family couple of years ago. He is, and I shall emphasize this, nothing like the usual suspects. he's a very peaceful friendly guy, and doesn't play by "internet balls". I remember it being something like a nomination process. Someone mentions your name, they see if you've done or said anything problematic. If no one complains, you're added and can view it.

It's (from what remember) nothing sinister. Just a place where people batted around silliness and occasionally something important about their lives they'd rather be kept secret.

Well I am going to indulge some blanket judgements myself and note that I suspect it is projection, and how they came to atheism themselves. In other words the primary motivation is political.

Their rejection of religion is the rejection of a belief system associated with their political opposition more than any other consideration.

One test for this could be what their stance is on evo psych vs evolution. At a minimum it should answer the question as to who has "outsourced" their thinking.

So they might have rejected religion, but still being religious, have substituted one god for another. In this case PeeZuss Christ is a prophet, and in the end they are no different than those who wish to kill the unbelievers.

I am open to other suggestions, but for me this theory goes a long way to explain their behaviour and attitudes. The fundies who have noticed and remarked that they are just like them may justly have a case.

Well that's the thing Lsuoma. I drank their koolaid. I took them at their word. I used to talk like a sailor. The 'c' word was my #1 word. Along with 'bitch'. And they made me rethink that. I started thinking about rape culture ,and about how referring to women as 'bitch' can be the equivalent of hate speech. I was just getting into re-examining all of my previously held beliefs. I did not want to just dismiss their ideas, I wanted to learn, and see if there was any truth to what they are saying.

And they treated me like a steaming pile of shit for not having Feminism 101 tattooed on my fucking ass from the moment I was born. They drove away an ally with their Kafka traps . You know, FTB, obviously gearing up for a major harassment campaign and digging up that old Democratic Underground post brings back memories.

I can't dredge it up because I've made peace with the guy involved. But the short version is he paid money, he says, to get personal info on me and then made the mistake of saying "Your wife would be easy to spot, but I wouldn't do that because I'm a nice guy". If his intent was to get under my skin it worked, because I had a very intemperate response to that.

Is there more info on this somewhere? I'm starting to wonder whether it might be worth giving higher-profile folks like you entries on Phawrongula to set the record straight on a few things.

The guy who did that post cited on Democratic Underground was responding mostly in fear to my taking his referencing "spotting my wife" in the most uncharitable manner possible.

He's a regular poster on JREF and in the years since we have buried the hatchet and recognize the tunnel-vision of a good flame war. What's more, there was a slew of doxing going on and some of the people harassing me were genuinely dangerous right-wingers. So he probably got some bleed-over rage from people unequivocably threatening.

Let me run these past him through JREF and see what he thinks. I don't want to dredge up old shit that involves other people and may just lead assholes to questioning my ex-wife just because FTB has to dig back into a 7 year old flame war in a search for relevance.

Trust me, the guy is no fan of FTB, Rebecca Watson and P.Z. Meyers. Already talked to him months ago about this and they aren't getting anything more from him. I'm sure he won't appreciate their dragging him into their drama.

If anyone can linky to whatever has been tweeted or posted on FTB about this, because quite frankly, I barely read their shit, it would make it easier to pass on the links.

Email PZ and tell him to ban me. I doubt he will because he knows I don't share the apparent values of many people here. PZ does ban people associated with this place who seem keen to spout the same old well refuted stuff, but that's his business, not mine. PZ's a big boy, he can manage his blog his way, just like you (plural/whatever) can manage this place your way. It's no skin off my nose that other people have different standards to mine. PZ's are different to mine. Yours are (likely) different to mine. So? I don't speak for the guy, I don't speak for you, I speak for me.

I'd really be very, very surprised if PZ banned me for a handful of posts here.
