Possible DDoS attack on the server hosting the Slyme Pit

#1

Post by Lsuoma »

It looks like there may be a DDoS attack on the server hosting the Slyme Pit going on at present.

I'm in contact with the hosting company and I'm hoping to get more information soon.

I have seen load averages as high as 5300 (on an 8-CPU box, that's going to hurt). The server was rebooted, but the load average continues to climb (it's currently around 50).

As a result the Pit may be down intermittently until we can figure out what is going on.

Note that DDoS is just a hypothesis at present, and may or may not be the cause of the problem.

Editing to add: destickifying.

FWIW - load times for me here are fine and dandy.

Any idea which other sites are hosted on the server?

It's all under control again now, and has been for around 55 minutes. I'm waiting on update from the hosting service on root cause.

My own website was caught in an attack on my provider a few months ago. It is possible you were not the target, unless there are logs showing your IP as the target that is ; - )

Was there another attack last night? There were a few hours when I couldn't get the pit.

Don't know - I've been offline dealing with a personal emergency. I'll take a look at the logs when I get a chance.
