I had pizza and tea with 3 of the remaining Sex Pistols tonite. Charming & gracious gentlemen: they offered to do their own dishes. Also the fellow who directed Trainspotting. And the kids who play Pistols in his new mini-series. The kids are new to celebrity-- they were shy about eating the food provided & ordering drinks. Funny thing is-- the guy hired to serve drinks-- played Sylvain Sylvain of the New York Dolls in Scorsese's 70's rock tv series, a few years ago. Overheard a sophisticated woman tell her daughter that the best investment opportunities these days are: "unvaccinated sperm, garden seeds, and ammo". Another bartender was a former PIrelli calendar girl & serious-art modern dancer-- who toured the world for decades-- who I've crossed paths-with since we were 15. Funny to see how a woman with a ballet body and crow's feet around the eyes-- who does yoga, pilates, tai chi, whatever... was the perfect 50 year old target for gentle flirting for nightlife veterans in their 70's. She's young & fit enough to catch their eye/ old enough to not-be unseemly. Fun night. Smoked salmon with roe is a good pizza topping.

They're quite similar, when you think about it. I have friends stocking up on special prepper seeds that will supposedly last either 20 years or until Kevin Costner starts delivering the mail again.

Health care addressing obesity is ... you guessed it ... racist.

https://publichealth.uic.edu/community- ... ic-health/
Public Health’s focus on “obesity” prevention has increased exponentially within the last few decades, and with it an increase in weight stigma and negative attitudes towards people in larger bodies. In the past decade, weight discrimination has increased by 66 percent, and is one of the only forms of discrimination actively condoned by society. Decades of research have shown that experiencing weight stigma increases one’s risk for diabetes, heart disease, discrimination, bullying, eating disorders, sedentariness, lifelong discomfort in one’s body and even early death.

Additionally, “obesity” related public health approaches can be harmful because they are based on limited or poor quality evidence, they focus on preventing one outcome at the expense of another outcome, they lack community engagement and they ignore the root cause of problems. However, the public health field has not taken a critical look at this research, focusing on the narrative that weight is controllable and a personal responsibility. If the goal is to find the most ethical and effective strategies to achieve optimal public health, there needs to be an alternative to “obesity” and weight-focused approaches and a shift in understanding of weight stigma as a social justice issue.
It's the stigma.

By the way, the female Cassin's Finch is almost identical looking to the mystery bird. The lower body stripes very slightly different, the males in the vicinity were not Cassin's, and Cassin's only occur in this area as rare accidentals.
As for the chickadee calls, we have Chestnut Backed Chickadees here and they have some of the same basic calls as the Black Capped. Iknow these birds very well as I have been hand feeding them for about 25 years in the park just down the street. The zeet zeet zeet call is exactly as she says, a raptor warning. I can mimic well enough to send the birds into cover
The single, seet call is as she says a general stay in touch, keep the flock together call that i think also might signal food is around. I find it can bring a bird around from a fair distance for a treat.
It is surprising how loud these calls are. If they are sitting on your shoulder at the time it is nearly painful.

Good. Though I’m conflicted. I appreciated his ostensible social conservatism, his hard line on China and the presence of Dutton in Defence. But at heart he is an eco-globalist.

Labor in turn are woke social and economic globalists.

But Scott is an arrogant prick. He is at best a “manager by spreadsheet” - never a leader. Also, his pro military, pro Aussie suburban values facade is cos-play. Most of the criticism and intense dislike directed his way is spot on. I couldn’t stand seeing him in power.

Australia is now too complex and diverse for 2x parties, one a worker party straying into multi-cult urban woke. The other a mess of capital meets middle class fear and aspiration combined with rural conservatism while embracing urban liberal Demi-wokism.

We need four groups and coalition governments in order for voices to be heard. The labour left needs to join the Greens for a progressive left option. The labor right needs to join the Liberal left and centre to reclaim the Teals and form a middle-soft mainstream progressive party. The nationals need to collapse back into the Country/Regional Party. And the Liberal right needs to sweep back the Clive Palmer and One Nation votes and form the Conservative Party.

The view from behind the Banana curtain, in the absence of Anteater Guy.

I think that the ads with Scomo saying 'That's not my job' (selectively edited as they are) are resonated with a lot of people.

No more Scomo. So we're likely to have Mr Potatohead * as opposition leader - can the libs keep from from lurching further to the right under him? Don't know, but I doubt they will be more electable if they go there.

Looks like my electorate has turned Green. Great :bjarte: .

Some good may come, though; Pauline** may be on her way out, and Clive's*** money has bought him (possibly) one senator :cdc: .

The ACT seems set to put a footballer in the Senate who, after attending one of his events, has apparently never had an original thought, but has leaned how to spout woke platitudes. So, the bar can always be lower. I'm glad I didn't partake in the election farce.

If that's your birdfeeder, you should try oil sunflower seeds instead of millet. You get a better range and more interesting birds
By the way, a lot of people are taking down their birdfeeders while the Avian Flu is going on to inhibit spread.

The argument has been put forward that religion (or more specifically christianity) was needed to both create and sustain the West. Also, something, something...Jungian archetypes.

Here's some chick from a strict Jewish family who joined Jen McCreight's student atheist group at Purdue & then some atheist group in Long Island-- which went woke/ so she disembarked-- and now she's some sorta AnCap mythic-symbolism internet hipster nerd. Of course she uses terms like 'The Cathedral'. And-- I don't think she actually mentioned Jordan Peterson-- but she's clearly a fan. She's very 2022, including her whole endeavor feelin' kinda pointless and un-exciting. She talks about how Skeptic types had a blindspot regarding Big Science/ Govt/ Globalist Covid Bullshit. And how Libertarians wrongly assumed all the covidfear tyranny would shake everyone's inner libertarian awake. (Turns out most people don't have an inner Rand Paul.)

If you're changing the oil on your PT Cruizer or waiting for a prostate exam-- or whatever birdwatchers are into-- then this is some low-density low-effort background chatter to slightly-enjoy.

In the social class to-which I was born & raised, the correctness of one's argument was hampered, not bolstered, when gilded with an obnoxious demeanor.

But I've lived my adult life in another class & subculture-- among truculent executives & pugnacious jews & wealthy karens & ghetto thugs & arabs-- who regard bellicosity as a virtue, as-might the proud parents-- of an alpha-baby raptor seizing food from its weaker nestmates.

I keep my elbows sharp & try to hold my own. But today I enjoyed watching one of those pompous pricks get his richly-deserved comeupence.

Absolutely note.

Circumcision is a decision that should be made by the parents.
It's also been a cultural practice that has been around for eons and clearly does not result in the moral degeneration and collapse of the culture that practices it.
"Tradition", amirite? ;-)

Though of course, as Marcus suggested, cutting a little bit off the top is rather different from cutting it all off. Reminds me of a Jewish joke:
Question: Why do Jewish men get circumcized?
Answer: No Jewish woman will buy anything unless it's marked "10% off" ... :rimshot:
But seems that Bill Maher is commendably weighing-in on the topic:

Of particular note at about 6:19:

“I don't understand parents who won't let their nine-year-old walk to the corner without a helmet, an epipen, and a gps tracker. And god forbid their lips touch dairy. But hormone blockers and genital surgery, fine. Talk about a nut allergy.”

A durable theme:

As Maher noted, "We’re literally experimenting on children" - turning many of them into sexless eunuchs. Guess adults should be allowed to do that to themselves, but autistic and dysphoric children? Crime of the century, Mengele compounded with the Tuskegee Syphilis Study.

Not surprisingly, many on the left have gotten their knickers in a twist over Maher calling a spade a fucking shovel:

I hosted my poly-daughter's 29th birthday party on Saturday at my house. We had a taco bar, Margarettas, a nice fire, smores. We sang songs and had a nice visit with some of my daughter's friends. A nice party.

I just listened, served the food and played the guitar a bit.

My daughter and her trans-male "Friend" had a long discussion with their black-lesbian childhood friend about how J.K.Rowling is a TERF. I just listened for an hour.

I had a bit of a revelation. Trans persons think they are completely "normal". The fact that they cut off their breasts, or cocks, and take hormones, and cut up their genitals is just a normal human endeavor. So, they don't see their trans status as being a "treatment". They see their trans status as an exploration to find the truth. They really believe gender is a "expression" that is on a spectrum.

The child, Charley, also came over for the party. Charley is a biological girl of about 9 years old. Charley's pronoun is "they". I politely asked Charley's biological "they" mom why Charley goes by "they". I observe that Charley has behaviors that are almost entirely typically female. She dresses "cute." She engages others in a gentle feminine way. She is not "sporty" or "tough". She cowers at loud noises. So... yeah... I made this honest observation and asked why Charley is a "they". Charley's parent said...."Charley is deciding what they want to do."

So... anyway... a fine party. I just watch the circus. (So... here is a list... daughter(pansexual polyamorist), male friend(gay), transmale friend(polamorist), female non-binary friend(polyamorist), Female(lesbian), Child(non-binary). My younger daughter and husband are just plain straight. Haha.
