And while we consider such nationalism, I was just reading an article about how populations will move in response to climate change, if it is real etc etc. Seems to me the smart move for America would be to build a tiny short wall, rather than a long (1950 miles), porous and expensive one. Make a one-time offer to Mexico to be annexed with full citizenship. Then build a short (540 miles) cheap and impermeable wall along the Mexico-Guatemala border. In this week's news, a federal court in Canada has ruled that the USA is not a 'safe third country' and thus the thousands leaving the USA each month to cross the border into Canada at unofficial crossing points (see Roxham Road) and make refugee claims here will end. It will now be official Canadian policy that anyone may enter Canada at any border crossing, official or otherwise, and make their refugee claim just as easily and legally, even if they already have a claim open in the USA. In totally unrelated news, officials warn that the Canada-USA border will not be opening any time soon, purely to keep out the plague, you understand, and nothing to do with refugees.

I could have raised a confederate battle flag... but I have no skin in that game. My family fought for the Union. If I had one more column I would have raised a "star spangled banner" flag, which was the version of the flag that flew over Fort McHenry when the National Anthem was written. Troy is a suburb that started even before the white-flight from Detroit in the early 70s. Many houses were built in the 60s and so our trees are mature and we have many spaces that are fairly wild. So... the wilderness is moving back here. There are rabbits, squirrels, deer and skunks galore. I see deer about every other day... and they eat my plants every night... the bastards. Foxes and coyotes have moved in. My neighbor lost their little dog to a coyote. Coyotes don't eat dogs, but they are territorial, so they attack a dog they think they can hurt. I always leash walk my little 15 pound mutt so she doesn't get attacked.

I do love it here. I feed the birds and squirrels and my backyard is like a little zoo. I love it.
