Mucking about with this.

Do people think the revised format works? Would it be useful?

It would be a life time hobby of adding links (try clicking the first 02/05 World Atheist Convention blue block)

If it is a goer maybe a group would like to assist?
I'd be happy to rebrand. I only push the Brive1987 as a fuck-you meme to SJ types.

That is a good way to put it together.

How about making an interactive Tiki-Toki timeline as well?

Thanks !

I had reviewed about 4 or 5 timeline apps a little while back - and each had limitations that pushed me away.

But this looks interesting on quick glance. I will have a play.

I hope this works... I am such a noob when it comes to these things...

Mic.com (yeah, yeah) posted an article (of course with no name attached to it) regarding students asking other students if they are related to each other because they have the same last name. I think that what these girls did in their yearbook photos is great. What gets me (ok not really) is that they have of course injected race into the headline (no mention of race anywhere else):

https://www.dropbox.com/s/6lxnqpntf702q ... n.jpg?dl=0

Of course that was really not the headline. Can you guess what it really was?

Here is the archived webpage with the original headline:

https://web.archive.org/web/20160205070 ... 00411.html

Here is the original story that has no mention of race:

:-) Except that I haven’t ever said “all black people” – or all Jews, all men, all women, all homosexuals, or all tiddlywinkers. It has always been, more or less, a question of whether related epithets were targeting all members of the group or just some of them. As Adam Croom put it in his linguistics paper on slurs:
... [Chris] Rock claimed it was socially acceptable for black people to refer to segments of the black population that degraded the black community through laziness and stupidity as “Niggas” [rather than “Black People”]” ....
And if black people get to do that then why not white, pink, green, or yellow people? Would seem kind of racist to argue otherwise.

But, somewhat more importantly, my analogy from way back when – the infamous “Nigger-Cunt Hypothesis” – was intended to question the apparent hypocrisy of many people making free use of “cunt” as an epithet while getting their knickers in a twist over analogous ones. If we’re prepared to champion the competition for “Cunt of the Year Award” – convincingly and justifiably won by Connie St. Louis – then, for example, why not “Kike of the Year Award”? This Orthodox Jewish woman would certainly get my vote:
Jerry Coyne wrote:And of course the link he sent was to the New York Times article on the death of 7 children in a single Jewish family last Friday. Because of Sabbath regulations, Orthodox Jews are not allowed to turn their oven on or off from Friday sundown to Saturday evening, for that constitutes work, and you can’t work on the Sabbath. The mother was apparently keeping food warm on a hotplate (turned on before Friday sundown), and the hotplate malfunctioned, causing a fire that killed everyone but the father, who was away, as well as the mother and one daughter, who jumped out their second-floor window.
And, for a hat-trick, why not “Nigger of the Year Award”? For which Michael Brown has to be a shoe-in, and likely to get the “Patron Saint of Stupid Ass Niggers” award to boot, although that tends to be one that is awarded posthumously for which he is eminently qualified. And a second-place award has to go to that black student squawking through a bull-horn about oppression, wrapping himself in the flag of his race, while his family is sitting on some $20 million in assets.

Bit of stretch to be arguing that the first competition is golden while implying or insisting that the latter two are beyond the Pale.

PZ went to the movies and didn't like The Revenant. He goes full MacIntosh.

Archive.is link
PZ MyerSarkeesian wrote:Similarly problematic is the treatment of Indians. They, too, are mostly dead and slaughtered, and are convenient motivators for the angry white man. Indian women get it even worse: bartered, prostituted in frontier bars, kidnapped, raped, murdered, and occasionally being privileged to reappear as mystical magical floating ghosts to inspire Leo DiCaprio to persevere. Warning: some people had an even stronger revulsion to the abuse of Indian women than I did.
Except for the group of Indians following Glass, who takes some form of retributive justice in their hands.

And the woman who takes revenge in her hands by castrating her rapist and is reuinted with her father in the end.

So you know nothing, PZ Myers. Have you even paid attention?
The story has the same fundamental problem as Dances With Wolves. It takes a deep tragedy that shattered an entire people in a gloriously beautiful landscape, and centers it entirely on the lone white guy having a rough time on the prairie. There is a great movie waiting to be made about this period and this place, but The Revenant isn’t it. We’re still waiting for a movie maker who actually understands what the American West was about.
So the original story was about a white dude, and they dared to cast a white dude. Oh the horror.

In the comments, this idiot appears:
Athywren - This Thing Is Just A Thing wrote:Well… I guess I should’ve read this post before agreeing to go see it next week. I have the worst feeling now that I’m going to have a list of things to comment on afterwards, and it might be a difficult discussion – the last thing we went to see was The Usual Suspects, and I commented on the Indian Kobayashi being played by the English and browned up Pete Postlethwaite with a head wobble and a dodgy accent… that didn’t get a hostile reaction, but there was definitely a sense of not getting why there was a problem there.
This guy saw the Usual Suspects, where nobody is what they seem to be, but he's completely sure that Kobayashi, a guy we actually know nothing about, is "Indian".

I think much of the appeal of feminism for those kind of people is that it gives them the opportunity to transition from victim to perpetrator. The ability to join a Feminist Twitter mob and bully with impunity, in absolute safety due to the sheer number of fellow abusers, will be a very attractive prospect for quite a few former victims.

Probably.

Although the line between someone who wants to get things right and an abusive bully is a fine one.

John Cleese attacks SJWism:
John Cleese says political correctness has gone too far, especially on America's college campuses, where he will no longer go to perform. The very essence of his trade — comedy — is criticism and that not infrequently means hurt feelings. But protecting everyone from negative emotion all the time is not only impractical (one can't control the feelings of another), but also improper in a free society. Cleese, having worked with psychiatrist Robin Skynner, says there may even be something more sinister behind the insistence to be always be politically correct.

Disreputable lot though I should get bonus points for "cultural appropriation". And as I'm 1/4 Irish - paternal grandmother from Dublin, if I'm not mistaken - I don't think the SJW mob have a leg to stand on for either charge. :-)

My theory is that he's just a natural contrarian. Whenever he goes, he has to disagree with the majority of the people he interacts with. He's also incredibly stubborn about his projects to make natural language a completely formal language and to make politics simply a game of finding the easiest solution, morality be damned.

He has a really high analytical intelligence and really low emotional and social intelligence. He has to rely on formal scripts (spinning dancer, formal language, tit-for-tat) and so he naturally assumes that the world be better if everyone followed his scripts.

He might actually suffer from a mild case of Asperger's syndrome. Either that or he's a master troll.

To be fair, I tend to discuss and argue points more that I disagree with, than sit around chatting about the stuff I do agree with. "^This". Perhaps that is a human tenancy. The differences are inherently more interesting. And there isn't much to discuss about the points of agreement. That is why when atheists get together, they don't sit around and talk about how much they don't believe in god.

I didn't mean to necessarily characterize Steersman negatively just for being a natural contrarian. But his contrarian nature explains why his posts look more appealing to us when he's not targeting us.

I happen to agree that discussing differences is much, much more rewarding than discussing what we agree with and this is why I want Steersman to always be able to post here.

However I also understand why his tactics make him hard to like. Especially since, as I've written, he's pretty low on emotional intelligence. He doesn't seem to understand the need for nuance: if Angela Merkel talks about the eventual return to Syria of the Syrian refugees he takes it as a tacit agreement with his "deport all Muslims" plan. Likewise if an ex-Muslim (Rizvi) criticizes Islam moderates.

The same thing happens with his nigger-cunt hypothesis. He doesn't seem to understand that meaning derives at least partly from social norms. He's fixated on a formal analogy that must be true no matter what.

He has the same problem with his definition of "women", with his "tit-for-tat" tactics, etc. I happen to see a pattern there.

Being a natural contrarian isn't bad for you or others if you can manage to be able to apply some nuance, some compromise to your contrarian attitude. If you're not able to interact socially with the necessary amount of nuance being a contrarian is only going to leave isolated. As it has happened with Steers here.

For example even a natural contrarian who has some degree of social awareness wouldn't dare to speak evil of a recently deceased person a their funeral, even if the general mood there is to remember the good side of the dead.

I'm not saying that Steersman is that socially unaware. But he seems to like some necessary nuance.

I swear I am voting Trump. Haha. I have white man CIS gender hetero paranoia. I can't watch TV or listen to the radio without some fuck telling me how shitty my race and status are. As I think I wrote a few days ago, I am 100% apathetic about racism in America. The whole story is so fucked up I can't make sense out of it.

My brother and I played badminton for several years at a club in suburban Detroit. We were the only whites except for an old man and a few Germans. Most of the members where Chinese or East Indian. We had a great time and badminton is a super workout. We both ended up with injuries however (mostly my back) and don't play now. Anyway.... none of the Asians could tell my brother and I apart. They would just walk up to us and say ... "So.... are you John or are you Jeff". We would laugh and say something like "I am John and I have the red bandanna on tonight!" Haha. We found this to be exceedingly funny cause we saw these guys twice a week for a year....

but...

I never got pissed about it. I always just told them which brother I was that day. It's not like they didn't like me or were bigots or anything. They just couldn't tell us apart.

The yearbook idea is pretty funny. I hope everyone in the school thought it was funny. I hope the girls are not really that upset and I hope the news article is exaggerating the "hurt" these girls feel. I mean.... come on..... what are the chances that four unrelated Asian student have the same name and are not related? I would ask this myself if I didn't already know the answer. This is a perfectly innocent question... I mean... fuck... people are just trying to get to know you when they ask this.

That may be, but he doesn't deserve to be followed day and night and to be treated in this way by what is supposed to be the mainstream media. Connie St. Louis is a massive cunt. She even won a contest! But you don't see the press following her to her home and facilitating the kind of relentless bullying that they both equally deserve.

If I'm not mistaken, Roosh says rape should be ok in certain circumstances, right? That warrants a bit of following, IMO.

And Connie St. Louis lied to bring down a Nobel Prize winner. Jackie from UVA cost the college and local governments millions of dollars and thousands of man-hours. The frat lost its charter and a ton of other people were hurt. That warrants a bit of following, IMO.

In the case of Korean last names, the odds are higher than you might think:

I don't remember arguing that St Louis shouldn't be closely followed. I think she should, for what it's worth.

Roosh's arguments are on par with the Islamists. Connie is just a lying cunt. I don't think she's calling for a change in the law that would permit rape.

From what very little I have looked into this, I can find nothing written that says the girls are offended by being asked if they are related to another "Nguyen". I am sure it might get a little annoying, but it seems that they are treating this like adults (non SJW adults) and are making a funny joke about it.

I guess what gets me (I know it shouldn't) is the headline. A story that mentions nothing about the race of the offenders has a headline stating that white students are the guilty party and were one-upped by these poor oppressed POC.

And yes, it is only mic which according to Wikipedia is a "media company focused on news for a generation known as the "millennials", but I see this kind of shit all the time in "news feeds".

If this was a non-liberal "media company" of equal size to mic (19 million unique monthly hits) that had that as a headline, the siren of hurt would definitely be singing louder than some douchebag complaining about it in the pit.

What about the people who ARE calling for a redefinition of rape to include sex one regrets? And Connie drove a man to suicidal ideation and lied about Milo on national TV and her apology included a lie.

My first encounter with something like this was in Peace Corps training in Africa in '95. Out of the 60 or so volunteers there were about 3 Indian Americans and one from Sri Lanka. The chick from Sri Lanka came from money and acted like a princess while also telling everyone that she would form a special bond with the locals because she wasn't a colonialist oppressor. About 6 weeks into our training the director called a big meeting of all the trainees to tell us that SLC(Sri Lankan chick)was from SRI LANKA and not INDIA and she's really hurt when people confuse the two. SLC then got up and while crying told us with zero irony that it wasn't her job to educate people. A Peace Corps volunteer saying she her job wasn't to educate people. That was the first time I heard that SJW meme and never heard it again until the Internet. BTW-she quit shortly after our week of field orientation-where you live for a week at your assigned location with family. The locals didn't understand the difference between Indians and Sri Lankans either. They're familiar with Indians because they see Bollywood movies, but they never heard of Sri Lanka. She wrote a resignation letter that was both self aggrandizing and simultaneously self pitying; which is an achievement.

Perez is a pandering SJW idiot, but that said, I didn't care much for the movie myself. It's beautiful to look at, which presents a certain contrast with the ugliness of what's going on. If you're planning on seeing it, see on a big screen. The performances are terrific, especially Tom Hardy who manages to make a cartoon villain sympathetic.
The problems:
It takes an interesting true story and turns it into standard Hollywood revenge actioneer. A family and a murdered loved one are invented to give Hugh Glass more motivation than mere survival.
Tom Hardy plays a Snidely Whiplash like villain. One of his first lines is referring to the natives as "tree niggers" to let us all know he's a bad guy. Was "tree niggers" ever even a thing? He says it like 50 times in the movie.
An unnecessary subplot involving wrong natives out for revenge is invented so they don't look like savages. Apparently having uninvited strangers on your land and taking your stuff isn't enough reason to go after them. In this sense the movie is very PC.

It was my understanding that Roosh wrote article presenting a hypothetical (along the lines of 'A Modest Proposal') - for allowing rape of women to be legal on private property. The effect of this thought experiment would be that women would take a lot more responsibility for their own safety under these conditions.

I don't think he was seriously advocating for rape laws to be abolished.

However, I'm not a big follower or advocate for his point of view and he may still be a scumbag.
