please help the blond.
Ixchel is the latest name-change of poster SG, more accurately SGBM (Strange Gods Before Me). He does to the Horde what the Horde does to everyone else, and it's killing them

TZT is "The Zombie Thread". PZ did it ostensibly separate those he considers trolls and idiots from the main threads. He assigns them to the TZT, and if they post anywhere else they get banned. It's actually a clever way to jack up the pageview count and put even more money in his pocket, because the regulars who can't handle being bullied by Ixchel/SGBM love to go to TZT and mock and bully those TZT prisoners who actually post there.

TET is The Endless Thread, which has gone on for years in installments. The regulars go there as a social outlet when they need a break from all the bullying they dish out to others. And that's why Ixchel is causing so many hurt fee-fees - he's being as direct and to the point in TET and everywhere else, and the bullies have their fee-fees hurt because they feel someone is bullying them in their "safe place".

Thank you.

He has issued a reprimand to one of the horde who apparently in SJW (Social Justice Warrior) mode has cause a few to flounce recently including one who was apparently well loved:
This confirms what I said in my letter. Posters must be adults, if they can't be adults you need to set a policy which is applied to everyone equally. Adults can disagree in a civil manner.

And from the looks of things, he might be finally realising this.

I would be extremely surprised if he did. That would mean he'd have to look at his actions and probably realize what he has been doing. Too much cognitive dissonance for that. I suspect he'll do what he always has done - ban the offending party and let the babooning continue - well, the acceptable babooning that is.

So like half of the hardcore baboons have flounced? Not really a fortress anymore, is it? More like a straw house. Course, I'm sure there are junior baboons eagerly waiting to take their place. This is the internet after all. There's no shortage of outraged PC sycophants.

I am glad that they've finally admitted that most atheists either don't like them or don't care about them, with much more leaning toward the latter. Although it's continuously tilting toward the former because of their idiotic call-outs like what they did with Ratz, their meddling in policies, their support of little dramas over T-shirts and coffee and the like and their readily apparent hypocrisy if anyone was to take a glance their way (mind the smell, though).

Why did you think I called him on it? He is a misogynist. Abbie is more of a feminist than he or RW will ever be, at least my branch of feminism. Abbie is curing diseases She is doing good work, and PZ denigrates her for this? It's revolting.

I realise some/a lot of you hate the term feminist but I am only using it in this context. I believe in humans not menz humans versus womenz humans, we are humans.
Seems to me, that the way that word has been flung around in the past it would be appropriate yes?
Indeed it is. As I pointed out in my letter, it is now used as an insult not as an actual statement of fact. And as I have pointed out in the past, the various factions of feminists fight it out between themselves. We don't need that added to the mix in our fight against theism.

I can see how, after arguing with someone for hours who is immune to rational arguments, you might then reach for Social Psychology to explain your predicament.
Arguing is the real issue I think. I try not to argue but to discuss. One result though of my style, is that invariably whatever camp the other party is, quite a few assume that I am in the other, and apparently construct a "strawman" of myself, and then engage in mind reading.

This I admit, amuses me.

None the less and despite these setbacks, I have in the past, won people over to my point of view on a specific issue. I attribute this to my being willing to explore their side in a non-confrontational manner. For example before I got banned :

http://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/ ... ent-410909
Yes I do understand that you believe that the majority are being “forced to accept a change in social standards”, my question is where is the harm?

Can you give some examples where suppressing homosexual expression has shown to be a benefit to society?
One of the benefits is sometimes I am shown to be wrong on one of my points. That is always a win for me. Sometimes I get a bonus when the other party has seen that I am willing to conceed where they are right, is now more ready and willing to listen where I think they are wrong. I have noticed though that it is usually a conservative who is willing to do this.
disumbrationist wrote: However, since we deal with individuals and not Conservatives as a group, we can't assume what's true for the mean has any bearing on the individual (the oft overlooked Ecological Fallacy). So, in general, I'm skeptical of both the firmness of the conclusions of such studies, and their relevance.
If we had a functioning skeptical community at the current time, things like this would be our main occupation. Both Orac and ERV do this well; they are adept at separating out the good and useful science from the bad. PZ was decent at this too, especially within his area of expertise. It shames me that the community is currently focusing so much on personalities and ZOMG INTERNETS DRAMA XD. I can only hope that people will learn that elevator etiquette, t-shirt etiquette, and such are not serious business, and at least mix in some skepticism in with their grudge colllecting.

Interestingly, the Ecological Fallacy reappears in the confusion over Privilege. Privilege is a perfectly well-behaved concept so long as you're comparing the average values of groups, say the relative rates at which whites and blacks are unjustly harassed by the police. We can use these comparisons to infer that, if nothing else is known about someone than that they are a member of group X, they might be treated differently than if they were of group Y. But this will take the form of a probabilistic statement, and could be refuted by further information about the person. That is about the extent of it; you are looking at populations, not individuals. So, if you say to someone that they are Privileged, you are misusing terminology that correctly describes groups to describe an individual.

If you say someone is Privileged and use this to discount what they argue, you have deftly combined the Ecological fallacy with the ad hominem circumstantial and truly deserve a round of applause.
I pretty much agree with the above, although I must note that Ecological fallacy could be avoided with just a little "common sense" in my view, and failing that I always recommend this book:

I find that funny too. Aquaria was quite clearly the most foul mouthed of all foul mouthed baboons. Aquaria rarely, if ever, posted anything that did not include the instruction for someone to "just fuck off". But usually, much more was said, and always, always, derogatory, inflammatory, and insulting.

Oh, and as for Atheist Alliance International. I will make it a point never have anything to do with the organization. If an organization is going to allow their president to act as Nick has, then I for one want nothing to do with it. I have enough common sense to know that, as a woman, I do not want to be a part of any organization that thinks they need to dictate what is socially right and wrong, that I am overly-sensitive, need constant reassurance of my worth, and be led by the hand should anything wrong happen to me.
I love it.

Interesting post and comments. I found this one a very interesting and familiar here:
“But not some commenters at Feministe. Oh, no, THEY know better. Dr. Petit is an adult male, and so privileged he could never be an actual victim of anything. Can’t even spare a single kind word, some of them.”

This is the objectification that dare not say its name, or maybe just gets a pss on being named. It’s just dehumanization from a bunch of smug flesh-eating ghouls. This whole self-serving structure of privileged classes and non-privileged classes, blameable and exempt classes, this whole empathy hierarchy is just morally bankrupt. So there’s their version of social justice – an empathy apartheid.

Sweet letter, Dilurk. It's nice to know that these assholes scare other people, too. I've *never* posted on any of their blogs, never interacted with them on twitter, visited their blogs (without interacting!!) maybe 5-10 times in the past year... and I still wonder if they're going to come after me on yet another witch hunt. I mean, all I'd have to do is ask some questions and try to engage reasonably (see Justin) and suddenly it'd be all HELLFIRE BURN THEE and shit.

PZ's comments on that "everyone quits" thread are some fucking sad, weak-ass bullshit. Nice to know that it's Aquaria who flounced first, though. I don't think PZ's creepy love of pointing out rapey things wherever he can find them (HE WILL SCOUR THE INTERNET FOR THEM TO SHOW YOU like some really really fucked up cat bring home dead animals) is really helping their mental state. Given that they seem to have blockaded themselves inside the house with a stockpile of guns.

After Audrey on Rationalia's comment about him pointing people at rapey stuff... I've really been thinking about all that stuff. I think it's a good way to keep people feeling like victims. Great way to work people up to be in need of some serious white knighting.

Also: great misogyny from that AA guy! HAHAHAHA. I'd make a more insightful comment, but I'm too busy being emotional and crying and shit because my feelings were hurt. I'm really loving Wooly Bumblebee.

Ashley Miller, who was one of the victims of harassment IIRC (wasn't she the one who didn't report it then complained about it not being taken as sexual harassment?) writes an ironic post on being a geek and victimization. here
Being a geek shouldn’t be about a persecution complex. It shouldn’t be about being better than other people. It shouldn’t be about bullying people who want to be your friend now because of what you think they may have been like in high school. It should be about embracing people for being themselves and being grateful that they can be themselves when they are with you.
Hmmmm.....

...One last question, suppose Lord Russell, this film would to be looked at by our descendants, like a dead sea scroll in a thousand years time, what would you think is worth telling that generation, about the life you lived and the lessons you learned from it?

I would like to say two things -- one intellectual and one moral. The intellectual thing I should want to say to them is this; when you are studying any matter or considering any philosophy, ask yourself only what are the facts and what is the truth that the facts bear out. Never let yourself be diverted either by what you wish to believe or by what you think would have beneficent social effects if it were believed, but look only and solely at what are the facts. That is the intellectual thing that I should wish to say.

The moral thing I should wish to say to them is very simple -- I should say love is wise, hatred is foolish. In this world, which is getting more and more closely interconnected, we have to learn to tolerate each other. We have to learn to put up with the fact that some people say things that we don't like. We can only live together in that way, and if we are to live together and not die together, we must learn a kind of charity and a kind of tolerance which is absolutely vital to the continuation of human life on this planet

Noh mah gawd you guais.

I think I can finally say this out loud.

*deepbreath*

I have a hang nail.

My life has been a wreck for days. The experience has been so painful, physically and emotionally, I can barely function. I couldnt even go to the bank today.

You all will be shocked to hear-- Along with not providing personal security guards and strictly enforced harassment guidelines, neither OKC Atheists nor FreeOK nor SkepticsofOz have provided the women involved in these communities with manicurists. I cant imagine going to a conference like TAM without this critical issue being addressed. Who am I supposed to notify if I have a hang nail? Is the conference going to provide me with nail scissors? Nail Files? I mean is DJ Grothe going to get me Schedule I opiates for the pain, or does he literally want me to die slowly and painfully, just because I am a woman?

Before any of the misogynists here start blaming the victim and saying that this isnt Atheisms Problem, there are non-atheist ways of dealing with a relatively minor issue that has nothing to do with atheism that all of us deal with on a relatively frequent basis, and if my hang nail is infected or really is That Bad I should be going to the hospital, not volunteers at conferences, and maybe I should be taking some personal responsibility for my hang nails... I am shaking, with tears of rage in the corner of my eyes, thinking about how much the men in skepticism literally want me to be tortured and killed.

Im going to contact every leader of every domestic and international skeptic/atheist group and demand they issue an official statement and set up official procedures for how hang nails will be addressed in their respective circles. And if they dont, Im sure USA Today will be interested in hearing just how much male atheists literally enjoy watching women suffer.

Tears of rage, you guys. Tears of rage.

[/totally not a liiiiiittle buzzed right now. but really, this hang nail fucking hurts.]

Don't. Just Don't.
How can you belittle her horrible tragedy by calling it snark?
It set off so many triggers I cried, I vomited, I wet myself - all at once, while sneezing and farting. My ears even popped! All orifices opened wide in shock and dismay. I'll have to go back into therapy (and traction - that was some fart!). The last time I had a hangnail, I ended up chewing it off - to the elbow!

Don't worry Abbie - we have your back. I also noticed that throughout the Olympic coverage - not one mention of manicurists was made! Why do the Olympic Games hate women? We must add them to our blog posting campaign!

I saw an older woman walking around with a T-shirt with a picture of a nail file on the front. I've never seen anything so rude.

On the back it stated: I feel safe with my MAN-icure. What a misogynist, with no feelings for Abbie whatsoever.

OH MY GAWD! ALL THOSE APOSTROPHES! Apostrophes that look EXACTLY like my hang nail. After reading your post, Arnie found me curled up in a ball sobbing in the Green Room. That post is dehumanizing and gender/color blind. I thought we were allies, but it turns out you are a vacuous shitbag troll.

WE ARE AT WAR NOW!

You know what, I had to look up what a hangnail was. I found it especially funny because I just ripped up part of my fingernail working on my cars suspension the other day. I realise that my privilege means that my swollen bleeding finger isn't as big of a deal as ruining your impeccable manicure.

Hold on here. In my ancestral lands, hangnails are also known as “stepmother’s blessings”. As a stepmother, I feel marginalized and belittled by this crass demonization of hangnails. I may even be triggered.

Don’t. Just don’t.

Well, I'm going to get four different toxicologists to write blog posts about how nail salons are full of hazardous cosmetics and chemicals that damage the environment and cause health problems.

Because I'm a cuticle traitor like that. I feel safe and non-toxic without a manicure.
