Hi guys!

I just needed a break for a bit-- overwhelmed at work/home/blag + Sword of Damocles over ERV... I needed this.

HUGE thank you to Lsuoma for throwing out this life-raft! And Im not mad at anyone and dont a damn one of you 'feel bad' for anything youve said. If you do start feeling bad for me for some reason, remember I get paid per page-view, and every argument/discussion/point *you all* made, *I* got paid for. This was nothing *you all* did-- it was NatGeo getting harassed, and me pulling the plug to save them the grief.

Also, that part of us getting paid per site-hit is the explanation for why Trailer Park Laden posts shit articles. This 'feature' has plagued SciBlogs since I can remember. We used to have one dude who wrote a nice article maybe once every three weeks or so, but every goddamn day he would post some stupid picture and tag it to be on the front page, so REAL articles were bumped off. When he left (probably about Pepsi or something) I was like 'OH NOOOO! Now who will post stupid pictures and stupid links and bump real articles off the front page??" (Homer Simpsons sarcasm voice, quote #3). Well the answer to that sarcastic question was Laden and Myers.

Fucking leeches.

And there is no way to kick them off the network. NatGeo doesnt censor, and they dont kick people out for posting shit content. Note how Mr. 'I SHALL NOT BE CENSORED!!!' Myers made sure he had that ability at FfTB.

Abbie - that explanation makes a lot of sense for the shite-posts. Maybe the trailer park is puttin' in a cement pond and Laden has to chip in. We get paid per site hit. Myers gets a lot of hits via google on his old articles-- a shit-load more than I get producing real content. I cant tell you all how much (I dont think were allowed to talk about the contract), but Myers is making a lot more than 'beer money' from maintaining his SciBlogs blog. Before the transition, when we all had our sitemeters visible, PZs average page-view was 7-16 seconds. Mine is 2-4 minutes (though its 5 now for some reason).

Lots of hits, no depth-- or a few hits, lots of depth.

Also note how they will not link to ERV/comments at ERV/etc. Its not just about how they dont want people to see what we say/said in context. When you know the ins-and-outs of how NatGeo pays, its also an obvious move to deprive me (grad student) of income.

As it should be. I don't think anybody (even the FTBullies) can look down at merit of your science posts (which is the vast majority of the content on ERV, whether they want to mention that or not). I assume many of us felt pretty bad that the burden of hosting our grievances fell on your shoulders more than ours, so I'm glad you got some well deserved compensation for your troubles of having to put up with the likes of Laden (who in my opinion seems a bit unhinged, to say the least).

Still, I just have to say that thinking about how people like Myers and Laden got to the point where they get to enjoy a steady stream of income for putting out half-ass articles that defy all facets of common sense and reality, both baffles and slightly annoys me. Just a quick comment to say I'm still lurking, and enjoying my time a lot. The FC5 (6) have dug a grave so deep it's impossible for them to go back. And the beautiful part is we have all the evidence needed, thanks to Franc's wiki, among other sources. This wiki needs to be complemented with as many sources as possible so it can never be ignored.

I don't have a lot to add to the conversation right now, so I'll just enjoy my popcorn and check your reports on FfTB forray operations.

Let's be honest, even if you dislike Dawkins (for whatever reasons) you can't deny that his name did a lot to add to the momentum of the atheist/skeptic movement.
