Well, turns out I won't be able to donate after all. Bank account is on 'low', royalties won't arrive before february 2013, and Ali is still waiting for her new job's paycheck(2 weeks overdue). Not that I wouldn't donate if I could.

IMO, WB did the right thing with her video and donation. Benson and Zvan are reacting like idiots, but at least Greta might realise that not all those "enemies" are arseholes and are actually quite decent folks. Not holding my breath, but it might happen. And thus could start a glimmer of hope for some kind of bridge building.

As for that "dead yet" stuff, I dunno. I think if I had a terminal illness and somebody posted to me "are you dead yet?", I'd be laughing. Now, if someone who I know doesn't like me posted a tweet in general asking "is he dead yet?", well, that would bum me out a bit. I'm a bit like that Mark Wahlberg character in "Big Hit": I don't like being disliked. Doesn't mean I will get out of my way to be liked, just that I don't like it.

Bumped into a guy I do some work with occasionally, who is really not a well man. He said he just been to have his Pacemaker checked. When he asked how the tests went, the doc says "Don't buy any unripe bananas". How we laughed.

I upvoted that A+ definition because it was the truth.

Good to know that this was "activism" by their forum's definition.

Today I gave money to a kid's cancer (not in Greta's name, heh, as it was on the way to the supermarket, before I'd heard), the paralympics, and a couple of kids who showed up at my door selling chocolate for some school trip, but I think the best thing I did today for other people was this post, where I talked about how I upvoted something on the internet that means fucking sweet fuck all in the general scheme of things. FIGHT FOR THAT A+ DEFINITION ON URBAN DICTIONARY! BECAUSE IT'S IMPORTANT!!! IT'S FUCKING SOCIAL JUSTICE!!!!! YES!!!! FOR THE WYMYNSSSSS!!!!

Even my fucking lame throw-money-at-shit western slactivism doesn't compete with that kind of shit.

Maybe I should make a forum or something and start deleting posts, I want to be a hero of the oppressed too and fight those MRAs!!!

That Down Sonder person from A Plus is all over youtubes comments.
I suggested to her (i think its a her) that she might think about taking up Reaps offer of someone from A Plus going on his show and putting their point of view. She actually seems a little more coherent than most.

She replied, thanking me, saying she had never heard for Reap Paden before, but that she will check him out.
oh well - that fucks that then.

From wikipedia:
On 17 October, reports from England said that Yousufzai has come out of her coma, is responding well to treatment and has a good chance of fully recovering without any brain damage.
Something telling, and somewhat relevant to the Pyt, in the same article:
In the days following the attack, the Taliban reiterated their justification, saying Yousafzai had been brainwashed by her father, Ziauddin. “We warned him several times to stop his daughter from using dirty language against us, but he didn’t listen and forced us to take this extreme step,

The whole idea that it actually matters AT ALL which definition of the two which is in the top on urban-dictionary is just so damn ludicrous that I just wonder what kind of universe these people actually live in.

There's only two fucking definitions on the page! Anyone who actually is interested to find out wtf A+ is and finds the UD page, is going to see both! IT DOESN'T MATTER WHICH ONE IS AT THE TOP!

It's like all of these people are 15 years old and think this sort of high school bickering is actually important, and worse, they think that this and similar stuff (online petitions, "liking" crap, etc) is actually DOING something. AND, as if that wasn't enough, they actually think that this crap makes them good people, BETTER people than everyone else, cus you know, they are "fighting for social justices, against misogyny, racism and sexism!"...
I watched The Amazing Atheist's follow-up video on his Amanda Todd controversy. I don't normally watch him, but he is spot on in his analysis. These people will make a few forum/blog posts, post a comment here and there, tweet a bit, wring their hands and maybe even cry a little, and then, when THEY feel better about themselves, for proving how fucking good they are, they will forget all about it, and go right on to the next "do good" thing that comes along...

From http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... commenters
• Focus on very public complaints. I can think of exactly one time when someone emailed their concern about problematic language. These complaints seem to be always intended for an audience.

• Lack of interest in a dialogue. These complaints aren't questions or invitations to discuss the issue. They're harshly worded accusations and scoldings (which I've written about before).

• Lack of consideration for the context or intent. The focus is on this isolated incident (this one post, this one word, this one time), with de-emphasis on the author's background, experience, or the context of the website on which the post appears.
Sound familiar?

Likewise. It might be the condition, it might be the meds, but I find people quite a chore. I used to blame myself for that. Now I realise it's everyone else's fault they're arseholes. It's quite liberating actually.

From what I've seen of Urban Dictionary, a substantial proportion of the entries are schoolkids defining someone they don't like as a selection of expletives. If Wikipedia is the cesspit of lies, Urban Dictionary is the back wall of the boy's toilet of the cesspit of lies.

Oh dear, can it get any worse? I personally suffer from 2 debilitating illnesses & would not ask for a penny from anyone on the web unless i was going to DIE without it. I am tired of seeing eBegging day in day out on-line. When i see a homeless person on the street with or without addictions etc' i am happy to do whatever i can to help, i wish i could do more. Tell me again Christina, about MY privilege. ps I am NOT pitching a woe is me tale but i go AT LEAST 1 day a week without FOOD in order to stay on line, (that's my choice) i don't expect anyone's help because i'm an adult. :|

So if the first definition gets voted down, it becomes the second definition (or something)? Wha-ha-ha! WIN! True it will exceed the attention span of most of their readers to scroll down to it, but those folk will have forgotten what they were looking up by the time they click away anyhow. Unless it's a new naughty word, of course.

Prosopagnosia or face blindness. I for one was very dubious of Rebecca's claim of mild Prosopagnosia, now I am not so sure.

https://www.faceblind.org/research/
One of the telltale signs of prosopagnosia is great reliance on non-facial information such as hair, gait, clothing, voice, and other information. Prosopagnosics also sometimes have difficulty imagining the facial appearance of acquaintances. One of the most common complaints of prosopagnosics is that they have trouble following the plot of television shows and movies, because they cannot keep track of the identity of the characters.
Which leads me to wonder, is Rebecca another aspie ? (BTW Damn your spell checker Lsuoma, try typing aspie )
http://suite101.com/article/autism-aspe ... on-a110857

This does not excuse for one moment her behaviour. Not having an escort in the first place or turning a little rejection into a big deal. I am still dubious of the claim EG was close enough to hear her speaking or was even not just sitting on the background. It just means I give her claim of mild face blindness more credence.

The numbers are amusing. I've read you can vote multiple times, once per day. The a+ 'ers have been voting up their "correct" definition. It's all pretty puerile and meaningless isn't it?

Today I gave money to a kid's cancer (not in Greta's name, heh, as it was on the way to the supermarket, before I'd heard), the
Well, come to think of it, that would piss off Greta. We could all donate to a cancer fund in the name of Greta. Perhaps then the A+ers could attempt to have the American Cancer Society decline the fund because it is from misogynists!
After all, they will decline money from atheists. Would be even more ironic no?

Well of course you can live with it, because you’re pseudonymous. That makes it very easy, doesn’t it.
Nasty slug-pellet Ophelia has been bemoaning pseudonymous commentators recently, presumably on the basis that it makes them more prone to bullying.

Hasn't stopped her, Svan, Laden et al from being amongst the worst, has it? And it's precisely because of the actions of Prune's ilk that some of us do prefer to be anon. Also, the fact that this foul old bug finds it annoying only strengthens my resolve to remain pseudonymous.

My brothers and I were doing a bedside vigil around my dad when he was at the end of his battle with cancer. I remember we left mum and the girls and went for a walk along the remote and deserted beach below our parents place, shared a few cans walking barefoot on the sand, kicking at the surf, and sang that with fucking gusto. Particularly the last two lines, which we shouted.

We probably cried a bit; it was dark and we couldn't make out each others' faces except from the occasional cigarette glow. And it helped.

Oh, man (I'm short on non-gendered exclamations) how I love potato and leek soup.

Suggestion: If you're intending on eating it hot, use butter for the sauté; if cold (Phil!) then olive oil.

Make sure you let us know how the buttermilk works out, SN. Interesting, dot dot dot

I don't know how much I'll contribute here, as I tend to avoid FtB and its stomach-churning goings-on and focus on being appalled at that feminist Bizarroland, A+. I mainly hang out at Rationalia (infamously the recipient of the wrath of Pizzy Myers and his team of rabid lemmings), and know a few folks here from there, and Facebook. http://rationalia.com/forum/images/smil ... cheers.gif

Cancer's a funny thing, by JBS Haldane (Evolutionary Biologist, Polymath).
I wish I had the voice of Homer
To sing of rectal carcinoma,
Which kills a lot more chaps, in fact,
Than were bumped off when Troy was sacked.
Yet, thanks to modern surgeon’s skills,
It can be killed before it kills
Upon a scientific basis
In nineteen out of twenty cases.

I noticed I was passing blood
(Only a few drops, not a flood).
So pausing on my homeward way
From Tallahassee to Bombay
I asked a doctor, now my friend,
To peer into my hinder end,
To prove or to disprove the rumour
That I had a malignant tumour.
They pumped in BaS04.

Till I could really stand no more,
And, when sufficient had been pressed in,
They photographed my large intestine,
In order to decide the issue
They next scraped out some bits of tissue.
(Before they did so, some good pal
Had knocked me out with pentothal,
Whose action is extremely quick,
And does not leave me feeling sick.)

The microscope returned the answer
That I had certainly got cancer,
So I was wheeled into the theatre
Where holes were made to make me better.
One set is in my perineurn
Where I can feel, but can’t yet see ‘em.
Another made me like a kipper
Or female prey of Jack the Ripper,
Through this incision, I don’t doubt,
The neoplasm was taken out,
Along with colon, and lymph nodes
Where cancer cells might find abodes.
A third much smaller hole is meant
To function as a ventral vent:
So now I am like two-faced Janus
The only* god who sees his anus.

*In India there are several more
With extra faces, up to four,
But both in Brahma and in Shiva
I own myself an unbeliever.

I’ll swear, without the risk of perjury,
It was a snappy bit of surgery.
My rectum is a serious loss to me,
But I’ve a very neat colostomy,
And hope, as soon as I am able,
To make it keep a fixed time-table.

So do not wait for aches and pains
To have a surgeon mend your drains;
If he says “cancer” you’re a dunce
Unless you have it out at once,
For if you wait it’s sure to swell,
And may have progeny as well.
My final word, before I’m done,
Is “Cancer can be rather fun”.

Thanks to the nurses and Nye Bevan
The NHS is quite like heaven
Provided one confronts the tumour
With a sufficient sense of humour.
I know that cancer often kills,
But so do cars and sleeping pills;
And it can hurt one till one sweats,
So can bad teeth and unpaid debts.
A spot of laughter, I am sure,
Often accelerates one’s cure;
So let us patients do our bit
To help the surgeons make us fit.
