At the risk of committing a Pit heresy, I'll say something semi-nice about Peezer. He was a guest on the excellent YouTube channel Paulogia that he mentions, and at least in this video seems to have learned from it that a calmer, more surgical approach is more effective than his usual impotent ravings whenever religion or politics is a co-factor of the scientific subject he's discussing. I doubt it will last, though.

Yeah, the video looks like an old FPS game where you start with a weak pistol that takes 3 or 4 shots to bring down even the weakest enemy, and the game is tedious until you get the first weapon upgrade.John D wrote: ↑ People can take a few hits in the torso and not go down immediately. I seem to recall that Jesse Singal was anti-gamergate and could not be persuaded otherwise because, as it turns out he was apparently a Zoe Quinn fanboi. Which came out if 1/10 of the things Candice Owens (remember her anti-harassment debacle?) claimed about him was true.katamari Damassi wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 11:32 amScrewtape, good luck with your procedures. I came here to recommend the podcast Blocked and Reported, with Jesse Singal and Katie Herzog. Both are liberals fighting against SJWism, so of course they're being targeted for cancellation. Their podcast is currently being review bombed, so please give it a listen, and if you like it leave a positive review.

LOL. The other day, when I picked up some building materials at Home Depot, the workers pulled their masks down whenever they needed to speak to each other. I see that practically everywhere, cuz nobody can hear what anybody is saying.Service Dog wrote: ↑ Michigan is nuts.

I was in my local HD about an hour ago, and had to interact with 3 workers about various items, one as we were near where another worker was operating the saw to shorten a bunch of stock pieces. We all were wearing masks, but because we used that thing hospital workers use to communicate with each other with masks on, we had no trouble at all understanding each other.Matt Cavanaugh wrote: ↑ LOL. Just a little behind here, but those kind of excuses are familiar to anyone with some form of medical degree, and immediately tell us that we are dealing with a crazy person. No one in their right mind wants details, but just for a hint, how would ovarian cysts preclude wearing a mask? Even less, how would having a pelvic exam to find (I will charitably apply that meaning to her "for") them prevent wearing a mask?
Please, do not get me started on the wretched intricacies of anonymous chiropractors and pelvic exams. It does not compute, and that should be all.

On the other hand-- I'm not in favor of Starbucks baristas acting as death panels-- with veto power to second guess medical diagnoses.
(A baristsa whose first name is "Lenin", for CCCP-sake!)
She went on to describe the symptoms that prevent her from wearing a mask, saying “One of them I get shortness of breath, dizziness and it messes with the heartbeat. And I do have asthma as well, and I do get mask-acne. So there’s several things going on and not only that but it doesn’t even work.”
She provided ABC 10News with two documents to prove her medical exemption. One is a pelvic exam from 2015 with results that say “probable exophytic fibroid arising from the anterior wall of the uterus measuring 2.9 cm size.” and “simple 2.5 cm left ovarian cyst.” A second piece of paper is a handwritten note with letterhead from a San Diego chiropractor who she asked not be named. The hand written note reads “Amber has underlying breath conditions that prevent her from wearing a mask or any type of facial covering whatsoever. Please contact me if have any questions.”

They used border patrol plus federal prison guards in DC. Presumably, if they detained someone outside of their jurisdiction, especially without due cause one would think they are getting close to kidnapping. One argument could be that border patrol jurisdiction can go up to 100 miles from the border and because the ocean is a border DC and presumably Portland would be within their jurisdiction.Service Dog wrote: ↑Methodology questioned:free thoughtpolice wrote: ↑ Suspicious "police" in Portland were border patrol agents.

Re: You is all a bunch of poofs!
minor ancedote
This afternoon I dropped of my laundry &
walked past the empty block (just a chainlink fence & parking lot/overgrown garden)
where I keep 3 bicycles locked to a street sign.
As I neared the bikes, walking South, I stopped & turned to face them. I was in Crocs & RealTree ballcap & scruffy beard. At worst, I look like an out of shape slob. At best-- like one of the construction workers on the new highrise, off duty. I was on phone/earbuds with Fang.
An athletic black guy in his 20's approached on the wide sidewalk, walking North. No one else on our side of the street.
He wasn't very close-- I wasn't suddenly blocking his path. He was, like, 15 steps away.
Rather than alter his course slightly-- to go around me, he continued at me with both fists balled, said I was in his way, told me to move.
I stayed as I was-- kinda dragged-out my reaction like I was having trouble comprehending-- said, "This is my bicycle."
He said "I don't care" and told me to move. Went around me, kinda faced off with me, kinda kept going, muttered something.
I said, "Peace to you." He said (something like) "What? What the fuck? Fuck you. Sucking my dick."
I said, "Ewww. Gay. That's gross homo stuff." I walked perpendicular, between parked cars, crossing street toward random people in a little concrete park-- with security cameras. I did a kind of 'eww gross' walk, like I was repulsed.
He yelled 'Not homo!' as he went around the chainlink corner.
Blood was pumping. Fang was laughing in my ears.
I considered whether to unlock a bike, put on my mask, catch up with dude, & clock him with the U-lock.
I didn't consider complaining at the cop precinct-- 1 block away. Except to feel frustrated that isn't a realistic option.
After, I thought about other things I could have said. Like, "I can tell you don't have a dad."
and-- if he said he had one--'well then he must be a fag'. -- "Can I speak to him about your conduct?" lol.
Or what if I just said nothing? Or nothing except one word?-- a racial slur seems like going-along with his script.
What if all I said was "slavery" ? Annoying-- but slightly-too-weird to fathom.
Obviously I'd have to be ready to fight, with good chance of losing-- and even winning the battle could start a lose-lose-lose war.
But fully backing-down... right from the start... doesn't seem like an option. Not every time. You eventually gotta take some kinda stand.

I don't usually get my news from the murdered love interest in a Steven Seagal movie, but when I do... it's not funny.
I wasn't aware that the Planned Parenthood term for 'fetus' is "POC" -- "Product Of Conception".
And I didn't know Products Of Conception are born alive-- from botched abortions-- "once every couple of months", and left to die.
Or crushed dead. I guess it would have to have been reported-on more, for me to have heard.

Re: You is all a bunch of poofs!
'Products of conception' is standard terminology for uterine contents resulting from pregnancy that are a) not advanced enough to be called a fœtus and b) usually dead (the term is used when doing abortions because a degree of squeamishness among those who don't like to think about what they are doing). Anyone saying 'the products of conception were born alive' is exhibiting an excessive sense of delicacy and/or ignorance.
And if you want technicalities, a D&C is a diagnostic sampling of uterine lining, whereas the scraping out of the remnants of a miscarriage is an ERPC (evacuation of retained products of conception, not to be confused with an ERCP, endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatogram). Medically, all miscarriages are abortions, even the spontaneous and unwanted kind, which may be threatened (bed rest, might hang on), inevitable (Cx open, do an ERPC), incomplete (get the rest of it out) or completed (there, there, dear, you can try again). Before we got so cozy with inducing abortions at home with RU486, the majority of spontaneous abortions were 'medicalised' in that it was seen as necessary for there to be at least an exam to see if complete, and if not do an ERPC before sepsis and DIC came along to give the finishing touches to an already less than stellar experience. Now that we encourage women to abort themselves at home, we don't seem to worry about those complications as much, either because they are actually rare, or because we have a different standard of care for brazen hussies.

I agree. If he spends the rest of his days putting out calm, competent videos focusing on science and anti-theism, it would matter little. If I knew about them, I might say at least he had a graceful end to his career. But it's unlikely I would even know about them because I have no interest in listening to anything he says.MarcusAu wrote: ↑I'm not particularly big on apologies - be they forced, genuine, insincere or otherwise - but PZ ha a lot of work to put in to repair his reputation. Theoretically, if he put out an apology where he showed a true understanding of his failures, pointing out his Manichaeism, tribalism, and hypocrisy, and that his fans tended to be terrible people who reinforced and rewarded his worst characteristics and instincts, and then said he'd try to make up for it by putting out a series of videos on scientific delusions of identity politics, I probably would start paying attention.
But it's not going to happen. His post covered by Noel Plum shows all his flaws are fully intact, and he remains delusional about the reason for his irrelevancy.

It's always weird listening to a musical track that you know for a fact you haven't heard in over 30 years, and little snippets of memory start to come back at you as you remember listening to it in your youth. Second time this happened to me this week, although the other was more like 25 years, and was also a semi-novelty song.

Of course, I have no interest in the pomo word salad he uses to override basic biological facts, as I've heard it from people more eloquent than he is and it's entirely unconvincing. But it's a reminder that with PZ, politics still and always comes first.

With that in mind...
The above (by Screwtape) reads like something from nightmare - a cold, heartless, utterly detatched way of viewing life, potential life and the processes and people involved. Don't get me wrong, I fully understand that certain jobs require a completely clinical approach to the task in hand (is that an appropriate term?) and is probably a coping/defensive measure to prevent burn-out or the job grinding your emotions to a pulp but still...it always kinda freaks me out when I hear medical types talking like this.
Also, and I can't stress this enough, I mean no offense and have nothing but the highest opinion of the various fields of medicine and those who answer the calling. Both of my parents dedicated their lives to helping others (psychiatry and general medicine) and as a kid, I'd listen to them discussing stuff from their respective fields and swing from admiration to horror and back again.
I couldn't do the job - the lack of educational quals/stupidity aside, I'm too quick to form bonds with people and would be unable to maintain the detatchment (too strong a word?) and/or emotional distance required. Oh, and just to rub salt into my psychological wounds, I used to be very pro-choice - "her body, her choice" seemed to be so unassailable a philosophy, I'd struggle to find common ground with its opponents - bible bashers, traditionalists/conservatives and the "pro-life" lobby would rattle my cage whenever they started bleating on about the subject. Now, however, after years of dyed-hair harpies boasting about "abortion parties" and using abortion as a convenience, I'm not so sure.
Horrible subject and I'll probably regret posting this ill-informed 2 cents - I should probably keep my stupid opinion(s) to myself.
Again, no offense intended, my Neanderthal choice of words/expression probably didn't help.

Re: You is all a bunch of poofs!
The abortion topic is kind of un-solvable in my view. Every position is a compromise. I have been all over the map on this topic from pro-life to full term abortion as birth control. You have to spend some time living with every position to see that all views make a point.Bhurzum wrote: ↑

Re: You is all a bunch of poofs!
I'm ok with the inside of a person's body being like a sovereign country-- so each person can decide whether to abort or shoot heroin or whatever.
I'll even sign-on with that as a foundational principle-- an axiom on-which to build our entire culture & society.
But that position is at-odds with demanding other people pay for-- or perform-- your drug-treatment or abortion or other medical procedures.
So... I'm content to not pay much attention to the actual fine points of abortion itself... while having a strong opinion that Planned Parenthood have behaved like assholes & deserve whatever downfall they bring on themselves. And pink pussy hat wearers don't deserve a bail-out --after squandering their power on useless sideshow. And it's fine to exploit abortion as a political device-- to yank the chain & turn the screws on the feminist mafia.
That puts individual women-- who never abetted in bad feminist behavior-- in a lonely predicament, if they seek an abortion. But it's up to their individual will & creativity to figure-out an individual solution, recruit help, etc. Good luck. You're on your own.

Making the dubious business dealings of the candidates' ne'er-do-well children a campaign issue. What could go wrong with that?

I laugh my ass off every time Trump says: "Where's Hunter?" He says it every other day..... haha.Matt Cavanaugh wrote: ↑

Re: You is all a bunch of poofs!
Not at all. I have participated in many abortions, spontaneous and induced. I've clamped the cord of a mid-trimester spontaneous abortion before the fetus was expelled so the owner didn't have to watch the agonal breaths of the dying naked mole rat. I've helped many cross the Styx in whatever fashion and timing seemed best. And I still dislike abortions. I far prefer to prevent them with contraception, but they still manage to be needed, and I've assumed it to be my my job to take on the guilt. Thank God I'm an atheist! (Seriously, I'd be in some distress in my position if I believed in an afterlife and some form of judgement.)Bhurzum wrote: ↑ Disclaimer: I'm a mouth-breathing caveman who follows a simple protocol - Can I drink it?

And I've just shot rat #79 on the front deck. Feeding birds is fun.

You run your world your way, and I'll run mine my way. I confess my syntax was open to misinterpretation. Or maybe it was all a Freudian slip.

On the other hand the 'Do-It-Yourself' ethos of the odd-jobsperson just trying to make a go of it - can be judged by the results it produces.screwtape wrote: ↑You run your world your way, and I'll run mine my way. Speaking of SpongeBob... my friend Pat composed background music for that show...
He played on Love Shack with the B-52s, hung out with Brion Gysin & Burroughs in Paris, did the CBGBs & Max's Kansas City scene in a band with Lydia Lunch...
apparently this is him on keyboard with the Ventures in 1981...
recent stuff...
