Canals are wonderful things - I've walked the Regents Canal (which made London into an Island - sometime in the 1820's I think). Her campaign is actually and appropriately civic Toronto focused. Which rules out immigration policy.

I’m not convinced she has a pragmatic handle on dealing with the misuse of homeless shelters, though I guess the subtext is to throw the problem (literally) back at the source.

I want every homeless person in our city to have a warm bed this winter. But right now, they're being crowded out of our strained shelter system by an invasion of illegal migrants monopolizing our resources. As Mayor, I will evacuate every illegal migrant from our public housing and bus them to the front steps of the Prime Minister's official residence.

That would be a pretty direct response. :lol:

Carter's texts 'abhorrent' but were they criminal?
Under the First Amendment, speech cannot be criminalized, except in situations where the speech itself is a crime, such as hate speech or solicitation, Longwood, Florida-based First Amendment attorney Lawrence Walters told ABC News. Walters added that the prosecutors in Carter's case essentially tried to criminalize her words and speech.

Walters said that while "there's no question" that the speech used in Carter's texts was "abhorrent," there's no statute that says you can't encourage someone to commit suicide.

The ACLU said in a statement that Carter's conviction "exceeds the limits" of criminal law and "violates free speech protections by the Massachusetts and U.S. Constitutions."

Soooo close to self-awareness. I've lost count of the times I've seen him use these tropes:

The Smug Atheist: You've disproven God, now you think you're smarter than everybody.

The Atheist Sybarite: You're only an atheist so you can indulge your appetites.

The Oblivious Theist: You worship Dawkins.

There are more I can't think of right now, but I've always boggled at Peez sounding like a dyspeptic Christian since the Schism.

Peez is an atheistic messianic huckster, ever hopeful that the great flock will finally realize that he's the only route to the one true No-God. Problem is, he's totally transparent to most atheists, and most hate him. And finally, he's barking up the wrong tree; Coyne has all but proven with his surveys that atheists DON'T, in general, fit the regressive image PZ has pigeon holed them into.

He lives in la-la land.
