Does anyone honestly think that someone with enough screws loose to go on a mass killing rampage will upon not being able to get a gun, just shrug their shoulders, sigh and then decide to live a peaceful life?
No, the lunatic is going to find another way to take as many people with them as possible.
all this talk of guns and not a peep about the state ofmental health services and pass the buck parenting, school administration, social services/ police work.
I thought it was ridiculous, in the UK, when they started restricting the number of paracetamols in a packet, to something like 10, to reduce suicides. Surely you'd just go round a few shops and buy a few packs? Turns out it worked.
Then there's the 5p charge on a plazzy bags. That works too.

Things I learned:
Money burns a hole in your wallet. Don't break your large bills until you have to. Credit cards make you spend more.
I think it's pretty easy to understand that 3 day waiting periods for handguns stops a (handwaving) a significant amount of impulse violence. And that yeah, slacker lazy wannabees that find it easy to buy guns and ammo will find it much more difficult to figure out how to kill their classmates, fellow workers, if they couldn't get their hands on a gun.
There might be more cases of assholes intentionally driving through crowds and a more knife attacks in school.
I am a bit surprised that Imam Tawhidi is still alive to tell the truth. Seriously he has balls. I imagine that with a few exceptions, most have no idea how offensive he is as far as many muslims are concerned. Shia, Sunni, especially the Salafis and their ilk.

That's because quite a proportion of suicide attempts are on the emotional spur of the moment/unplanned and people raid the bathroom cabinet
with whatever they can find. So if they are limited to a packet when buying sober but take the lot, it at least limits the possible damage they
can do and the chance of recovery when emergency services get involved.
Of course if you are determined and premeditated enough to go to several different stores and stock up to do yourself in, there's nothing to stop
you doing that. But many people don't have a deliberate plan.

There's been a bit of concern in some secular circles about this remark by the judge saying It's no place for a judge in a secular court to make pronouncements or interpretations on religious text . What next? Sharia law?

Yeah, that's VERY stupid, and completely unneeded. The judge shouldn't have said anything about any "true islam" or bullshit like that. Theology should have no place in judicial decisions. Beside I'm pretty sure that the terrorist recruiter could cite a lot of Qu'ran verses and citations from ahadith to support his case, so who's to say what's the "real" islam? (Answer: no one, because there's no "real" islam, it's a matter of interpretations).
This looks like pandering, and it's not as clever as the judge thinks it is.
I haven't seen the guy's work; I only know him for being an anti-free speech comedian who calls women cunts, but tells you not to use the word cunt. The Pie guy (I'm not familiar with his work, either) seems like my cup of tea, innit.

Is it just my imagination or does the Labour Party in Britain have a problem with antisemitism?
They had an intensive internal inquiry and found no evidence at all and the woman who said so a Mzzzzzz Shami Chakrabarti (former Chair of Liberty) was made a Baroness and given a nice furry robe to wear in the house of lords.
From Wikipedia
The Chakrabarti Inquiry was published in June 2016 and concluded that Labour was "not overrun by anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, or other forms of racism," despite an "occasionally toxic atmosphere"
This came about after former Labour MP & Mayor of London Ken Livingstone was suspended from the party after saying
"Adolf Hitler was supporting Zionism before he went mad and ended up killing six million Jews"
Now Dear Leader Corbyn (Hamas & Hezbollah are his friends) has been exposed as supposedly belonging to an anti-semitic facebook group, he then praised an anti-semitic mural and has now come out and apologised for Labour having "pockets of anti-semititism within the party"
So in answer, absolutely NOT. No anti-semitism here thank you very much.
She has a point about too many Finns: it's getting harder and harder to maintain the required personal space. Can't see how mass immigration would help, though.

Jonathan Pie is very much on the left. He's far to the left of Bernie Sanders, in some respects. He's a self-described socialist who has supported Jeremy Corbyn, is very anti-austerity, anti-corporate politics, pro-working class.
He's simply not a SJW. Yes, leftists who aren't SJWs exist, even though the SJWs are trying their best to smear them as Nazis.

I know you're being sarcastic here, but even the part of the Qu'ran you want to mock is actually, well, let's say "problematic":
Qu'ran, Sura 5, verse 42 wrote:Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land- it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors.
The part in bold is, like all texts produced by all men in all of history, open to interpretations, and if one can have enough willpower and strength of fantasy to ignore the worst parts of the Qu'ran and/or reinterpret them, then surely they can spin this verse in a positive way.
But if we take things as literally as possible, what the hell is being translated in English as "corruption"? Well, he word used in the original Arabic is فساد /fasād/, from the root F-S-D. This word is also used other times in the Qu'ran, for example in the next verse (sura 5, verse 22):
Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment,
Yikes. Not so eager to protect the lives of those who commit "fasād", aren't we?
So who commits "fasād", then? Well, according to Sura 5, verse 64, it's (surprise, surprise) Ze Eeevil Jewz:
And the Jews say, "The hand of Allah is chained." Chained are their hands, and cursed are they for what they say. Rather, both His hands are extended; He spends however He wills. And that which has been revealed to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in transgression and disbelief. And We have cast among them animosity and hatred until the Day of Resurrection. Every time they kindled the fire of war [against you], Allah extinguished it. And they strive throughout the land [causing] corruption, and Allah does not like corrupters.
"Corruption" is, once again, the root f-s-d, this time declined as "fasādan" (the same word as before, only in accusative form). So Ze Nasty Jewz are full of "corruption", and saving them isn't like saving all of humanity, while killing them is not like killing all of humanity. Instead, according to 5, 33, they should be crucified, or, if one is in a good mood I guess, exiled.
But it's not just Ze Nasty Jewz who are spreading "corruption" and so are fair game (or even potentially destined to the cross or exile), as the verses 8- 12 of Sura 2 specify:
And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day," but they are not believers. In their hearts is disease, so Allah has increased their disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie.And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are but reformers." Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not.
The words here are tuf'sidū and l-muf'sidūna, respectively the second person masculine plural in the jussive mood (used to give orders) with an attached subject pronoun, and the active participle at its nominative masculine plural form, both from a verbal form of the SAME root F-S-D.
So who are the "corrupters", this time? Well, the "false believers", which include the "reformers", but also may include people whose faith is questioned, or the Christians. So they're also not included in the idea that their lives being saved are like saving the world, and their lives being ended are like ending the world.
Who IS included in the "universal" solidarity, in the supreme value given to their lives and souls? Well, the "good believers", the "good muslims", of course, the "ummah".
Basically "he who saves one life, saves all lives" can have MANY interpretations if one wants to. But within context, its meaning is clearly restricted to the "good muslims", the "community of believers". It's a message against sectarianism and division (not that it worked) not the proclamation of an universal morality, which wouldn't fit the rest of the messages of the Qu'ran anyway.
I'm all for people creatively interpreting the Qu'ran through the lenses of a modern, humanistic world view. I'm all for islam to modernize, to throw out the bathwater and keep the baby, for those who are interested in the "baby" of "cultural islam" and "community life" anyway (I'm not). The problem is that the Qu'ran itself is against this, and calls any reform "corruption". That's not a good start, not at all.
Also conservative, literalist imams should stop spreading the lie that the Qu'ran is already about considering one innocent person's life as worthy as the entire world, because, well, the Qu'ran is not really about that, not if taken literally at least.
I know you're being sarcastic here, but even the part of the Qu'ran you want to mock is actually, well, let's say "problematic":
I know. How do you stop their eyes from glazing over when you bring up that the doctrine of islam changed as soon as Mo got political power and the Cat Stevens stoned sufi type of islam switches to jihad as soon they get it too.

It's worth pointing out the distinction between a plan to reduce gun violence and would that would eliminate it. It seems as though any plan that falls anywhere short of a miraculous 100% reduction is deemed "not good enough."
This as has been pointed out earlier is very bad long term strategy for pro-gun side. Refusal to make any serious concessions or compromises means that when public sentiment finally pivots hard enough, there won't be any bargaining.

I think congress should pass a law that requires a person to be 21 years old to buy a semi-automatic gun. Then the NRA can file a lawsuit. Lower courts will either stay the law or let in go into effect depending on the political leaning of the particular judge. Then the NRA will file appeals and it will wend it's way eventually to the Supreme Court where the law will get struck down. This whole process will take about two years so all the radicals on the left and right will have something to occupy their time. This will give the rest of us time to relax.
And regarding suicide reduction... it is hard for me to see how and gun control measure would make any difference in the US. The only way to reduce the number of guns in the US is through the most draconian of gun laws which will never pass (and would be unconstitutional with the current court). Certainly, things like raising age limits or magazine size or semi-auto style guns will only tap at the margins of what gun people choose. It will not reduce gun use or purchases.
While I am sympathetic to the idea that some suicides would be prevented if there were fewer guns, I just can see a way to pass any laws in the US that would be effective. For example, if we restrict the purchase of a semi-auto to anyone over 21, an 18 year old will just buy a cheap Ruger revolver as his first gun. They are cheap, reliable and fun to shoot.... and they are also an excellent choice for suicide.
Ironic really that one of the few UK members of the 'entertainment' industry I'm aware of that has actually spoken up in support of Dankula's free speech rights has been David Baddiel, a Jew. The rest of the virtue signalling shower of wankers have either kept shtum or are in some kind of competition to see which one can get their tongue furthest up the Social Justice shitter.
Didn't he present that Mock the Week thingy, which had Frankie Boyle on......making jokes about how the Queen's pussy was haunted, and how Rebecca Adlington's face looked like she was looking at the back of a spoon?
Of course, that was before they became "woke", and MtW is now rather cringe and unfunny, and only ever "punches upwards". Boyle writes far left propaganda for the Guardian (i.e. how Israel/the Tories are really bad), just hoping that this will hide the fact he's said some pretty horrible stuff about disabled children in the past. Seems to have worked - many on the left now love Boyle.
This is a familiar pattern trod by the likes of Werleman and Arel. Got a "problematic" past? Simply become full-tankie or full SJW Nazi puncher. All is forgiven.
Still trying to figure out which speakers are worth seeing live...
Just checked the speaking line-up. Not impressed, but then again, there are a few there that I have never heard off.
Interestingly, Silverman has recently started to virtue signal with the SJWs to try and save his career, and make amends after his treacherous moment of insanity where he reached out to Republican atheists.
Seth has unwittingly drawn the ire of the SJWs by not quite calling enough centrists and liberals, "Nazis". Oh, and he wasn't quite hard enough on Krauss. Then again, when he pulled out of MythCon because of Shives, Arel, and Winters, he was mortally wounded, and the SJWs now smell his blood. I saw that a mile off.
Then, there is "the Sci Babe", who once publically attacked a conference for listing her as "the Sci Babe", even though another speaker was listed by their nickname, and she listed herself as "the sci babe" virtually everywhere.
I haven't seen the guy's work; I only know him for being an anti-free speech comedian who calls women cunts, but tells you not to use the word cunt.

Am often reminded of a cutting in Fortean Times or somewhere , a decade or more ago.
Report went something like:
A middle aged man presents with sudden onset of severe head aches. Docs investigate with X ray.
Find Nail embedded in man's skull which is obvious cause of discomfort.
Man then recalls, as a youth, he once attempted suicide by nail gun and it seems put the incident out of his head (unlike the nail).
