IIRC, he did initially say the gender wage gap "isn't real". He meant, of course, it isn't really due to sex discrimination.

You almost got it right with #2.
You lash out just once. A slap or a punch will do, or you can throw something. Then you start shouting. Not screaming of sobbing hysterically, but shouting something like, "Who the fuck do you think you are that you can put your hands on me?" Then wait for an answer.

You will likely get a response like, "Jeez, I was just messing about. It's just a joke, calm down you fucking banshee". Don't expect an apology, but don't push the issue. Move on.

Job done, nobody in earshot is going to try that again. I have never had to do this, but that's probably because anybody who knows me would expect this or worse. Flirting, telling dirty jokes, double entendres, casual racism, practical jokes, even some boob grabbing and arse slapping on the other hand are things I am quite happy to engage with. Character building stuff.

Why should your right to freedom of speech trump a trans person’s right not to be offended?
I was kinda hoping he'd remind that sexually-frustrated bint that there exists no right to not be offended.

So some part of the net thinks this song IS creepy. Rocker dude talking to young girl, she is flirting with him, and ooh creepy. But mostly what he is doing is acknowledging she is growing up now, but is still too young, does your mother know you're here. How is that creepy?

Well, we're in the new Victorian Age I guess. Can't wait till the sexual revolution is rebooted.
Interesting. It seems that the take of the people finding this creepy assume the girl in the story is jailbait.
My take was that she was too young for him because "does your mother know you are out" was a colloquialism used in the 70s and 80s which didn't have anything to do with age -- although ABBA were often accused of taking the English language a bit too literally. For example, it's in one of the Sweeney movies, a girl who is in her mid to late twenties crosses the road, she has large breasts and a tight sweater. One of the coppers says something like, "Do you think her mother knows she is out dressed like that?".

I wonder what they think of these songs which are far worse than ABBA's outright rejection of the girl?

There are definitely some criminal fashion choices here. But this song from a self confessed wife beater is far more creepy...

I've never seen Firestarter.

I've never understood the fuss about Shawshank Redemption. It's not a bad movie by any means but I don't understand the adoration it gets, like it's the best movie ever.
Cuz Morgan Freeman narrates it. Morgan Freeman could narrate a clip of a bunch of mealy worms crawling around on a plate, and it would be up for an Oscar.

A gal like that like that will often marry a lump of dough like him, especially if her dad was an unpredictable alcoholic. But check ten years down the road, and she's so sick to death of his terminal cuckyness and inability to bring her to orgasm or perform basic auto repair, she's sleeping with her riding instructor.

Or so I've been told.

IIRC, he did initially say the gender wage gap "isn't real". He meant, of course, it isn't really due to sex discrimination.
That was the exact bit i wanted to clarify because later he says :
Peterson: Oh definitely! There’s that. But I also didn’t deny it existed. I denied it existed, because of gender!
Newman: Okay.
Peterson: Because I’m very, very, very careful with my words.
but if we go back to this said previously:
Newman: So it seems to a lot of women, that they still being “dominated and excluded” to quote your words back to you.

Peterson: It does seem that way, but multivariate analysis [3] of the pay gap indicate that it doesn’t exist.
Newman: But that is not true, is it? I mean, that nine percent pay gap! That’s a gap between median hourly earnings between men and women!
So what "doesnt exist"? according to Peterson, it is the "Pay Gap". He didnt say it but by implication it is the gender gap as believed by Newman et al.
So he did and didn't deny it existed.

Sorry should have added the next bit:
Peterson: Yeah, but there’s multiple reasons for that. One of them is gender, but it’s not the only reason. If you’re a social scientist worth your salt, you never do a univariate analysis. Like you say, well women in aggregate are paid less than men. Okay, well then we break it down by age, we break it down by occupation, we break it down by interest, we break it down by personality.

I'm not kidding, my 16 year old daughter acted much like this for 3 hours last night after we cut off her internet access because she didn't wash up, we actually discussed having her sectioned but it's an act. To her it's about internet access and washing up, to us it is about teaching her to act like an adult. She can't win, but she is not ready to back down just yet. It has been going on for months.

I don't know where it comes from. I am sure you know I have never put up with this shit, her school doesn't tolerate it either. Was there a memo that went around this generation that told them to scream, shout and cry until they get their own way in face of all rational argument?
"Washing up"

What is that? A Shower? A bath? Washing your hands before dinner? Doing the dishes?

In any case, that is a sad state for a 16 year old. You only have a couple more years where you have the control to make her grow up. I'd shove her prissy ass on a month long adventure backpacking trip to learn some responsibility. It is a shame they don't make a more rough & tumble version of boyscouts for girls.
It's doing dishes.

I didn't think about it until now because there is nothing political about by daughter, but she is copying all the tactics of the SJWs, when she isn't acting like triggerlypuff she is acting like smugglypuff. When my husband argues with her, she essentially accuses him of being the evil oppressor and runs away, refusing to have the argument. All the elements of SJWism are there.
Of course, what you're describing is childish behaviour, which SJWism is a branch of.

Most of the people practicing it have essentially comfortable lives, but need to blame something for their perceived shortcomings. Hey presto, a ready-made ideology where nothing is your fault and there's a magic pecking order you can place yourself on.

I fully expect that sooner or later Christian fundies will try this argument to support "teaching the controversy" or blasphemy laws. The muslim apologists are already doing it.

This is what happens when words are used to mean anything.

Gender
Pay
Gap

First off, it should be "sex", not "gender".
Second, it is only about wages, not overall compensation or benefits.
Third, it is a difference or disparity. Calling it a "gap" passes a subjective moral judgment.

Peterson obviously was thinking no gender-bias gap exists. I admit it's hard to stay on point when a belligerent but not terribly smart ideologue is rapid-firing dogmatic talking points at you, but this was one rare instance when he was not very careful with his words.

I don't know why I can't make a million dollars a year as political advisor for hire. For $50000 I could have told Hillary, that Grammy thing, don't do it.
And the 'spiritual advisor' who wrote that creepy creepy email to a staff member and was in many other ways creepy as fuck to her, fire the fucker.

That's about $50000 worth of advice for 1 minutes worth of work.

snl had a skit the Mary Sue didn't like, about creepy songs

viewtopic.php?f=31&t=536&start=1920#p454831

It mentioned two songs that aren't creepy at all
I couldn’t decide where I landed on this one, so I’m curious to see what you all thought. When I first watched it, I really enjoyed the premise and the way it captured the “surprise” of realizing that some old songs are way creepier than you remembered. It felt very realistic, like the first time you realize that the lyrics of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” take a super-predatory turn, or when you find out ABBA wrote a song called, “Does Your Mother Know.” But there’s something inherently uncomfortable about making a jaunty punch line out of … well, abuse. I watched the skit twice, and I felt differently about it each time.

Do you know who else thought " Baby It's Cold outside" was evil? That would father of the modern islamist movement Sayyid Qutb.
https://www.theatlantic.com/daily-dish/ ... ca/231305/
The dance began after an evening service, and was led by the church's pastor, who, according to Qutb's breathless account, lowered the lights and put a recording of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" on the turntable in an effort to get the few remaining wallflowers out on the dance floor. "The dance hall convulsed to the tunes on the gramophone and was full of bounding feet and seductive legs," Qutb later wrote. "Arms circled waists, lips met lips, chests met chests, and the atmosphere was full of passion."
The new puritan SJWs and the conservative have so much in common. No wonder they seem to have formed an alliance.

Peezle weighs in on the current Jordan Peterson craze (gotta get them clicks, boi!)
Jordan Peterson is mystifying. He’s a boring, tendentious, unoriginal authoritarian who gets most everything wrong. He’s not an atheist, as the following clips show, so why do atheists pay attention to him?
Aside from the atheist bit, Peez describes himself to a tee. No wonder the fat beard is mystified, considering his own fanbase comprises an ever diminishing audience of troubled fuckwits. Even Nerd of Redhead seems bored with him these days.
He has written a book, 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos (of course a conservative book is all about arbitrary rules), which gets savagely reviewed.
Ooh - it gets savagely reviewed by...oh, someone behind a paywall. Well, that surely must make up for the fact that Peterson's book is an international bestseller, while Peez's 'The Happy Atheist' remains notable only for getting a puff piece by Greg Laden, which made it abundantly clear that Greg actually hadn't read it. Well done, Greg!
Apparently, the secret to success is to appeal to the vast audience of male lobsters.
I dunno. Appealing to bottom-feeders hasn't done your career any favours, has it, you hopeless stump of a human. Enjoy your continued e-begging campaign in the face of a lawsuit from an oversexed hobbit, Peez; I'm sure you feel it's all worth it.

Maybe this is what islam apologists mean when they say that islam is the most feminist religion. If by feminism you mean authoritarian control over sexuality, censorship of "offensive" art and making people feel guilty for things that don't harm anyone, for the sake of controlling their thoughts then yes, islam is pretty feminist. Andrea Dworkin could have exchanged notes with Ayatollah Khomeini: both were in favor of sex with children anyway.

For the "everyone we don't like is a white supremacist" series, now it's the turn of the New York Times to be accused of being a "white supremacist newspaper".
Over the weekend, St. Louis writer and "scholar of authoritarian states" Sarah Kendzior caused a stir by asserting that it was no longer possible to deny that The New York Times is "now a white supremacist paper." Kendzior herself had shared an article from the Times just a few hours earlier, but in light of a Saturday op-ed by columnist Ross Douthat she was now urging people to "#Unsubscribe".
Interestingly in a few hours a newspaper can turn from a source of information useful enough to make you share into a white supremacist paper. It just needs an op-ed you don't like.

Egregious scholarship on authoritarian states, though perhaps not in the way Kendzior thinks.

The far left or at least a lot of them haven't liked papers like the NY Times because they aren't left enough and are all big and corporate. The far right conservatives hate them and think they are unpatriotic pinkos. Oddly both sides seem to really buy into RT and Sputnik as reliable as MSM or even more so.
You get right wing cranks like Alex Jones and marxist SJWs like Marcus Ranum or Mano Singham agreeing on something.

Horseshoe theory?

Also it's baffling that a lot of people seem to think Al-Jazeera is any better than RT, but that's another story (and most people don't know about the more awful and bizarre stuff that only appear on the Arabic version of Al-Jazeera anyway).

You can hear the pitchforks being picked up, already......
Anyway, I think Diane's career is largly over, these days. So it is safe for her (career wise) to publicly state this. All those young actresses who eagerly worked with Allen in recent years, but now suddenly believe he is a rapist, or something, have to, for the sake of their careers, must PUBLICLY DENOUNCE.

Fifty years from now, which version of "Baby it's cold outside" will drunk, horny people be listening to on Christmas, the SJW version, or the boozy, avaricious Dean Martin version?

I rest my case.

SJW response, something about lobsters. With Michael Nugent and his online rape chamber website it was sea lions.

Why do SJW's hate marine animals?

Two Christmases from now, Liza Lydia will be on tour. Josiah will be home making handmade cards and decorating the tree with a quinoa garland while listening to the CD, "Have Yourself A Very PC Christmas". Josiah and Liza will text "I love you Piglet!" and "I love you too, Pooh!". Then Liza will go backstage to suck the fat cock of the drummer from the metal band she's opening for.

"Everyone talks about Silicon Valley as a meritocracy, I see it as a mirror-tocracy, meaning white guys look at each other and hire each other, essentially. What — where are we on this and what do you think needs to happen?" Swisher asked.

To which Wojcicki replied, "I think the problem is, is that computer science as a whole and tech as a whole has a reputation of being a very geeky male industry. And so if you look, not within the industry, but just as an educational pipeline, you see that we only have 20 percent of women graduating with computer science degrees, and that’s a problem in and of itself, because that means we don’t have enough people graduating who have those degrees. And you say, well, why is that? I think it has to do with these perceptions that the computer industry is, a geeky, not very interesting, not social industries, and it just couldn’t be further from the truth."

Swisher interrupted Wojcicki with a brief, "Come on." And later, "I'm going to — I'm going to disagree with you [on] that strongly."
Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who also participated in the town hall event, answered that question by saying, "Really important, you can change this. Ever since Susan started running at YouTube, the percentage of women at YouTube has increased significantly. Why do you think that is?"

Pichai's response implies that an easy solution for tech companies is to hire and promote more female executives. Yes, that's a great thing to do, but again, it's a disappointing answer in that it lets male executives off the hook — Pichai's answer makes it seem like the responsibility to recruit women falls on only other women, that men in power cannot inspire women to work on their team.

As Swisher pressed, men in power must work to address the issue too.

"Because she’s a woman, but why can't men do it?" Swisher asked.

Pichai responded, "But I'm saying the representation matters. Right, so the way you solve this is by increasing the percentage of women in the tech industry. So, we need to make the environment more welcoming, we need to make the jobs more interesting."

It's unclear what changes Pichai wants here, as in whether the actual job of being an engineer or working at a tech company needs to be changed or whether they can just write a new job description that will better attract more women. Research has shown more inclusive language can change results.

In the conversation, Pichai noted the differences between what women look for in jobs and men.

"Women typically look for jobs with a purpose. Studies show that. I think it’s important for them to see the why of why you need to need technology," Pichai continued.

That's true. Studies have shown that, including the 2015 global Management Education Graduate Survey.

The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them… To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just as long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies—all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. For by using the word one admits that one is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink one erases this knowledge; and so on indefinitely, with the lie always one leap ahead of the truth

The new Hitchens is a pale shadow of the old one. The old one had a sizeable pair of man conkers on him. Despite Murray being good on some very topical contemporary issues, I think he may be a little less than inciteful with regard to some of his conservative friends. Delingpole for instance. I like Murray. No Hitchens though.

I like listening to Peterson because he is observably careful in his conclusions on most things. He admits when he has not thought through something. You will learn a lot by listening to him. His weakness IMO is that he is a bit if a significance junkie. He just has to find the grand, timeless significance in everything which gets a bit much sometimes. His manner of speech is very spergy. He can't say anything without qualifying it to death and covering all the exceptions and special cases. Charitably, you could say he was just trying to head off the expected misinterpretations.

They have the right to be as backward as they wish. Still not an excuse to to have their land off them. A moot point hundreds of years after the fact, though. It isn't as though there is any chance of them going back. From what I know of indigenous tribes in general the degeneracy they display results largely from the breakdown of old tribal structures. There are many psychological benefits to living in a close-knit tribal community with a simple lifestyle. I don't doubt that for a healthy individual the traditional lifestyle was very fulfilling and perhaps idyllic. However, once introduced to modern medicine and technology that kind of society is doomed even without colonisation. Whatever the drawbacks, the baubles are too shiny.
A couple of hundred years ago it was eminently natural to relieve the natives of “their land” such as native title was back then.

God knows why or how Australian natives failed to follow their New Zealand equivalents into grudging respect. Probably something to do with not defending their interests.

Once the Aboriginals registered, it’s been a never ending charity expo with predictable results.

In general we have a classic runaway Stefan Molyneux scenario. Most Abos can simply get more from the govt than they can via their own initiatives. By a long shot. And it’s not like there isn’t a whole industry of diversity slots open to those who want them. It’s a standard question on any employment application “Are you of aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage?”

And it’s not like there aren’t ethno state alternatives - of apparently limited appeal.

But the fucked up problems self reinforce (see the “NT intervention”. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norther ... y_Response

Which is a tragedy until it escalates to govt teat suckers issuing calls to burn the nation down. Then it transfigures into a dangerous cancer.
