A software engineer’s 10-page screed against Google’s diversity initiatives is going viral inside the company, being shared on an internal meme network and Google+. The document’s existence was first reported by Motherboard, and Gizmodo has obtained it in full.

In the memo, which is the personal opinion of a male Google employee and is titled “Google’s Ideological Echo Chamber,” the author argues that women are underrepresented in tech not because they face bias and discrimination in the workplace, but because of inherent psychological differences between men and women. “We need to stop assuming that gender gaps imply sexism,” he writes, going on to argue that Google’s educational programs for young women may be misguided.

The post comes as Google battles a wage discrimination investigation by the US Department of Labor, which has found that Google routinely pays women less than men in comparable roles.

Gizmodo has reached out to Google for comment on the memo and how the company is addressing employee concerns regarding its content. We will update this article if we hear back.

Reply to public response and misrepresentation

I value diversity and inclusion, am not denying that sexism exists, and don’t endorse using stereotypes. When addressing the gap in representation in the population, we need to look at population level differences in distributions. If we can’t have an honest discussion about this, then we can never truly solve the problem. Psychological safety is built on mutual respect and acceptance, but unfortunately our culture of shaming and misrepresentation is disrespectful and unaccepting of anyone outside its echo chamber. Despite what the public response seems to have been, I’ve gotten many personal messages from fellow Googlers expressing their gratitude for bringing up these very important issues which they agree with but would never have the courage to say or defend because of our shaming culture and the possibility of being fired. This needs to change.

TL:DR

Google’s political bias has equated the freedom from offense with psychological safety, but shaming into silence is the antithesis of psychological safety.

This silencing has created an ideological echo chamber where some ideas are too sacred to be honestly discussed.

The lack of discussion fosters the most extreme and authoritarian elements of this ideology.

Extreme: all disparities in representation are due to oppression

Authoritarian: we should discriminate to correct for this oppression

Differences in distributions of traits between men and women may in part explain why we don’t have 50% representation of women in tech and leadership. Discrimination to reach equal representation is unfair, divisive, and bad for business.

Reading the whole thing and it's hard to think of this guy as the nutter, alt-right, mgtow, mra, sociopath he is being made out to be, OR that this document is the horribly nasty document that should get him fired.

It does have a lot of phrases in it guaranteed to set off the sanctimonious social justice set.

Bottom line, the company my friend works at is now the best company in the world for fixing 737's. The PC airline company? LOL! Inspired by that clip a few pages back, I just watched The Big Sleep in its entirety. One interesting thing I noticed about it, as a reflection of the current political climate, is how tough the women are, how really strongly drawn as characters. Those women aren't pussies, and they're not damsels.

Also noticeable is the flirting - the expert flirting - that goes on, from both sexes.

And the fact that people seem to be having a lot of casual sex, but nobody's making a big deal out of it.

And people talked differently in the past, more smarter.

First up is Vox: If you want to know how the alt-right upended American politics, read Kill All Normies

Vox? Those waking buckets of slime!!! How can I recommend something from Vox? Simple, in this case it is an interview. Read this first.

(For those of you who want to know what the problem is with Vox, read this :Charles Murray is once again peddling junk science about race and IQ. Agenda much? OK so the headline has poisoned the well, as well as smearing Murray. Now read the article. Basically they agree with Murray. Yep. Go on and read it. See for yourself. Do not take my word on it.

Next: From National Review (they are kind of bemused and amused and somehow I get the impression they think that this a passing fad) : The Kids Are Alt-Right

It is partly such a mindset that Angela Nagle, in her new book Kill All Normies, says the multifarious alt-right is defining itself against. Nagle’s delightfully short treatment of this movement is stuffed with charming asides, the most endearing of which asserts her openness to the possibility that her tour through the “ironical in-jokey maze of meaning” created by the right-wing activists may document nothing more than a strange and passing moment.

They were, after all, preoccupied with online infighting as a means of desperately performing their wokeness while they could’ve been standing guard against the alt-right’s burgeoning extremism.

Though she says she’s optimistic for the left’s future — should people begin abandoning and speaking out against this small but vocal and surprisingly vengeful sect — there’s no questioning the fact that undoing the now-inflated and emboldened alt-right will be as challenging as it is critical.

Next up. NYMag The Unflattering Familiarity of the Alt-Right in Angela Nagle’s Kill All Normies with some quotes (not necessarily in sequence so you have to read the article to figure it out). BTW. I hardly ever bother to read them these days. I usually have better things to do with my time.

She writes in her conclusion that the left’s “embarrassing and toxic online politics” have made it “a laughing stock for a whole new generation” — a dynamic typified by the recent student protests at Evergreen State, which, to outsiders at least, look totally insane.

Nagle suspects — rightly in my view — that the real damage of the “Tumblrization of left-politics” may have been to spur a “brain drain from the left,” as people fled from a political brand increasingly associated with hysteria, witch-hunting, and intolerance of dissent.

Nagle’s origin story here will be familiar to people who have followed the alt-right — Rosie Gray, David Auerbach, and others have long pinpointed its debt to chan and Reddit culture. Yet more than most writers on this issue, Nagle’s account of the alt-right puts a heavy emphasis on the extent to which it emerged alongside, and defined itself in opposition to, an analogous left-wing subculture that over the last five years came to exert a powerful influence in online political discourse. This subculture, which Nagle calls “Tumblr liberalism” but whose members are better known by the pejorative term “social justice warriors,” developed on Tumblr, social media, and in certain sections of the academy before spilling out into the mainstream during the late Obama years, thanks in part to signal boosts from websites like Salon, Upworthy, and BuzzFeed. Nagle’s book is as much a polemic against the unforced errors committed by this brand of left politics as it is an assault on the new right, which, for the unconverted at any rate, tends to discredit itself.

Someone threw an Improvised Explosive Device through a window in Bloomington yesterday. Police are baffled.

I have some theories on IQ which are that immigrants (unless they were forced or dragged into immigration) are always going to have IQs higher than the general population because, you know, there's a bar to get in - one person has to have the smarts to build resources, travel overseas, and strive for excellence, while the other person just needs a mother who knows how to squat and push.
