I think you are right, it does seem like establishing a clear path, assuming one even exists, between Trump himself and Russian influence could be tough. I wonder what, if anything, US intelligence services found out about what DT's campaign was doing and just how hubristic Trump and senior advisers were. It is pretty clear that he lacks good judgement and self-control in some critical areas.

It's possible they really were that reckless and if there are charges related to covering-up non-collusion then Trump's own intemperate Tweets and statements are likely to contribute.

The other area that might trip him up is that Mueller has carte blanche to file charges around any other illegal acts that come to light during the investigation. There's some evidence to suggest DT may have been involved in some fairly questionable financing deals with Russian entities. It's possible he will get dinged on that, if they can show that he approved anything illegal. I think that's kind of likely because he clearly doesn't feel like rules apply to him in quite the same way as they do to the rest of us. After all,Trump did say that if Mueller investigated his family's finances then Trump would consider firing him. Which seems like a really dumb thing to say unless he was serving it up as a red herring. I think it is more to do with the fact that his brain lacks filters and his ego is legendary-tier.
