This video is priceless - it's like the rap version of "Storm" by Tim Minchen. A post-sex pillow talk session turns into a series of mini-rants about aliens, war and god. Very amusing in places...

This guy disrupts Yvette Falarca and her lackeys during a press conference. He's pretty good, doesn't get knocked off his stride, and has them looking distraught about some shouty bozo invading their space for a change.

Fucking unbelievable. The Archbishop of Canterbury has criticised the way the BBC handled sexual abuse by Jimmy Savile.
The Most Rev Justin Welby said the BBC had not shown the same integrity over accusations of child abuse that the Catholic and Anglican churches had.

Puerto Rico update:
As I predicted ‘We Can’t Find Them’: Puerto Rico Low On Drivers To Deliver Supplies
Actually I said nothing about missing truck drivers. But yes, logistics will be an ongoing issue. Right now supplies are piling up at the port. Not enough drivers for the trucks to transport them all for distribution.
https://cdn.theatlantic.com/assets/medi ... n_1200.jpg
Even if you had enough drivers, delivery locations will be confined to where they can actually be delivered. Many/most roads are impassible and need to be cleared.
https://cdn.theatlantic.com/assets/medi ... n_1200.jpg
This means the capitol city and immediate areas for now.
https://cdn.theatlantic.com/assets/medi ... n_1200.jpg
What they need right now are lots of large cargo carrying helicopters to service areas unreachable by road.
https://cdn.theatlantic.com/assets/medi ... n_1200.jpg
There is going to be issues with turning the power back on, because that infrastructure has been destroyed also.
https://cdn.theatlantic.com/assets/medi ... n_1200.jpg
Only six people dead so far. That is pretty good all thing considering that many people probably wish they were dead, and I suspect that many more will die in the coming months.
Disease will play a part.
https://cdn.theatlantic.com/assets/medi ... n_1200.jpg
Trump will be blamed of course. Does not matter how many resources will be committed. Trump will be blamed.

I thought outrageous thought experiments, a la Sam Harris, were not appropriate vehicles to make moral statements.
Second, and as usual, any post at Pharyngula about misogyny is basically wall to wall man hate, the irony.
Third: It's a fucking story man! Get over it. This was 1958, the height of the scifi morality play, you know, Twilight Zone and all that. How can you be sure it wasn't MEANT to be a shock morality piece. Since the denouement literally takes place in the last two sentences of the story, you think it just might be? Duh.

The post apocalyptic Harlan Ellison's A Boy And His Dog, involves kidnapping a male and turning him into a sperm factory.
And of course Shirley Jackson's The Lottery is a modern day story set in semi contemporary times about a volcano virgin.
These are not instruction manuals, neither is 1984, no matter how much PZ insists it is.

I don't understand why all the rage over Kaepernick and the other kneeling football players. To me it seems like a fairly mild form protest and their point is relatively less zany than most of the things the left is saying. IMO this toon just makes Ben Garrison look nutty. I have laboriously digitised all my VHS, LaserDisk and DVD movies so I don't worry about ferric oxide too much* any more. Boxing Helena is an underrated movie, mostly because anything with Julian Sands in it is worth watching, and also because of the lawsuit directed at Kim Basinger when she pulled out (a woman pulling out - yay for equality!), but mostly because it is a worthwhile story. It's one of those movies that sounds like trash, ought to be trash, but is actually worth watching.Ape+lust wrote: Peez showboats his virtue more than any teenage Tumblrite. Burn all men? *I never threw away any of my compact cassettes. Having brought my 1991 Miata back from the dead (which has a cassette player but no CD player), and since Mrs Dr Screwtape is now having the wide excision of her melanoma the week after next, we can still attempt the Cabot Trail this coming week in the 26 year old Miata. I have to carefully balance what I want (Steely Dan, Supertramp, Moody Blues (fuck you), Fairport Convention, prog rock classics) - with what she might want, along with what will actually fit in the tiny armrest console. No doubt we will agree on the Ring Cycle and one hopes that if there is a fiery crash, we have got to the culmination of Gotterdammerung to put it out. Jordan Peterson could probably make a whole series of videos on the choices involved and how they reflected the views of Nietzsche and the mythic underpinnings of it all. In fact, neither of us will hear a thing if the roof is down, and may be using earplugs to stop our brains feeling like jelly after a day of an engine cruising at 4k revs. As long as I don't run out of Kodak Portra 400 for recording the fall colours with a pair of Nikon F6's I shall be happy.

At one point the scrum of Charles Bridge just fucking ground to a halt and after a few mins started to shuffle forward in short steps.

re Sargon's debate
- it will be interesting to see a longer version. But it sounds like he was more prepared and had more experience in formulating and debating his points.
Which is not the same thing as saying he is right (even though I tend to think so in this instance).
The lesson for the SJW side would appear to be that the Overton window is not where they would like it to be - and if they are going to engage in dialogue they will need be do their prep work (including mock-debates) beforehand.

I don't see any chance in strategy forthcoming.
What they have learned is effectively that they need to try harder to prevent their opponents from being allowed to show up. Researching their arguments so that they might effectively counter them in a debate setting goes against the proclivity to create information silos where no badthought may enter.
