:-) But happy to see some countries recognizing the odious nature of Islam, that it is flatly incompatible not just with democracy but with any reasonable definition of civilization. Should be extirpated root and branch - Mecca, nukes, orbit, and all that. Hard to find or conceive of a more odious "religion", at least short of the Aztec's.

Meyers has a go at Harry Knowles.

I think he is so far up his ass that he genuinely cannot see that when he writes these things about problematic men he is simply recounting his own experiences.

They don't, though. They just see competition. Any of the specific horrible things Islam condones Chinese communists would also condone.

China's only beef with any religion is that they recognize authorities that are outside Chinese control. If there was a Chinese Pope or a Chinese Caliph you could bet your ass they'd be EMBRACING religion.

The China bans quran thing seems to be only narrowly reported and has been denied by Beijing. From what I've seen only the Daily Mail, the Voice of America has reported the story except for an Indian site IAN that has included the Chinese denial.

Maybe there's some truth to that argument, but the Daily Mail article also suggests some credible justifications:
China says it is facing threats from domestic cults and radical Islam, however, critics have accused Beijing of a broader pattern of harassment, detention and abuse.
Muslims simply don't play well with anyone else. Butter wouldn't melt in their mouths when they're in a minority, but gawd help y'all if they become anything like a substantial minority - as any number of countries have found out, or are finding out, to their shame and horror.

Somewhat apropos of which; not entirely sure that "Rohingya Crisis" not due, in large part, to Islamic extremism (aren't they all?): https://twitter.com/AsYouNotWish/status ... 7269420032
https://twitter.com/TrueIndology/status ... 6341851136
https://twitter.com/IslamismMap/status/ ... 7108434944
https://twitter.com/TarekFatah/status/9 ... 0787146753

And see Twitter search for more: https://twitter.com/search?q=Rohingya&src=typd

You might note that Tarek Fatah is kind of a secular Canadian muslim who's been quite critical of Muslims, particularly in Canada; I'd give quite a bit of weight to his observations. And you might also consider the massive deportations of Muslims from Greece (1923) and from India (1947) - Muslims simply don't play well with others.

And people get all righteous and offended when you call him male. Sometimes I'm certain he's just an elaborate troll, seeing how many people he can get to call him a woman.

My GF is asleep on the couch six feet away from me - she was reading a book and nodded off. Half an hour after she passed out, I popped one of my scabs (my lower leg is festooned with the buggers - big, juicy, deep scabs that leak rancid matter) and managed to gather a large dollop of pus and blood on my finger tip.

I wiped it under her nose.

Now she's sleeping fitfully, making weird little noises and pulling faces.

I think I'll rub the next "load" into her gums...

Black Student Group Complains Ivy League School Is Letting In Too Many African Students

http://thelibertarianrepublic.com/black ... -students/

"Cornell University’s Black Students United demanded the university start recruiting more black American students because the campus has too many African and Caribbean students Wednesday.

Black Students United, a group for students identifying with the African diaspora, handed the university president a list of twelve demands, with one of them dealing with the disproportionate representation of African students compared to black students on the campus.

“We demand that Cornell Admissions to come up with a plan to actively increase the presence of underrepresented Black students on this campus. We define underrepresented Black students as Black Americans who have several generations (more than two) in this country,” the group stated in their demands."

Some of you guys may find this interesting. Written from a right wing point of view. Now the author has a few quirks, he tends to conflate Socialism and Communism for exmple, but presents an interesting perspective. Well at least to me.

Quite frankly, I can not be bothered to read the purveys of postmodernist hysterics and histronics myself. It would be completely accurate to point out that I have read a lot more of about the various nutjobs like Foucault, Derrida, et. al. than I have ever actually read them.

Anyway. It is more or less a review of Explaining Postmodernism: Skepticism and Socialism from Rousseau to Foucault

Here

Notes on Stephen Hicks’s “Explaining Postmodernism”
17. There is an enormous problem, which leads to Hicks’s SECOND THESIS: Postmodernism can’t only be about epistemology and anti-realism, because postmodernists are always Leftists. Also postmodern rhetoric is very harsh, melds with political correctness, and currently is best exemplified by the non-stop effort to call everyone they don’t like a “racist”, “sexist”, “bigot”, “white nationalist”, and eventually “Nazi.” The final argument is basically just ad hominem. Why?

...

37. In the final chapter Hicks is able to answer his first question: Why has a leading segment of the Left embraced skeptical and relativist epistemological positions? Well, because for a modernist, words link to real-world meanings. But for a postmodernist, words link only to other words because we cannot get outside language. Therefore, words can just be used rhetorically, as a weapon. There’s no need to correlate one’s words with anything like “reality”, since “reality” doesn’t exist and is just a socio-linguistic construction. Meanwhile, there are conflicts raging between groups, and given postmodern ethics, that’s really all that matters, so words should be used as weapons. This explains the harsh rhetoric, ad hominem, straw men, always trying to silence people whom you disagree with by saying they are using “violence” by speaking, and the rest of the bullshit that has affected public debate about almost anything.
(I believe I would rather reread Necronomicon which I found pretty tedious than any of the "postmodernist" school. Sorting my collection of socks would be more appealing actually.)

I Can't Believe This Isn't The Onion.
Also basically these are people complaining that immigrants are taking what they think they deserve. If they were white people complaining about white Latinos they'd be called racists and xenophobic, called losers, vilified as trash, etc. etc. But apparently black-on-black or black nationalism is a-OK.

Don't worry, 90% of the people who based their theories on the books of the PostModernists haven't read them, either, but only read some formulaic and simplified version of their ideas. Most of Foucalt's writing is unreadable anyway, and Derrida produces long and indigestible piles of word salad. Even the SocJus fans simply skim their books to find the quotes they need.

I happen to agree with most of what is written in the review. The only point that the author glosses over is that one of the reasons why liberal democracies succeeded where leftist and rightist authoritarian dictatorships failed is that liberal democracies can incorporate what Popper called "piecemeal social engineering", a gradual, tried and tested way to assess problems of lack of social mobility, poverty, lack of access to necessary services that satisfy needs, etc., through social democratic programs.

Social democracy isn't Marxism: it's based on liberal democratic concepts and expands them to include a solution to the issues with the liberal democratic system itself (like crony capitalism, lobbies, monopolies and growth-burst bubbles). This isn't to say that all social democratic projects are perfect: like in science the key to "piecemeal social engineering" is testing, not an a priori assumption of success.

The American New Deal, or many Western European welfare programs, were based on social democracy, not on Marxism. John Maynard Keynes wasn't a Marxist, after all. Social democracy is about preserving, not destroying, individual liberties, and thoroughly rejects revolutions, violence and authoritarianism. It just adds a way to ensure that people in need can access to services that address their needs, along with a thorough and merciless review of the effects of those services. Social democracy is all about reason and data: if a social measure fails to deliver the results you wanted it needs to be changed.

The main problems with social democracy are that on one hand it's susceptible of being co-opted by the Po-Mo thinkers and on the other hand many confuse it with Marxism, especially among most right-wing people. Socialdemocratic parties are common in Europe, but pretty much impossible to appear in the US, where crony capitalism is the dominant current system, and anyone who tries to address its failures is called a communist and has to associate with PoMo SocJus fans or risk being called a Nazi.

On the other hand collectivist, anti-individualist movements on the right are becoming more popular, especially among working class peple who don't belong to an "oppressed class". In many cases those collectivist and anti-individualist movements do not especially value liberal democratic principles, not anymore than the SocJus anyway.

Very few self reported socialists online can tell you the difference between socialism and communism.

I've not watched it yet - but anyone willing to spend close to 2 (!) hours can listen to Seth Andrews give his reasons for withdrawing from the recent con.

There is a dark side to the atheist community, apparently. Though I think it's really pushing it to call it such - perhaps they are conflating 'conference scene' with 'community'.

Things have not been the same since Twatson & Meyers attempted to seize the means of production and gave up when they realised it might involve some actual work.

Seth is going to slice his ball sack in half pretending to straddle that reasonable fence post so hard.

Also amusing.

LOL. Seth Andrews is claiming that Sargon is trying to ride on his popularity & reputation. I didn't really know who Seth was before this. But Sargon still beats the pants off of him. Same with Shoe0nhead. Armored Skeptic is the lowest presence has about twice Seth's audience.

Rubin interviewing RedPillBlack. Her encounter with Quinn is quite interesting, sort of a window on hell.

Civil wars within the SocJus: Aki Muhtali vs. Dan Arel. Apparently the reason for the fall-out is due to the trans question, probably something about the recent trans vs. TERFs street fights.

Some suppositions follow but they are based on a mix of what I have read and generally my experiences with West Indians, Nigerians and Black Americans.

I suspect the real issue is that the Black Americans are being shown up by these other Blacks who are for the most past their cognitive, intellectual, and social superiors.

Social, in the sense that they are vastly more confident and secure because they come from an elite background. I also suspect that Black Americans really feel inferior and consequently uncomfortable around these other Blacks.

I believe I have read from time to time that recruiting these elite Blacks, is a very easy way of closing the Black White "education" gap that many schools for some reason have a vested interest in closing.

Hang on a sec. I am going to do a search ... nope. Did not find what I was looking for. But here are some results from the search string "black white education gap africans west indians"

Rethinking the achievement gap: lessons from the African diaspora

The Challenge of Educational Inequality

Black Immigrants in U.S. Earning 30% More than U.S. Born Blacks

A couple of papers : The Secret of West Indian Success and Successful Black Immigrants Narrow Black-White Achievement Gaps*

So I would say that no one talks about it but pretty much everyone in the education bizness knows that if [SCHOOL] wants to narrow the IQ/Education attainment gap then get as many Black Africans and Black West Indians as possible and try to get rid of as many of the African-Americans you do have (to transfer to another school?) but WHATEVER you do DO NOT SAY we are doing this.

The Black Americans are not amused so they revoked their Black Card™. They want Real Blacks. Not these Fake Blacks who make them feel bad about themselves.

Whatever Man. Fuck (Die Antwoord)
