Sad news.... the Army ambulance is a bit too tall to fit in my garage. I don't have a barn or anything to store it in, and I couldn't just leave it out in the weather.
I showed a picture of it to my wife and she liked it right away. She said... "Cool... what will we do with it?" Oh Man. I am feeling a bit down today.

If you start looking into Estonia, I may be more interested. I've only driven through Lithuania.Brive1987 wrote:The Lithuanian street guru has responded. Apparently the building marked green was pre-war but according to him the memorial is correctly placed. That means the garage would have been just to the left of the green diamond marker. Not exactly conforming to the eyewitness account of it being on the "corner". And the eyewitness use of "Greenwald" Steet is also out. The road running left to right (Misko) was however known as Wald Street from 1914-1918.
I also contacted a Jewish writer from the town who had done a story on the incident. He is convinced the authorities have hidden / misplaced the memorial out of spite. He is doing a site survey next week trying to match the red brick wall as an anchor point.

Of course Estonia was declared judenfrei by Dec 1941. Helped by there only being around 4K Jews - most of whom fled to the delights of the USSR.

I understand Estonia found the Soviets so terrible, they welcomed the Nazis as liberators. Being a Russian in Estonia today still isn't much fun.
Re: In 2017 Idiocracy is a Documentary
I think that this happened pretty much everywhere in the former Soviet republics, including Ukraine. There were plenty of Nazi collaborators in the Baltics, in Ukraine, even in the parts of Russia occupied by the Germans.Keating wrote:I understand Estonia found the Soviets so terrible, they welcomed the Nazis as liberators. On the other hand a lot of Russians, Ukrainians and people of other ethnicity in the USSR fought to the death against the Nazis. Turkic/Central Asian ethnic groups were especially pro-Soviet.

I agree with him that the University is at the center of the "culture war." In recent decades, Universities have swollen to an unrecognizable size, increasing in cost at 4 times the rate of inflation. This cost increase has primarily funded Administration and waste. In the University of California system fully half the cost goes directly to administrative personnel.
There is going to be a new generation of students who hate their student debt and hate that their University robbed them of value. There is a university cost bubble that might pop in a very destructive way.
So this little bitch DeBoer can only complain that the Republicans are threatening funding cuts to Unis. NO SHIT ASS HOLE! You, and your fellow "intellectuals" have been fucking the public and your students for the past 20 years. Suck a bag of dicks commie!
I will say... that he is completely correct about how Unis indoctrinate students. He is also correct that the left is going to wreck his precious funding because the left are acting like pompous intellectual assholes.

Jerry Coyne is mad that an unscrupulous author is targeting a famous figure and attempting to trash their reputation as a way to boost their own profile.
In between posts on this topic, he is promoting a book by a different author targeting a famous figure and trashing their reputation, which Jerry approves of.

I see a big difference. I just dislike the immediate leap to "oh small, less well known person is only targeting big, famous person to leech off their popularity." It's the kind of bad faith reasoning that in Jerry's case immediately turns around to bite him on the ass.Shatterface wrote:You don't see the difference between Darwin and a complete fraud like Freud?Sunder wrote:Jerry Coyne is mad that an unscrupulous author is targeting a famous figure and attempting to trash their reputation as a way to boost their own profile.

Liberalism has had a rough go for a while now. The term was denigrated and abused by Republicans in the Reagan era, dragged through the mud by neocons during the Bush years and now is being twisted Orwellian-style by the regressive left. Fortunately I see some of the regressive left beginning to use it as an insult and shy away from the term, using it to vilify what we would call centrists. I do hope that sticks, along with idiot conservatives realizing that using "libtard" only makes them look profoundly retarded.Matt Cavanaugh wrote:Because I'm sick and tired of a handful of Axis II walking train wrecks dragging down liberalism:

The US need a movement of people interested in solving social issues (healthcare, welfare, law enforcement, local politics, foreign policy etc.) from a non-identitarian, non-ideological, reformist, evidence-base, citizen-centered and taxpayer-centered perspective (and anti-lobbies/anti-corporate "special interests"). You can call them liberals or centrists or Liberal-Democrats or The Newer Deal, or Trafalmadorians for all I care. Political labels are so all over the place these days that they're becoming useless.CaptainFluffyBunny wrote:Liberalism has had a rough go for a while now. Matt's comment gets the most predictable of responses: "Uh, I know how to multitask THANK YOU."
Let's ignore that multitasking is actually something it has been repeatedly proven humans CANNOT do. When it comes to devoting a disproportionate amount of attention and resources to a vanishingly small identitarian faction, suddenly it's possible to juggle multiple priorities.
And yet we've got Peez and other liberal Luddites insisting we can't spare a fraction of our attention for something like space travel because that's just so bourgeois. And you're not paying sufficient deference to social justice if anything less than all of your time and energy is poured into that cause.

I see a big difference. I just dislike the immediate leap to "oh small, less well known person is only targeting big, famous person to leech off their popularity." It's the kind of bad faith reasoning that in Jerry's case immediately turns around to bite him on the ass.[/quote]Sunder wrote:You don't see the difference between Darwin and a complete fraud like Freud?
It doesn't take much of a leap to see that A.N. Wilson (who I think you're referring to) is a fraud, too, and Jerry showed a point-by-point refutation of what he stated about Darwin.
Incidentally, Wilson screwed up a "biography" of Hitler too.

Isn't PZ lying in this piece?free thoughtpolice wrote:Matt: PZ has a post up asking you to sue him:
http://archive.is/h9j9OI'm pretty sure when you remind him about stealing your blog post he will wisely settle for big money, like he advises Sarcod to do.Oh no, another lawsuit?
I’m a bit fed up with people who turn immediately to lawsuits to get big money for slights, but this one is different.
I’m not the one being sued! Yay! That changes one’s whole perspective, I tell you what.
It’s Sargon of Akkad being sued. It’s hard to be sympathetic, sorry to say, but if it was another bullshit suit by people angry about being called mean names, I would be.
This is not a bullshit suit! He’s actually been caught dead to rights on copyright infringement.
As I understand it, Sargon edited the video specifically for the rhetorical intent of commenting upon her commentary. He might have added a voice over before or after or something, but I don't believe the case is as PZ claimed it to be.Here’s the person doing the suing to explain it all. Sargon just simply uploaded her video to his monetized channel, no commentary, no satire, just lazily retitling a copy to get mo’ money.

I suspect that if YT decided to deal with this matter internally as a simple breach of TOS rather than allow it to escalate into the civil arena, Peez's prior libertarian leanings with regard to companies being allowed to do as they wish with all content under their own purview would vanish in a puff of smoke.
