I guess I should clarify I was partly defending the Second Wave.

Not only were there quite a few egalitarians in the movement at the time, but personal responsibility (instead of 'false consciousness') was the creed of all but the radical feminists. I'd also say the 2nd wavers were in general better educated than more recent generations. Thus 'liberal' feminism was able to have some successes if a few of its policies were later found to not be the best (and of course the radfems attached themselves, like ticks, to Domestic Violence law and services and the newly-formed "Womyn's Studies" departments and perculated there for 20 or 30 years).

Things could have gone forward if the egalitarian wing of the 2nd Wave had stayed strong. Alas, we know the history since then....

I think that they were far better at not being crazy in Switzerland than in the US. In Switzerland someone who is along the lines of Cathy Young or Christina Hoff Sommers would be considered a libertarian feminist. Many Swiss feminists are pro-sex work and pro-porn, and very few support quotas, they prefer local . Gender theory is virtually unheard of, except among millennials.

I haven't seen this fight yet but if what they say in this video is true it isn't the first time the judging has taken a postmodernist approach to the real winner. Like Olympic figure skating judges.

I don't think Trump will cause major media to reset themselves. It will take individuals making choices for better news sources.

As it stands now, much of "news" media consists of cheap easy puffy opinion pieces. But people with opinions are a dime a dozen on the internet. We can all go somewhere else and find someone to serve up niche self confirming opinions. Or even find people who challenge our opinions. And we can find better more knowledgeable experts with credentials to boot.

I think that mostly news media will loose their dominance in the opinion piece market.

A big part of the problem is that to the media companies, we are the product and the advertisers are the customers.

And as far as hard researched news, people have developed a taste for extremely well verified facts from the internet. The half-assed research many news outlets perform doesn't cut it anymore.

A good development are avenues like Patreon where we again become the customers.
