Note to Steersman: the above were rhetorical. I don't care what the answer the first question might be and neither option in the second sentence is correct.
LoL. Given that Alexander claims to be "a psychiatrist practicing in the US Midwest" you might consider that he knows at least something whereof he speaks.
I would be difficult to express how little of a difference that makes.

Most illusions come down to this: the system that is trying to infer the most-likely distal (actual) stimulus from the proximal (sensory) stimulus is being "fooled," because one of the "tricks" that the system uses is causes it to make a false inference. The classic examples are Poggendorf and Mueller-Lyer, both of which are caused by the system assuming a 3-D distal stimulus and then using one of its "tricks" to calculate distance from viewer to object, but coming up with the wrong estimate (because anything other than "it's flat!" is incorrect). [If you're into details, the "tricks" being used by the system, which I ought to be calling "heuristics," are these: angles that are near 90* but aren't are parts of far-away objects when the angle is greater than 90* and are parts of near objects when the angle is less than 90*.]
Any pathology that produces an immunity (of sorts) to illusions is probably related to either damage to or non-use of the systems that use tricks to infer the information that is missing from the proximal (sensory) stimulus. That's fascinating to me.
But we need to make sure that we are talking about actual illusions and not bi-stable images (such as duck-rabbit, old/young woman, or, gasp, spinning dancer). The mechanisms underlying the latter phenomena have almost nothing to do with those that cause illusions.

If whatever they are talking about occurred in California, then this could become interesting, because California is a two-party state (with regard to recording private conversations).

Choose one:
Reply #1: The reason that it would be difficult to express is because it's complicated. Knowing that the author is a 'tryst from the midwest makes it both more likely and less likely that have a fucking clue what "dissociation" means in a clinical context. I could walk you through the reasoning for both of the opposing effects, but doing so would be difficult and my spoons are in the dishwasher.
Reply #2: I hope that you're a Ningi, Steers, because only a Ningi can call another Ningi "Ningi."

Peter Ferguson is the most boring person on twitter. Even PZ Myers is more entertaining, if only because of his rants. Ferguson is just a tiresome bore, a holier-than-thou, pontificating twitter warrior.

Yeah. The more I look at this situation, my presumption is that if she is a seriously awkward person with a bit of mental illness and is widely unknown, then it probably would be kinder to not play this drama out in public. Unless they think she is some kind of serious threat, I think it is best to let it drop. It isn't as if airing this will improve her condition.

'Bi-stable images' is the term I was grasping for when I commented under the piece about the distinction between genuine illusions and 'merely ambiguous images' like the Necker cube. Your brain isn't really 'tricked' by an ambiguous image because there isn't a right or wrong answer.

I alluded to this in passing yesterday with regard to The Muskrat but I've spent the past day and a half bingeing on videos of Sovereign Citizen fruitloops unsuccessfully arguing with police and judges.
I think even moreso than watching SJW student protestors, the videos of these guys makes one really sympathize with The Man.

It took a while to figure out.
Some major boundary crossing 'shitlord' fangirl mistook her enjoyment of minor eceleb videos as some sort of bond or friendship. Snuck up past security knocked on Blaire White's door during their party, gave them all gifts and then wouldn't leave easily, then got pissed off so she started to record their conversations outside their door.
Vernaculius needed a room & somehow ended up accepting an offer to crash in her hotel room. Ended up being recorded while he was sleeping on her gopro.
Grabbed the cellphone of one guy, and set his account to follower her on twitter.
Other instances of following & recording people without their knowledge. Hopped onto one guy's computer, found out where he was having a sensitive conversation with Francesca (MTV racist), and tried to join in the conversation. May have been recording that too.
I think her major boundary crossing behavior took them all off guard. They are not used to that kind of stuff in real life. Each one assuming someone else knew her.

The only area where I agree with them is the UK TV license - the BBC can shove it up their arse. Other than that, they're fucking mentalists who need a shower, a haircut and a striped onesie.

Barry Norman has died. I used to watch his show regularly back in the days I gave a shit what film critics thought. You know, back when they wanted to talk about how good or bad a film was, not whether it validated their ideology.

And what kind of gibberish is that in the description??
Unnamed bandidos 'in rerum natura' assert authoritative standing as British Military Personnel 'a voce', under exemption for nuncapative wills to those 'cestui qui vie', on 'average Joe psycho' public servants.
NUNCUPATIVE. — A Nuncupative Will is when a testator, without any writing, doth declare his Will before a sufficient number of witnesses (Swinburne, 24: 2 Bl. Com. 500: Wms. Exs. 108). Before the Statute of Frauds all kinds of Personalty might be bequeathed by a Nuncupative Will without restriction; but s. 19 of that Act (explained slightly by 4 Anne, c. 16, s. 14) imposed restrictions. Nuncupative Wills were abolished by Wills Act, 1837, except (as provided by s. 11) as regards a "Soldier, being in Actual Military Service, or any Mariner or Seaman, being at Sea." [Stroud's Judicial].

But seriously, I like this place and I like the people who post here (even Steersman, although "like" is a big word...I find him interesting). However I've only interacted with you online, so I hope you won't be sorry if I wouldn't call you "friends". "Friendly acquaintances" is enough, like "partners in bitching about the SocJus, politics, society, science, atheism, secularism, religion, and everything else".
I've also interacted with people like Thunderfoot, Cathy Young or Helen Pluckrose, which I like and respect, but again, I wouldn't even dream to "get personal" if I ever met them. I'd probably compliment them for their job, tell them to keep up the good work, and keep it short and to the point.
Internet isn't a place to make close friends. You can start to know someone on the internet, but until you've met them face to face you should be friendly but keep a certain amount of distance. This is also true for internet dating: it's fine for meeting new people and setting up face to face occasions to get to know each other better, but you shouldn't fall head over heels for someone you've never met in the flesh.
Far too many people can't keep their internet life separated from their real life, often because they have a lousy social life outside of the internet. That's unlikely to lead to good things.
