Originally, the US civil rights movement wanted to go beyond race (as you indicate) and imagined an approach that has more recently been denounced as "color-blindness" by SJWs. Remember "I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character", that famous quotation of Martin Luther King, Junior? PZ Myers is such an imbecile that he isn't even aware that the newfound love for race, for white people, too, "to see race" and not be "color-blind" is a revisionist (!) approach based likely on Derrick Bell and the Critical Race Theory school that sprung from his ideas. I wrote about Critical Race Theory in some detail here (in three almost subsequent posts).

What's more, the whole "colorblind" criticism is pretty much a unique US thing, hardly known elsewhere and only spread five minutes ago. Elsewhere, racial subcultures don't exist or fade into ethnic subcultures, and in German "race" conceptions are completely unthinkable. It's straight hardcore Nazi talk. The word alone, "Rasse" is the same term also used for horses and dogs (i.e. "breeds"). I noted a long time ago how PZ Myers and his ilk declared "microagression" and such as if this was three-hundred-year old "knowledge" everyone must be intimiately familiar with, when at the time, even the article on the Wikipedia was barebones without any other language version. That's of course typical for SJWism, to find reason for outrage and callout to virally spread their ideology. Either, someone's views are being misconstrued to be outraged, or recent special interest ideas most people cannot possibly know about (and SJW themselves have learned five minutes ago) are taken as "common knowledge or you're a racist", with which the whole "educate yourself" response of them has co-evolved. That way, people have to immerse themselves into their festering ideological virus bath, with their immune system damaged from social pressure.

The galling thing is not just PZ Myers beliefs themselves. It's this attitude that his very american "left" views must be accepted as gospel by everyone. And that he is utmost convinced that whatever those beliefs are, they are correct, and of course left wing proper. He cannot even imagine that he might count as raging fascist based off some of his ideas, or that his US "left" ideas are perhaps even right of Angela Merkel (who is a Christian conservative in my frame of reference!). Being wrong about something is one thing, but the utter absence of any perspective, doubt, humanity, understanding is what is the most appalling of SJWs like him. They have the moral character of an concentration camp warden. Either, they go with the flock, blindly, with utmost conviction, or they are sadists who enjoy the power over others.

That was the old fashioned liberal attitude I was raised with. The "colorblind" ideal. Content of character, not color of skin & all that. Just plain old naive common sense. Discussing it was uncomfortable & impolite.

Inferring from my own experience, I'm guessing that a lot of the pushback against SJ is out of a sense of betrayal over this from people that feel they've been misled about the left's agenda.

I was never politically engaged & didn't spend any time digging into the ideological nuts & bolts of it all. I just assumed I was a liberal because of my opinions on key issues. Pro-free speech, anti-censorship, anti-racist, anti-sexist, detested the religious right, ect. My opinions were described as liberal so I passively assumed the label.

Over the years I started to notice double standards inherent in identity politics, but they weren't so glaring & unapologetically thrust into your face with attempted justifications they are now. The ordinary person in the street doesn't do nuance but they have a strong emotional reaction to hypocrisy & double standards. It feels like betrayal. On an emotional level it feels like there's a "them" that said one thing back then & is now doing the opposite after I signed on.

As people age, they tend to become more conservative & I think the left's recent obsession with identity politics is accelerating this process with a lot of their natural constituency. They're violating that old agreement to treat folks as individuals & not judge by surface features. The mainstream right still displays that old discomfort in referring openly to race. The regressive left never shuts up about it & openly despises any white people not on board with them.

Again, the Republicans are the ones with the power in this relationship. Trump's an easy scapegoat if anything goes wrong because he's the outsider. That strategy makes sense, but even with christianity there are some sects that push the bounds of credibility a shade too far.

That sounds pretty much accurate. The salafi outlook at least from the hard core viewpoint is the music for entertainment or enjoyments sake is sinful and musical instruments likewise with the exception of a hand drum which according to a hadith was acceptable to the prophet. Singing is considered acceptable if it has a religious purpose (lyrics) and has no music instruments other than the hand drum included.

As for the Lords - as far as I'm aware, they don't block something which was an election promise (re, Cameron's 'we will implement what you decide') but they could conceivably find some quibbling loopholes in the faint hope of delaying it out of existence. So they probably won't bother, given that an act of Parliament could force the bill through anyway.

Actually as hard as it is to believe with the creature she is now, she wasn't particularly physically unattractive in her early days as a MP.
She was my local MP way back in 87 whe she first won her seat in Hackney - "Black sections" n all that but she was bright and I gave her the benefit of any doubt at the time. I moved away a few years after 87,
but IMO she actually did very little for the local borough and knew she was in one of the safest labour seats in the country. She was too busy wanting the national spotlight. She also developed that irritating tendency to close her eyes when talking to interviewers. Plus all the other stuff.
