katamari Damassi wrote:So Sadiq Khan is now the mayor of London. When does sharia begin?
Heh. Doubt it'll be even slightly close to anything like that. Khan is very much a moderate, apparently.
I'm not looking forward to the gloating by the Islington Liberal set, though - already I'm seeing those types tweeting those empty, moralistic cliches about the wonderfulness of diversity, multiculturalism etc. etc. I do wish they'd take it to places where they really are lacking all this wonderful diversity and multiculturalism, such as Saudi Arabia. Right now, there's probably much weeping in the coffee shops of Riyadh about how just darn terrible it is to not have, for example, a Jewish, Israeli-immigrant mayor.

At least he won't mind if we call Khan a pedophile.
That's the goth version of The Wrong Trousers isn't it?
literally "The Dead Trousers" is based on a 1970s-sounding slang idiom somewhere (here/there) is all dead trousers, i.e. it's boring, nothing to do at this place. Now you know.

Is this guy running of the US president?
Then who gives a fuck.
Ok, we've got green light! Who's going to zap the Mayor of London?

I hope 'Yorick' keeps posting videos, because he's doing a great job. I find it interesting that Yorick adamantly accepts the notion of 'real' transgender people, while adamantly rejecting fashionable imposters. (I'm less-convinced than Yorick, that the 'real' version is real.)
Here are Yorick's other-two videos:

Yorick posted his 4th video today. This one is not a response-video to another trans-tumblr idiot.
Instead, Yorick comes-out as a FtM trans man, and compares his opinions to a noted doctor in the field.
Yorick =does= consider transgenderism to be a disorder, is opposed to kids under 16 being given hormones or surgery to transition,

Really? wrote:I wonder if Surly Amy would like to know that the acronym has seemingly been copyrighted by "The Truth Hurts."
I have no idea who came up with it first, but a bit of googling reveals myriads of uses of the acronym, both in web publications and in merchandise. Are we to believe Amy Roth was the inventor? Unless someone is selling an almost identical copy of her interpretation, it is hard to see how she could lay a claim of any sort.

She does have a butt-ton of fanbois on Twitter. Ever the white knights, charging to her rescue. It must be her slightly befuddled looking cross-eyed avatar. Mean folks picking on the special kid, that's us.

Yet again I fear we have a story that grew in the telling.

The Cafe Press design is marked as
"Created on December 22, 2011 at 6:29 AM"
so she's taken rather a long time to find that version of it.

Reported! Can I get a Surlyramic with that on?
Did I really get reported for sending the tee shirt company 1x link to Surly's Skepchick article and 1x link to the commons T&Cs?

Oh the harassment. It burns.
I'd report Surly for the 'go fuck yourself with a crowbar', but I couldn't summon the necessary fucks to give. Next time she has an Online Harassment art show, I'll send her own tweet to be displayed.
And seeing as none of you have bothered to enlighten me as to who Phil Plait is, I had to google that shit. Google says he's a popular science blogger, so I'm going to assume he's not a scientist then?
Surly is a thief shrieking she's been stolen from. If she had an iota of self-awareness or morality, she'd just shut the fuck up and let it go, but she's pissed some folks off. Now the effort will be made to notify the actual owner or owners. What a repugnant piece of work that creature is, counting on her white knights to save her fat tattooed ass.
HunnyBunny wrote:And seeing as none of you have bothered to enlighten me as to who Phil Plait is, I had to google that shit. Google says he's a popular science blogger, so I'm going to assume he's not a scientist then?
He is, IIRC. He's a notorious SJW with his tongue so firmly in Skepchick ass that he knows if they get post-nasal drip. Believe he has a PhD, but mostly does science communication. I'm probably wrong, but short on spoons atm.
Phil Plait was a minor figure in the great rifts, starting with his "Don't be a Dick" speech. Was also the front man of JREF for a while, before DJ, I think. Ask Stawkins if you want detailed history, or Brive if you want a timeline.
Ericb wrote:One thing I've started wondering is why Soros doesn't get as much hate as the Koch brothers. Maybe this just means that I'm not reading enough right-wing news sources.
That's kinda my point. I can also find plenty of "Why do lefties hate the Koch brothers?" articles. I've never bothered to read up much on either, but I've seen enough articles from left wing sites complaining about how much money and influence they inject into right wing causes, and several articles from right wing sites complaining about how much money and influence Soros injects into left wing causes.
Seems to me the problem is either both or neither. Either the large influence money buys is bad, or it's a fair part of the process that rich people are able to engage in.
The answer is:
c) It's Okay When We Do It™[/quote]

Not a fan of message tshirts myself, and the only positive thing I can think of to say about surlyramics is that you can break one, and cut your throat with the sharp edge in dire situations-like someone just called attention to your wearing a surlyramic.

I actually favored Phil in the DBAD kerfuffle. PZ attacked him over it, and it was my final clue that PZ was an unmitigated asshole. Of course Plait has since then shown me that when he says "DBAD" he means DBAD to his friends, everyone else is fair game.
It's no wonder that Plait's TV science career never took off. The man has a face made for radio.

Oh thought you knew. He if I remember correctly is an actual astronomer. Writes for Salon and went full SJW some time ago. He is a failed tv host.

Not only a scientist, but the first one to peer reviews one of Surly's science artworks.

Yeah it's a mixed bag. Check out the comments of the teaser he did for that. Lots of people, including me, took him to task and he did a real shitty job of trying to troll people.

Phil Plait of the the bad astronomer blog.
As a science promoter he is a solid category 2 player. But like Pam Gay he lost his way when exposed to SJism.
Then he became the original mangina, serial friend and ally of Watson and Surly. Pathetic gatecrasher of women only Skepchick TAM room parties. Chronic hypocrite. Shining white knight.
Pre SJ he was your usual sad nerd taking what scraps he could get:
In June 2008, just prior to appointment to JREF, he is Shermers best mate. These pics were taken the night of the Alison 'rape' - Shermer goes from here to the cigar party. Plait knows who to crawl to as he approaches his big time moment.
Around now Alison, the Shermer alleged rape victim, complains to JREF but doesn't get a hearing. This Is on Plaits watch - yet because of his SJ creds he doesn't get named or shamed. IMHO Plait's failure is a show of personal weakness as he crawls to Randi. By the time the incident comes out with the Grenade Post, Plait is too firmly in the SJ bed to fear exposure.
In December 2009 he leaves JREF to pursue his crap TV series Dangerous Universe based on his pop book. This cringe worthy show is canned after its test run. Plaits NDT run is over. I will never forget ushering my family in to watch this (while I was still a Plait fan) only to receive pity glances before they left the room one by one with excuses, never to return.
