The Refuge of the Toads
Re: The Refuge of the Toads
Last week it was talk of how big a shithead Trump was for saying he might not concede the election before a bunch of legal wrangling. If he clearly wins tonight I hope he doesn't wait for her and comes out and gives a victory speech.
Re: The Refuge of the Toads
Shit. I should have followed the returns with my Pit fam.
We all know how this shit happened, but how the fuck did this happen?
But we know how it happened.

Ha! She knows it's over... and she shows how much she cares about the american people.. she only cares about herself.
And the talking heads spin for her. Again if Trump did that they would be crucifying him.

Re: The Refuge of the Toads
The headline is ironic as fuck because only a few days ago, the media was pillorying Trump for not saying he'd concede to Clinton.
Re: The Refuge of the Toads
It's smart not to concede too soon. Gore did, then had to take it back. Made him look like the sort of weaselly one in the Florida contest.

I've never seen the term "whitelash" before.

Trump is about to come out and say....something.

My thoughts exactly. Seeing PZ pissed ain't worth this.Brive1987 wrote:Don't know about that. I do know the wall came down. And that was US policy.
So there. I need a third pint. For once my desire for PZ to be unhappy is trumped by commonsense.
He's got one more electoral vote to clinch it. It's going to happen. How did it happen? For one thing, Hillary really should have read Sam Harris's letter. For another thing, we should have stuck with Bernie.
Re: The Refuge of the Toads
Yes. Women tears over Hillary are a sweet nectar.

Re: The Refuge of the Toads
The lesson to Dems should be: You can't just shame people into NOT supporting your opponent. You have to actually establish your own positive qualities.
But they won't learn it. They're too busy reflexively blaming the Stein and Johnson supporters for not Being With Her.
Hillary's whole campaign has been nothing but an extended attack ad. "Don't be a Bernie bro." "Don't you dare cast your lot in with those racist, mysoginist Trumpers."
She decided to play Trump's game and she lost at it.

The race to 270 is electoral votes. 270 wins it.
Each state has a given number of electoral votes based on population.

Albright eventually apologized for that. But I can see that many women, though not all, probably saw that as an insult. And saw it as a challenge to at least consider Trump's position - which many apparently voted in favour of.Madeleine Albright: 'There's a special place in hell' for women who don't support Hillary Clinton
The former secretary of state was stumping for Ms Clinton in New Hampshire ....
En passant, quite a good interview of Sean Hannity by Megan Kelly and crew:

I also like the ones who think he will somehow empower the SJW's by somehow "oppressing" them (by not giving them most, or all of everything they want, like Hillary would).
And no, I'm not worried about Trump running a dictatorship (the corrupt apparatchucks won't let him).
A good night.
I must say the next 4 years under God Emperor Trump might be VERY interesting.
We all do occasionally.
I suppose there will be some regret, but I'm willing to bet there will be some pleasant s urprises as well.

It's precisely because Identity Politics has not only acquirred institutional power but some popular support as well, that I thought this election was the most important ever.
I can only hope Trump can disrupt or slow this horrible trend.

Re: The Refuge of the Toads
The problem with that is that Republicans won't spend a dime unless they can make up for it somewhere else in the budget, excepting tax cuts of course. So much-needed infrastructure spending, were it to happen, would come at the cost of much-needed something else.
Re: The Refuge of the Toads
Is it one of those pro-active pardons where he pardons her for whatever they might convict her of after he leaves office? Because I suspect that "they" will wait till Obama can do nothing.Sunder wrote:Regardless of whether you're joking or not, Obama can still pardon her for anything before he leaves office and Trump steps in.Spike13 wrote:Hillary couldn't be present,

Not true. A lot of them are happy to spend the money if they believe it's their idea.

Re: The Refuge of the Toads
This seems appropriate at this point:-
Re: The Refuge of the Toads
NYT
Mrs. Clinton’s loss was especially crushing to millions who had cheered her march toward history as, they hoped, the nation’s first female president. For supporters, the election often felt like a referendum on gender progress: an opportunity to elevate a woman to the nation’s top job and to repudiate a man whose remarkably boorish behavior toward women had assumed center stage during much of the campaign.
Re: The Refuge of the Toads
Hey Phil, Aneris, how do you feel about your elections next year now?
That. Together with Italy's referendum will likely see the end of the EU.

Perhaps the dumbest comment over at Coyne's:
That’s the trouble. That’s why POTUS *should not* be voted on by the American population. S/He should be elected by the rest of the world – you know, the people s/he’s allowed to kill without breaking any US laws?

Re: The Refuge of the Toads
According to the BBC Trump is still five votes short, and it's not clear whether that's going by exit poll projections or actual declared results. (Do you guys even count the votes, or do you just go by what the media says the results are?) But apparently Clinton has called Trump to concede. This will be an interesting four years.
My lefty friends on Arsebook are predicting the apocalypse and looking down at the little people and how stupid they are. However, one lefty friend has posted a clip that shows how we reacted to the election of Ronald Reagan:
Reagan didn't usher in the apocalypse, and neither will Trump. From the point of view of the rest of the world, he looks (even) more ridiculous that George W Bush, but he's an isolationist, so hopefully he won't bother the rest of the world so much. How he runs America is America's problem.
Again, from the outside looking in, if there's one factor that fucked the Democrats more than anything else it's probably Black Lives Matter. The Identity Politics racket at its starkest, based on bullying, emotional blackmail and obvious lies, and promising nothing but race war, anarchy and a return to segregation. The "rape culture" moral panic may have played a part too - the Rolling Stone libel case concluded just before the election.
In the time it's taken for me to write this, he's up to 278 and over the line.
