Lots of crappy drawings of genitalia (one entire section devoted to what FGM looks like), and persons lacking bodily symmetry privilege. Based on the booklet, Swedes are a dark-skinned race, with the minority fair-skinned population confined to wheelchairs. Heterosexuals are rare but tolerated in Sweden. Approximately half of all Swedes are trans*gender.

If you were looking for someone to represent you legally, you'd have to be insane, or ignorant of what she has done, to accept her representing you.

I bet her bosses wish they could quietly drop her.
She a barrister, so doesn't have any bosses. Barristers are all self-employed sole traders, although they often club together in "chambers" to share admin costs, and being part of Michael Mansfield's chambers will be good for business. Barristers are appointed by solicitors, and so long as there are enough solicitors prepared to give her work she'll be all right - and she specialises in family law, and I'm willing to bet there are plenty of family law solicitors of a similar mindset as her, who won't be at all put off by her antics.

This is what's so aggravating about feminists. They claim women are oppressed, but they act up the way they do precisely because they know there's no negative consequences to it, because women are not oppressed, they're protected. Which might be frustrating if you're independently-minded and want to stand or fail on your merits, but I think most people, if that kind of protection was available, would take advantage of it (for example, entrepreneurs set up businesses more readily because they are protected from financial ruin by limited liability). I think that's why fewer women reach the top in business or creative fields like comedy where you have to take risks or put in long hours to have a chance of making it. I think it's also why the increase in women doctors means a decrease in out-of-hours services on the NHS, and why an recent article in the Sunday Times pointing that out is being attacked as sexist and hurtful rather than as untrue.

She might actually get away with that, because she's a celebrity, so she may get an informal de-facto bodyguard.

Then again, once someone asks: "Who is she?" and someone else answers, "That witch from Harry Potter", oh dear, what a pity, never mind.

A 10-year-old Muslim boy who mistakenly wrote that he lived in a "terrorist house" during an English lesson at school has been investigated by police.
The pupil, who attends a primary school in Lancashire, meant to say he lived in a "terraced house".
Obviously a 10 year old boy has very little clue as to what he is writing about. But is "terraced house" a common term in Britain? Because it sure as hell isn't a common term in the US. I would never expect a kid to say or write that here.

I remember Jeremy Hardy making a joke about it when Bush was president and used to muddle his words - "I live in a terraced house, so I'm a bit worried".

On the issue of her career:
http://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/lon ... 44426.html
Charlotte Proudman is every stereotype of a radical feminists rolled into one person.

She was pissed off that the man who messages her on LinkedIn because he was older than her and she wasn't attracted to him. Instead of deleting the message and moving on she made it into a case because she sees herself as a pure paladin of womyn's rights sexually harassed by the ugly beast.

What the man did was a minor social faux pas (although Proudman probably wouldn't have minded if it was Hot Stuff or Oh La La who did it). You should probably be very professional on LinkedIn, since it isn't a dating site but a network for job opportunities. However if someone slips up slightly, like the man did, you shouldn't kick too much of a fuss. Delete the unwanted message, block the sender from your contacts if you must, and move on.

This isn't why Proudman acted though. She never mentioned lack of professionalism. She talked about "being sexualized against her will". Which basically translates to:

"He was gross and old, so he was creepy and disgusting. No womyn should ever be creeped out or disgusted by older, gross men"

When she wolf-wistles at sexy young things she's "liberating herself from the shackles of Patriarchy". She also knows she's attractive and might score with Hot Stuff or Oh La La if she wants to. Or at least she thinks she can.

Proudman is no different from everyone else. We all want to get approached and approach people we're attracted to. We all don't want to go out with people we're not attracted to.

Kind people turn down people they don't like gently, with some excuse. The slightly less kind but more pragmatic answer is to ignore the unwanted advances if you can (it's pretty easy to do it on a social network: delete the message and block the person).

Even people who for one reason or another feel anger at being proposed to by someone else usually simply reply in an angry way but they don't expose the deeed to the media.

Prodman, however, thinks that being a feminist makes her special. She thinks that a non-event in her life should matter to the world at large. She decided to turn her irritation into a national case.

The problem isn't with Proudman per se, but with the press who gave her a platform.

If we leave aside all the feminism ideology, the news was "Woman receives an unwanted message on a social network". Not exactly headline material. Unwanted messages are received by thousands and thousands of men and women worldwide. For all we know Hot Stuff and Oh La La were annoyed by Proudman's comments (although since they put pictures on a Facebook, a pretty relaxed and not dating averse social network, and she's young and attractive I actually doubt that).

Most people ignore the unwanted message and move on, and most aren't really interested in other people's unwanted messages. Proudman was able to turn an incredibly mundane, boring event into the evidence that The Patriarchy inspires "gross old dudes" to message "pretty young womyn" like her (oh the humanity).

The newspapers which supported Proudman, however, read about this inane story and about Proudman's radical feminism and saw the clickbait potential from both feminists ready to chant "you go, girl!" at Proudman for putting the old creep in his place and angry old dudes (and trolls) ready to call Proudman a whore, a bitch, a cunt, etc. etc.

Proudman was glad of being offered a platform and of having the chance to rustle some jimmies and make herself known as a feminist martyr.

And so the least interesting "big feminist event" of the year was born. Radfems found a new heroine-victim of Patriarchy. Proudman collected all the insults and the trolling she received and built up the narrative of victimhood.

Meanwhile ISIS was executing thousands of women and crowds of migrants were assaulting women in public. But that was all the Patriarchy's fault and Proudman getting messages from Old and Frumpy instead of Hot Stuff and Oh La La was just as bad as all the dead Syrian women or the European women who were raped or groped.

Pinker always refers to "primary sensory cortex" without any definite article. But why, then, is it not written "primary sensory cortices" or "primary sensory cortexes"?
If Pinker really does write "primary visual cortex" (with an article) and "the visual cortex" (with an article), then he's being weird. Both are more typically written without an article. The only explanation that I can give for what Pinker is doing is this: he drops the article when referring to something that maps one-to-one to a single Brodmann area. Primary visual cortex Brodmann's Area 17; visual cortex includes 17 and a few others.

With that said, the Wikipedia entry for Brodmann areas (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brodmann_area) is also inconsistent and actually used or omits articles in the opposite manner from Pinker. So my new guess is we're all just fucking with you.

I don't think Proudman's got what it takes to be a campus speaker though. She's anti-sexwork so she'd be no-platformed.

Also most feminists think sportswomen ought to be paid the same as men and she's in favour of sbolishing 'gender segregation' in sports which would mean women would have to compete with men. That would basically kill off most sports women's careers.

Kirbmarc wrote:What the man did was a minor social faux pas (although Proudman probably wouldn't have minded if it was Hot Stuff or Oh La La who did it).

This is essentially the same thing as Elevator-Gate. While we dont know what Elevator-man looked like, I dont think there is anyone here who doubts that had Becky-boo found Lil'Paul attractive, it would have never been an issue.

So heres the thing for me -- We arent psychic. At least Im not. I dont know how a woman is going to react before I make the comment. I can make a inferences and a reasonable guess, but like anyone else, Im sometimes wrong. Lacking telepathy, sometimes we are going to get it wrong.

Last night, I was handing out beer samples at a competition. This one youngish woman rather liked my beer and brought over a couple of guys she was with (turns out to be her brothers) to taste. Now part of this competition is a "peoples choice" award, so, Im in sales mode, smiling, making small talk, etc. I made a comment that I liked her hair style.* I didnt really mean anything by it. At best I was trying to get her to remember me, and by proxy, my beer, favorably when she voted later on. Perhaps I was trying to be nice in return for her recommending my beer to others. Had she been Charlotte Proudman, she would have complained to the event organizers** I suppose. Or perhaps I would have found my face all over twitter as patriarchy personified. As it turned out, despite my 15-20 years on her, this young lady apparently thought I was closer to ooo-lala than old and gross. She noticeably brightened when I made the comment and kept coming back to my table to talk. Which was pleasant as the event wound down and I would have been otherwise just standing there waiting on people to come to my table.

Pleasantries like this are an everyday part of human interaction. Most of the time, they are a small easy thing we do to make interactions with others more pleasant. Sometimes they are a feeler for something more. Sometimes they are taken as an expression of interest when they arent. But to vilify others for engaging in this sort of behavior simply makes life less pleasant for everyone.

Just occurred to me: Since she took my comment as an expression of interest when I didnt mean it that way, was she objectifying me? Should I blame the Matriarchy? Wheres my Patreon moolah?!?!?

* It was a lie. Her hairstyle didnt really do much for her, but it was different and I suspected took some effort, so I guessed she was proud of it. Does the fact that it was a lie make the comment more or less objectifying? Social Justice is hard!

** Im picturing Josh's reaction to this: "He complimented your hair? OK, Ill go have a talk with him right now, he clearly has no taste in women's hair styles."

Proudman thinks she's special, which makes her a feminist. Furthering my theses that all SJWs are narcissists.

Just occurred to me that I know several women whose Facebook activity consists almost entirely of posting new profile pictures and getting showered with compliments on how gorgeous they are. The poor things, how do they stand it?

(a yoke to keep them in place for any and all medical treatment/foot trimming/AI etc) or if they are on cubicles in situ on their beds. On the whole pedigree cattle such as your black and white holstein/fresians would have their backs broken by the average pedigree modern bull. Those things are fucking huge. The one below is average sized. http://www.lic.co.nz/images/bulls/large/101097.jpg
'Muscle' bulls for beef production are another matter. They have a truncated myostatin gene which impedes natural muscle growth inhibition by my understanding. IANAVeterinarian.

We keep smaller Angus or Shorthorn bulls to mop up what we can't get in calf by artificial insemination.
Putting 600-odd cattle from tiny calves and heifers through to the bulls this last few weeks has been a great reintroduction to farming.

I thought my wild (but I hope humorous) speculation was fairly explicit. Most people dont doubt the existence of the Morris Masturbator.

Just swung by the A+ forums because I wanted some privacy... Oh boy, they didn't disappoint.

One Google bot, three guests. No members.

That forum is truly a corpse on the side of the road.

That gives me an idea...

I'm a bit late with the reply, but I myself live in an end-terrace, whereas an end-terrorist is one of these isn't it?

Pinker always refers to "primary sensory cortex" without any definite article. This had me stumped for a while, but then I noticed that specific sensory organs do get a definite article: "the visual cortex", "the auditory cortex", etc. Which makes me think that "primary sensory cortex" is being used in the plural.

Thanks!

I did an informal survey at lunch and it was close to evenly split, with about half saying that they never use an article and about half saying that they always use an article. But that wasn't the biggest surprise. The last guy said that he decides whether to use an article after trying the sentence both ways. He goes with the option that "reads" better in terms of internal cadence and such. Given that he is one of the best writers in the dept, no-one argued and we went back to talking about really important stuff, starting with Tripp Palin getting arrested (again).

With regards to femfrequency's latest video “Strategic Butt Coverings” I found some blog place that gave it a great review. So I commented in the discussion something like
Of course women have great asses. That's why women buy yoga pants by the millions and men not so much. Men don't have great asses. And that's why women take selfies of their great asses and post them all over the web, and again, men not so much. Who are the worst exploiters of women's great asses? Women with great asses are.
It got deleted. Apparently I was being an ass.

Austria becomes the first EU nation to set an upper limit to refugee admissions: no more than 37,000 in 2016, with a total of no more than 127,500 through 2019. (Equal to 1.5% of the Austrian population.)

http://www.welt.de/politik/ausland/arti ...

And they're erecting a fence. The Merkel is disappointed in the Austrians, naturally.
