Okay, I've listened to (most of) this drivel so you lucky people don't have to.

It is interesting from the standpoint of tactics, though. The upshot is that Kitty Winter seems to want to die on the hill of the following logic:

Social Sciences have just the same validity as hard sciences.

Ideas such as patriarchy, 'The Wage Gap' etc are thoroughly proven by the social scientists using data.

All discussion must be within the parameters of the 'evidence', in other words moderated by a social scientist who believes in 'patriarchy' etc and will disallow all dissent as being non-evidential.

Anyone who disagrees with any of the above is a denialist akin to a creationist.

It's actually a thinly disguised way of trying to set the groundwork for a later appeal to authority. All arguments will be rejected if they don't come with the correct 'stamp of approval' from a 'political scientist'.

Funnily enough, the first person who didn't get it was poor Kevin, who kept trying to derail the logic by switching to the opposite logic, i.e. claiming that we the shitlords say "Citation Required!" in a robotic voice.

Even if you don't find it funny, you still have to admit that it's the first SJW cartoon to use the phrase "Show us your norks". The forced blokeiness of it may still grate though.
So hitting on women at work is sexism? Many couples I know have met at work, and in most cases it was the man who hit on the woman. It seems that they didn't mind the sexism.
Also, the phrase 'hitting on' is weaselly in itself. It implies that the hitter has all the agency and the hittee is just a passive recipient. In actual fact, in the case of a sincere social or sexual advance, the hitter is the one who is making him or herself vulnerable to rejection, which is the main risk of the situation, and the hittee who is in the position of power because he or she can reject.

Anyone who disagrees with any of the above is a denialist akin to a creationist.
The irony being that SJWs use creationist style arguments. They always talk shit about pro-lifers too. About how pro-lifers are so intellectually dishonest. Well, in my recent dealings with them, they are taking arguments right from the pro-life playbook. They elevate the 'oppressed person', which is really fucking creepy, treating them as if they are the most precious glass, glass that will shatter at any moment. We must protect oppressed Muslim rapist men, because, well, they are oppressed cuz brown. However, a few hundred (or thousand?) sexual assaults a year from these men is acceptable, because anti-Muslim bigotry = greater harm. We must sacrifice a few, to save many more.

And when you ask them the really tough questions, the questions that require a yes or no answer, you won't get it. They respond with 'well, what we need to do is just prevent ALL rape. But I don't see any solutions from you, probably because you are a bigot!!!1111'. Or "we don't need to talk about that, as the % is so low that it doesn't count'

Every dishonest trick in the book.

I really don't think that all of them believe the bullshit that they spout. But, they are a part of a group. And there is pressure to conform. No one wants to come out and appear the least bit skeptical, for fear of being accused of bigotry. I have also noticed, that when one of their own espouses an unpopular opinion, that they will sometimes pretend that it didn't happen. The person is a friend, so instead of denouncing them, they simply won't give them a thumbs up. But out-groupers are fair game.

The fetishization of 'marginalized persons' really really creeps me out. The emotional hyperbole. Every time I see that girl screaming at Christakis i cringe. I got the same feeling when the #blacklivesmatter folks crashed a Sanders rally and screamed/cried 'BUT MY LIFE MATTERS TOO'.

It's just so fucking emo.

However, if the oppressed person has the wrong ideology, fuck em, they are not precious glass, and can be thrown out with the trash. But if they are Muslim who rapes, hey, nps, they were forced into it by white cishet capitalist patriarchy!

This whole thing was a masterpiece of comedy. Because Bowie kept his privacy so well and let his music do all his talking, then people could project whatever they wanted on to him. Gervais's character thought that he would get empathy/support and some fatherly advice but found out that Bowie was a completely heartless bastard who was only interested in using him for material for a song, not caring a jot about humiliating him in public.

What makes it so good is that we don't actually know for sure that Bowie was not such a bastard (though I'm sure he wasn't really of course).

Also Iggy Pop's comeback album, The Idiot. A brilliant album produced and co-written by Bowie. Sorry John D, but the version of China Girl that Bowie did was a polite, mincing little ditty compared to the brooding original. I have to admit I am a bit lost on the point being made by about 50% of this cartoon. The middle bit about the accumulation of individual instances is intereresting but I could really use some clarification on why the reversed situations are dismissed with the "man tears" box. Surely someone abusing a position of power is equally wrong whatever the persons gender? Is it saying that the context of repeated instances has to be considered when ascribing value? Personally I hold myself to a standard of behaviour that isn't contingent on prior knowledge of the actions of others toward a particular person. Maybe because I went to a catholic school, but I tend to think of certain issues of morality in absolute terms, I don't know. I would argue though that all the examples given are morally indefensible whether in a vacuum or in a specific context.

Secondly, why "man tears", why not just "tears"? Is there someone qualitative difference between a man crying and a woman crying that ascribes greater or lesser value to one or the other? Am I missing something?
In the last comment, someone correctly points out that it is sexist for a female boss to hit on a male. But feminists don't buy that, hence *structural* power, and as long as they can keep claiming that white cishet males have all of the structural power, then women, and minorities, will be perpetual victims no matter what they do.(unless of course they want MTF TW who look like Danielle Muscato in women's private spaces, at which point penises are no longer scary and women rape just as much if not more than white cishet shitlords)
First Dog on the Moon is normally quite incisive and cutting when he's on about politicians and the state of things. But I think that he is a couple of profiteroles short of a croquet bush on this one.

I don't think we westerners should give a shit about the oppression of women in third world countries, not when women have it so bad here.
To American misogynists, I say: my oppression, as a woman of color from the global south, is not a weapon to hide your misogyny. The fact that the Taliban kill women for speaking up in Afghanistan, does not diminish your threats to kill American women who are talking about inequality in STEM. The fact that some 80 percent of Afghan women face violence at home does not make the sexist hateful murders by Elliot Roger dismissible. In fact, your reasoning is too familiar to me. You justifying the Reddit sex crime, euphemistically misnamed “the fappening,” is the same as Afghan misogynists fabricating pornographic photos of my family members to silence my activism.

I tend to make a distinction between entertainment and art. What is good art is just as subjective as what is good entertainment, perhaps more so, as sales figures dont factor in.

So, yeah, China Doll was great entertainment, and is one of Bowie's better remembered songs. If Cnutella wants to decide its not good art, well, we can debate the artistic merits of the various songs, but in the end, de gustibus non est disputatem.

Personally, The Laughing Gnome is my fave.

Actually, to bring it back to Carrier, I wouldn't be surprised if the conclusion of his book was "The son of God couldn't possibly have existed in the past; I was only born 50 years ago."

Even when he is on about Blob Slooten?

Pegida seems to be a pretty shady organization, and I completely understand why people would do not want them to get any kind of power, but they really have a point about the police not doing anything on New Year's Eve.

The worst part of the Cologne event was the lack of any meaningful reaction from the police. Surely someone alerted them. And they have water cannons, which they used against some Pegida demonstrations. They could have dispersed the crowd of harassers rather easily.

Why didn't they act like they did to dmeonstrators who get too close to them? Were they afraid of being accused of racism?

If Merkel doesn't want to give power to the far-right she should put some pressure on the German police not to be afraid to act against refugees or immigrants who violate the German laws.
Pegida reaches partially into the centre, but it's centre of mass is far right (by German standards) with substantive participation of Neo Nazi groups. Their success is in large part due to faux multiculturalism (there's nothing "multi" about huge groups of mostly Muslims), and the common problem that everyone wants to be welcoming and nice as long it is other people's problems. Too many politicians didn't take the fears of inhabitants seriously, especially in East Germany.

This effect is intensified as East Germans have little experience with immigration and their reactions are indeed mostly driven by prejudices, but there are also a couple of relatable reasons. Armies of unemployed people make labour cheaper or at least create a fear, which concerns people who are themselves unskilled (which also disproportionally affects people in East Germany). The asylum-seekers are also not parked in areas where rich people have their house. It's again to the detriment of idyllic-yet-remote areas. This affects elderly people who aren't particularily rich, but who have made themselves a nice home somewhere. All of this creates the setting for the Pegida and why it's attractive also to "normal" people. SJWs understand this in context of colonialism. But when it happens to people in the West, a foreign culture next door is suddenly reframed as "enrichment". Pegida was founded in Dresden and is still mostly an East German thing. But Cologne is on the other side:

The elephant in the room are attitudes of people from Islamic cultures, where the contrast couldn't be more extreme to the locals. People tend to forget that both the extreme-conservative as well as the super-pious are almost extinct in Germany, or they are outside of the political spectrum. But this is mostly the profile of Muslims.

I thought the Oaf had left, but FTB's got another Aoife in store.

Just caught a really good interview on CBC radio with a Pakistani critic of Islam:

http://www.cbc.ca/radio/the180/unheard- ... -1.3394359

She made some great points, most of which were critical of regressive leftists:
When you criticize misogyny and homophobia in Islam, how to people on the Canadian and American left typically respond to that?

They're defensive, they deny, and then they lash out and accuse me of being a bigot. I'm a woman of Pakistani origin, and I've been called a white supremacist, an imperialist, a race betrayer, a textbook racist more times than I can tell you.

Why do you think that is? Where does that reaction come from?

I hope it comes from a good place, where people are trying to protect a minority that they feel is persecuted — and it is, in a lot of ways — but in doing so they trample on the rights of minorities within that minority, like women, like the LGBT, like apostates and ex-Muslims, atheists who are called terrorists and killed for disbelieving.
She explained that she grew up in Saudi Arabia, and that she watched her mother get caned by religious police for showing a little too much ankle. And that after she has explained that this is one reason why she considers the hijab etc to be oppressive, regressive leftists will *still* accuse her of being a bigot.

Her final point was that when the left refuses to criticize Islam, that it leaves a void, a void that is filled by right wingers, who exploit anti-Muslim bigotry for their own ends.

Yeah, but Paul McCartney's We All Stand Together got to number 3 in 1984, and I defy you to tell me that wasn't shit by any reasonable standard.

I'm 54 years old. I gave up insulting other people's taste in music right around the time I got out of middle school... so yeah. I have spent the last 40+ years trusting people when they told me they liked something. But... you can Hipster me as well if you want.... and after school we can fight about it by the bike rack. You better show up or I will call you a faggot!

I'm not insulting other people's musical taste. I'm just saying that song was shit. Fight me irl, you big sexy.

I'm no more bothered by dating things BC than naming days or months after Norse or Roman gods. Fuck it, you've got to call them something. It's not like we can date the Big Band precisely and number all the days from then.
I vote we change it to BK and AK, for before and after Keating.

Breitbart is doing a sterling job in displaying the hypocrisy of Twitter regarding the removal of Nero's verified status for unspecified reasons while leaving other highly questionable accounts (at least in SJW terms) verified, including Mike Tyson, Bill Cosby and Oscar Pistorius.
