I'll start with the punchline: the terrorist attacks in Paris yesterday coincided with me deciding to halt my project in Miami.
The atrocities had an upside for me: focussing my attention outside my self & my petty loss. I avoided a me me me pity-party. I actually felt lucky to have severed ties with the upcoming frivolous, extravagant, trivial artwank in Miami.

As soon as I was offered corporate sponsor money to create a big silly project, I began thinking of contingency plans, to keep going if/when the sponsor evaporated, which it indeed did.

My contingency plan was designed to sidestep: 1. the need for airfare, 2. hotel room in an expensive place during a busy week, 3. renting transport in miami, 4. affiliation with an expensive booth in an expensive art fair, 5. paid publicity, 6. months of pre-planning, and 7. getting lost in the shuffle of other activity. I had other agendas, like 8. being-able to take my dog along, 9. getting out of the little room I rent in ny so my hosts' mother-in-law could visit thanksgiving week, 10. re-assembling my humpty-dumpty mind & business affairs by focussing on a worthy goal, 11. attracting sexy women, 12. start something worth continuing when the art fair is over.

http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/cto/5296550914.html <--I wanted to buy this $1200 stretch limo in NY, drive it to Miami, 'camp' in it in public parking on South Beach ($12/day), use poolside showers & toilets in luxury hotels, let bigname street artists paint the limo's exterior in the Wynwood graffiti district, maybe sell art out of the trunk, win friends & influence people, take-along my lovely assistant to publicize my antics to The Kids on social media (i sure don't wanna), & assign my high-end gallerygirl friend as contact with the reputable art world: collectors/galleries/press/sponsors.

Furthermore, the plan included commissioning a ny crew to paint a graffiti mural on a giant canvas, which I would take south & install permanently on a Miami wall... then complete the exchange by commissioning Miami's venerable Inkheads crew to paint a mural there-- which I'd bring back & install somewhere in NY. And either keep living in the limo/ or sell it.

So-- why did I cancel the project? Firstly: I'm a wreck. I'm not a drunk or druggie & I'm not diagnosed with mental illness, but I haven't recovered from my ex leaving me after 20 years together & my subsequent homelessness, loss of friends & routine, plus unpaid taxes, outstanding warrants for unpaid traffic offenses, lack of new direction. Initially I pursued sleeping with a bunch of young chicks, but found that too unfulfilling to bother. I sought new friendships, but found the tidy safe boundaries adults maintain-- kept things too superficial to bother. The artworld is a dull-minded gold-digger of a mistress. I'm not a sad bastard to be-around, but I will be if I keep draining-myself to be appealing/ without more fulfillment to recharge me.

One turning point toward giving up-- was an email exchange from a former boss... a sexy french woman. She's quite similar to Kingpin's girlfriend, the gallery director, in the Netflix 'Daredevil' series. And, actually, around her, I'm like the socially awkward parts of Kingpin. I told her my plans, and she asked a few questions about my intentions & goals. She knows me well-enough to see that I was building something which may be ill-suited to my true needs. I thought my reply email was sensible, I but after sending it-- I saw how strained & defensive it was.

When I see the spoiled SJW shits on college campuses or Elyse, I wonder if I'm just another entitled hipster like them, expecting to be treated like a special starflake.

I may still go to Miami, but I'll travel lighter. Just get myself down there, into the mix, see what happens, without the elaborate peacock display & responsibility to collaborators. If I buy a cheap vehicle, it will probably be an eyesore pick-up truck, to suit myself/ not a LookAtMe clown limo to draw dubious attention. If I involve myself in art-- it will be something closer to my heart. I used to love graffiti, and it paid the bills for years, but my interest is now residual. I still like pretty girls, but apparently I can no longer be bothered to show off to impress them without a deeper payoff. My lovely assistant is lovely, but she doesn't need my help to win at life. I'd rather meet a couple pitlers who live between here & there. Those of you who have suggested I become a real writer-- are onto something. I'd like to master the elements of style. My lack of motivation to complete the project is a failure in storytelling: like a business start-up, I could pitch the 'story' of what I planned to do, but it didn't contain enough meaning and substance for me to keep turning pages.

Any feedback to this is welcome.

Yes, that's extremely wooden, mimicking language learning.

Those who actually understand something can check out a recent one, showing that Julius Caesar was actually an ancestor of Klaus Kinski. The real Kinski was notorious for his explosive temperament, especially in interviews when he didn't like the questions. Long time collaborator Werner Herzog made a documentary about him, and here's a clip of the real Kinski, with Herzog calmly commenting from the off "I didn't thought to step in, because Kinski seemed comparatively mild this time".

The trauma. Oh, the trauma of something not going exactly as you expected at a minor convention. I hope you weren't too triggered, snowflake, because this is obviously worse than the Holocaust.

My french is real rusty but I believe he is upset that he can't be updates about Mizzou because his phone was in his pocket when he was hit with shrapnel from one of the bombings last night.

'Self care' Joking about mental health is funny, except when it's not, and only SJW get to decide when it's funny. Alternatively, they aren't joking, and booze should be free via Obamacare and these are the microaggressions universities need to address.

Arnieman got attacked by an off leash dog on walkies this afternoon. Other dog hopped her fence and bolted for him (first time this has happened in 2 years of us walking by). He will be okay, just cut up a bit (missed his eyes), I'm just shaken.

And then poor Phil *hug*.

I'm just gonna 'self care' and lie face down on the sofa for a bit.

No clue. Last time I tried to get a cracked game to work I gave up. My pc(older laptop) doesn't have the graphics card able to play it. As much as I would love to put money back to save for a gaming rig I just don't see that in the cards.

I can play Skyrim but it looks like crap.

As someone with a bit of sense said at FA (paraphrasing): If it's only the right-wing who are willing to say that Islam is the problem, then they are going to win by default. The public will side with them, they'll gain power, and the left will have fucked itself over yet again.

I liked the graffiti limo idea quite a bit. I understand that you are trashing it partly to help convince yourself it was a bad idea.

However, you came to the right conclusion. A trip with pitlers seems to be your new daydream. Wasn't that the dream all along for the trip?

You are a poster grandchild for the American dream. You have a unique ability to go from rags to riches to rags cyclically.

'Cyclically' is kinda weirding me out. That's a real word right?

Miami will be here next year, if you can't figure out some financial duct tape in time.

The limo is genius. Can I please have sloopy 2rds if you make it happen?

Fallon Fox is YA MtF 'lesbian' who's loudly complained that afab lesbians don't want to munch her re-arranged carpet. In what seems to have been a calculated punitive attack, Fox trounced lesbian & TERF, Tamikka Brents, taking but 2 minutes to send Brents to the hospital with "career-ending" injuries such as a concussion & a broken orbital socket.

Yet Fox and xir SJW supporters continue to insist that hormones have erased any physiological advantages of having lived as a man for 20-odd years.

The Q&A from the videographer is boring as hell. But six minutes after Danielle tried to wrap it up, something mildly interesting happened:

Dumb person in audience: Do you want her to be fired for protecting her students?

Videographer: That's not what she did.

Blah blah

Videographer: Unless we keep up the pressure, the university is going to win in the long run. She may get a slap on the wrist from an assault trial, but I think the bigger issue is, she's still teaching students. She went into class Tuesday and taught. There's been zero acknowledgement from the administration, but I heard from the grapevine that the new administration is interested in looking into it.

Blah blah.

Okay, now it's boring again. All of the three audience members are asking literally five-minute questions.

My lack of motivation to complete the project is a failure in storytelling: like a business start-up, I could pitch the 'story' of what I planned to do, but it didn't contain enough meaning and substance for me to keep turning pages.

Any feedback to this is welcome.

That sucks.

Glad to hear Arnie will be OK.

You probably already know this, but having recently gotten a rescue with some issues, Im working with a trainer and will share her advice -- Always take treats and a mini-airhorn on walks. First solution to a dog off-leash (or wild animal, a possible issue in my area) is throw treats at it and go the other way with your dog. Second solution, should the first fail, is blow the mini-airhorn at it. Will probably freak your dog out too, but better that then a mauled dog.

Having said that, Ill admit I dont carry a mini-airhorn. I do always have treats, in part because I use walkies as an opportunity to train with real-life distractions. Your experience may cause me to get an airhorn.

I will say this: culling the islamists is only part of the solution. Another part, possibly as needed, if not more, is to cull the fucking SJWs and affiliated morons who keep defending those vermins in the name of "tolerance", or because it's all "the West's fault". They're as dangerous as the terrorists themselves. No wonder the far right is rising in Europe.
Happy to hear that you and yours escaped the carnage. And I agree entirely with your points - you probably have seen this Figaro editorial but for those who haven't: As for "the fucking SJWs and affiliated morons", I would highly recommend Ibn Warraq's Why I'm Not a Muslim; there were some on-line copies though the one on Scribd has been removed because of copyright issues but I expect there are still a few floating about. But a relevant quote which is based on a book of Julien Benda which is a central theme of Warraq's:
Trahison des Clercs [Betrayal by the Intellectuals]

This book is first and foremost an assertion of my right to criticize everything and anything in Islam even to blaspheme, to make errors, to satirize, and mock. Muslims and non-Muslims have the right to critically examine the sources, the history, and dogma of Islam. Muslims avail themselves of the right to criticize in their frequent denunciations of Western culture, in terms that would have been deemed racist, neocolonialist, or imperialist had a European directed them against Islam. Without criticism, Islam will remain unassailed in its dogmatic, fanatical, medieval fortress; ossified in its totalitarian, intolerant, paranoid past. It will continue to stifle thought, human rights, individuality, originality, and truth.

Western scholars and Islamicists have totally failed in their duties as intellectuals. They have betrayed their calling by abandoning their critical faculties when it comes to Islam. Some, as I shall show, have even abandoned any attempt to achieve objectivity, to aim at objective truth. [pgs 14-15]

While we are at it.

Islam - Effects on Germany (ZDF) with subtitles. The ZDF would be akin to BBC2.

Have only watched the beginning, which is about interviewing pupils, children of the 60s immigration. They're German but they have their patriarchal views from their household and from Islam. These kids say they believe girls/woman belong to the man and they aren't an isolated case. Of course, when teachers draw a line, they're accused of being a Nazi (similar to SJW tactics, not tolerating intolerance is racism).

What's worse is that US don't get that Muslims in Europe are very different than they are in the US. Not only are the numbers different, they are also alien in a religious sene. A few more or less literalist nutters hardly make a difference in the US with all the evangelicals and myriads of churches. But Anglicans, Lutherans or even Catholics in Northern and Western Europe are not at all like their American counterparts. High numbers are very secular, almosts deists, or even practically atheists who merely cling to some traditions or a checkbox on some form. Muslims are, by contrast, highly religious and as studies show fundamentalism is widespread among them.

Of course, the SJWs are naturally opponents. For one, they don't get that there are countries outside of the US with different situations, and for another (feat. the US secular movement) their slandering of Richard Dawkins was harmful, for he was someone the media would at least listen to.

The irony is delicious. Skepticon has a thirty-page behavioral conduct policy designed to account for every possible minority. Skepticon offered people stickers to help other conventiongoers understand whether or not they were welcome to engage in conversation with the sticker bearer.

And now they've tarred a clearly autistic journalist as a racist while he was ONSTAGE AS A SPEAKER.

Islam needs to be reformed and secularized. I don't give a shit about "tradition". I don't give a shit about "culture". If your tradition inspires you to commit or support this evil acts, your tradition is wrong and needs to change.
Let me agree with Kirbmarc's sentiments here. The reformation of islam is the critical area I feel. ....
I should say a couple of things which may be getting lost in emotion. Saying this is the simply the work of "extremists", or that "Islam is evil" etc. misses the point, and also creates obstacles in understanding what is going on, and what will happen in the future. (I find it amusing that those who write long disquisition on SJW phenomena, which, frankly, are like learned essays on warts on an monkey's ass, say unthinking things when it comes to events which really matter).
<snip>

.... The abstract concepts of democracy or free-speech we understand in the West are alien to the Middle-Easterners. In this situation, it is best to let the system evolve into its own equilibrium. Western intervention has always made the situation worse, from Afghanistan, to Iraq, Syria and Libya. It is the same simple-minded idiocy as saying "Islam is evil" and hoping that repeating that thousand times, like a rosary, will solve all problems. The reality is that we must stop supporting the Saudi regime, get rid of IS in Syria, and then stop meddling in affairs which are impossible to control. Stop trying to "give" these people democracy, stop bringing them "freedom". Its does not help, and, in fact, makes matters worse.
That's actually quite a good analysis, one which I largely agree with. And particularly with "the real danger lies in the Salafi/Wahabbi/Takfiri groups" - part of the reason for my tweet (posted here a few pages back) to Dawkins' tweet about the Saudi's offering to build mosques in Germany in exchange for or to support Muslim immigration there: talk about a poisoned chalice.

As for the contention that "Islam is evil", that is maybe moot. But if it is - and there's plenty of evidence to support the contention - then, arguably, it's largely because of its reliance on literalism, it's dogmatic insistence that the Quaran is the word of gawd. A female Canadian priest, whose name I've forgotten, argued that literalism is the monster in the bathwater along with the "baby" of whatever value there might be in Christianity, but, more generally, in any religion: some danger in throwing out the baby with the bathwater, but some necessity in trying to differentiate between the two.

I'm nervous about the second Democratic debate tonight. There will be a lot of questions about the attack in Paris, and if the candidates respond with mealy mouthed declarations against generic violence, and blandishments about peace and understanding, they will look like total pussies and prove Ann Coulter right, that they have handed the election to whatever bell end the Republicans nominate. They need to at least appear hawkish on ISIS.

This sounds like a brilliant plan. From some of the other things youve said, it also sounds like you are not really in a place where you can pull it off well, but I want to say the plan is good.

Youve said that youre interested in writing. Youve also said that you used to have a passion for graffiti and even made a living at it. Based on your existing writing style, I think you could make a go at covering the graffiti scene, and perhaps even the wider art-scene, in a gonzo-journalism style. Might be a way to capitalize on your existing contacts while moving into a field that you may have more passion for. If you do go to this Miami artwank, write up your experiences. Even if its just self-published on a blog (or a blag as our hostess would say), the best way to be a better writer is to do it, and it gives you a body of work to point to when you are trying to get someone to pay you to write.

I watched some of the Skepticon interview of that videographer.
He actually came across as SJW-lite himself- talking about his white-privilege etc and wanting to end white privilege in future.
It was, however, totally the wrong venue for such an interview. Even if Skepticon hadn't degenerated into a hive of SJW fuckwits, and was instead a real Skeptics conference, it wouldn't have been the correct venue.
If you have paid attention to how Skepticon has become (not that it was particularly brilliant in the first place) the FTB home party you will be able to predict how things would progress.
There was deathly silence during the talk and then some angry whines afterwards.
The funniest part was when some idiotic woman told him how dare he, as a white person, should charge someone with criminal assault when black people are getting assaulted every day!
