Ugh. Just ugh.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/73669
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock with no access to Twitter or Reddit, you've probably heard of the Gamergate scandal that began a little over a year ago. In short, game developer Zoe Quinn, creator of DEPRESSION QUEST, was accused by a vindictive ex-boyfriend of using her relationship with Kotaku journalist Nathan Grayson to generate positive publicity for her game. That led to a massive outpour of rape and death threats, public posts of her personal information, and a wider awareness of just how sexist the game industry can be.

And here’s Hollywood, currently riding the feminist wave like it’s BIG WEDNESDAY, to come and put things in a proper perspective.

Former Sony exec Amy Pascal has bought the rights to Quinn’s memoir, Crash Override, and Scarlett Johansson is said to be eyeing the role of Quinn.

This is easily one of the most controversial subjects I’ve seen in pop culture over the past few years, with the opposition maintaining, steadfastly, that Quinn is an opportunist and a liar that used her sex for personal gain, and that the sexist overtones of much of gamer culture is thoroughly justified. Its an argument that, ironically enough, could only persist if the accusations against the state of the industry were thoroughly true, and has created a focus on what it means to be a gamer in the 21st century.
This can't end well for anyone.

I'd watch the Zoe movie if Scarlett covers the "Locke Valentine" nude photo episode with appropriate aplomb.

In fact if she gets that right she can skip the rest.

Actually, that wouldn't be so bad. 130 minutes of Scarlett getting filled airtight by five guys while her boyfriend watches until he gets sick of it.

To get Scarjo to look like Quinn, I recommend they get the make-up artist who transformed Charlize Theron into Aileen Wuornos in Monster.

Kirsten Dunst was allowed an American accent in Marie Antoinette. I dont see any moral requirement to bridge the gap below. Let Scarlett's outward appearance be a metaphor for Zoe's internal grace.

Please.

Ive just been watching the last Hobbit movie. We have rented the damn thing three times and never finished it, now it has an hour left and it will not beat me.

I did just glance up though and I could have sworn I saw Legolas climb up a pile of free-falling rocks like it was a staircase.

Nah. Couldn't have been.

Yes. She was claiming that people were demanding ransoms. It is kind of funny to hear Sargon try to ask her a question about her claims, and every time he does, she backs off of her claim. She is completely vague, and when you try to nail down the specifics she just backs away.

Which one? At the beginning the Laughing Witch aka Jenny Bathtub was on for a while and sounding kind of loony but signed out after a short while. I'm not sure how long the stream had gone on when I found it, maybe she spoke a lot earlier.
Bewildered Ape came across as even more of a dimbulb than he does in his videos. He doesn't really seem to have any ideas of his own, and when you hear him talk you can see he is someone that has struggled with stuttering and lisping. He comes across as an incredibly socially awkward person.

Sargon likes to invite "opponents" on his streams for interviews. I suspect he is returning the favor since Mr. Potato did that for him. Sargon's interviews tend to be heavy on the question and trying to identifying a person's position and letting themselves express themselves for good or bad. Sargon doesn't do the hanging. It is up to the interviewer to hang themselves in the ears of the listener.

LW says she chose the 25000 number specifically. It wasn't random.

She said the 25k came from 30 days worth of paying her 14 employees.

If all split equal, it's 1875 per month per employee. That puts them at $21428 annual salary.

http://www.indeed.com/salary?q1=Bathtub+Refinishing&l1=

Typical salary for bath tub refinishing is 33k per year, so we're a little off but ok.

She described her employees as having families, which makes sense.

The us poverty line for 2015 is 24,250k per year for a family of four.

Yeah, you could see her tits better! The acting was worse. Not because the actors were bad actors, but because the dialog was so damned stiff. But I was 15 and the acting & dialog Did Not Matter At All. It had hot babes in a sci-fi show. I was sold.

Of course, I liked BSG the original too. Well, the women. Watching Mr. Cartwright lead the Mormon Expedition to Earth with a bunch of lousy male actors, constantly repeated stock footage and silly swear words (well, felbercarb at least) was not all that great. But the woman who played Cassiopeia... Oh SCHWING!!!!!

She's arguing that she's under paying her employees so severely that they are well below the poverty line.

I caught that too. She specifically said she calculated 2 pay periods. So it would be safe to assume she pays bi-weekly. That would work out to $23,214.29. And she says that he has had people working for her for years.

Well obviously puberty is as much a decision as losing your milk teeth, but let's leave that aside for now.

What we see once again is that trans advocates who will claim that sex/gender/whatever are just whatever you say they are and you can have a full beard and penis and still call yourself a women will STILL fall back on gender essentialism when it suits them.

Trans advocates are shooting themselves in the girlcock by trying to argue that SRS and hormone therapy are irrelevant and unnecessary, when a lot of them still want those procedures to be treated as medical necessities.

What I do like is the fact that Truman stood up to the southern "gentleman" white racists and told them to go pee up a rope, and most especially the fact that the convention backed him up on it. If the convention had pussyfooted on civil rights I would have been strongly tempted to vote the vegetarian ticket.
That quote is from a letter, from Robert A. Heinlein to his wife, dated 1948. He was talking about the race between Democrat Harry S Truman and Republican Tom Dewey; and the spoiler candidates who risked splitting the Democrats: Dixiecrat Strom Thurmond and Henry Wallace's Progressive Party.

I found the anti-racism, the pre-civil-rights-era reference to 'civil rights', and the 'vegetarian ticket' to defy the standard historical narrative. It's easy to believe Heinlein was ahead of his time. Also easy to believe the standard narrative omits contrary facts.

I've begun reading the 2nd volume of William H. Patterson, Jr.'s biography of Heinlein. I posted about the first part, earlier this year... it was amazing. I hope this is just as good, but Heinlein's life may have settled-down after he became a fulltime writer. (His childhood, naval career, socialist political organizing, WW2 engineering, and post-war re-invention... were an excellent tour of the time period.)

Right now, I'm reading about how the 1951 Congressional hearings against Comic Books influence on children... had a chilling effect on Heinlein's editors... so that they were afraid to publish his juvenile novel Red Planet without panicky edits. They were afraid of sexual connotations in a description of the lead boy playing on his bunk... with his dog-sized martian pet. And afraid of descriptions of teenage settlers on Mars... carrying handguns to protect themselves from alien 'water-seeker' critters.

Regarding the discussion about the merits of Star Trek:
Early sci-fi fans saw themselves as boosters for a techno-progressive future, using fiction to lobby for space-travel becoming a reality. I just read excerpts of bickering correspondence between Forrest J. Ackerman and Heinlein, where Ackerman accused Heinlein of dumbing-down science-fiction for a mainstream audience; and Heinlein replied that he was doing outreach by seeding stories in the Saturday Evening Post. The original Star Trek series is a wonderful artifact of riding the line between hardcore dreamers and mainstream dopes.

Documentarian Cassie Jaye.

Crucial question: does she know all the keyboard shortcuts?

What about discussing her documentary-making capabilities? I mean, it's not like this all looks like a weird obsession because she's cute AND open-minded about things, but it kinda is.

No?

Oh, ok then.
