Maybe they didn't think about it much. Perhaps one of the pit shop masters would be kind enough to design a logo for their use.
For objects whose mass is much smaller than the mass of the body they orbit, the properties of their orbit do not depend on their mass, but only on the mass of the body they orbit.
That's why it's possible, for instance, to place a 1kg satellite and a 1000 kg satellite in an identical orbit around the Earth.

I'd noticed that none have come to PZ's defence on the Hitchen's thing. When it was Nugent there were a tonne of posts from these guys. I think he is feeling pretty isolated at the moment
The Benson schism really broke his support from fellow bloggers. PZ made perhaps the least strategic move one could imagine by waiting until it was far too late, then backing the loser and shitting on his blogmates.
Then he insults Thibeault and Gabriel's tiny blog ouput and lack of site revenue compared to Benson, and what a dumb fucking move that was, because I guarantee more bloggers than just those two took offense to that. Now they know that PZ sees them more as numbers than people, and not only is he prepared to sell them out, but he's dumb enough that he probably won't even get a good deal on it.
Basically, if Peez were Judas he would have sold out Jesus for 12 pieces of copper, 8 of which were actually chocolate.
PZ is convinced he is the ultra-left John Galt. He doesn't need anyone, they all need him. He'll keep screaming that even past the time when he's the only one who can hear it anymore.

I noticed they're not in alphabetical order like the FTB blogroll, and they missed the opportunity to turn the bloglist into a fun acronym like BAGELHAG.
Makes sense Lousy Canuck is the most computer literate of the group and so would pit himself first and you have to be brave not to put Svan at least second
The real question is how many of them pivot away from PZ.

I took a screencap of the homepage from google cache; unfortunately, wayback machine won't archive it.

That may be the case, but I think his Bayesian reasoning failed him a bit there in assuming that his highly sex-negative and 'ew men ew!' network coblogger of so many years would take kindly to having her comments assailed by one of those 'ew mens!' filling up her comments section with his proclivities as regards that dirty sex thing.
the tl;dr version: Carrier once again saw a chance to make it about him, and he took it...and was quite surprised that it was off-putting to people who didn't want his habits to be the center of the discussion.
I understand, but opportunity is often ephemeral. Tney have been exposed, they have lost their wow factor and they may very well be slapped about with their plan cruelled.

It's something you can do for a small fee. Lots of people don't want they names and address out there for people to see.
There's also a slow movement to make that the default, especially since places with remarkably dumb customer support, like Amazon, can be phished via whois details.

The key bit:

Again, this sort of documentation is too detailed, not something a hoaxer would get into in my mind.
Hmm. Probably not a hoax then. I did notice that the archives over on the-orbit.net go back quite a way (I was able to pull up Zvan posts from 2012 and the archives went further back then that) which isn't a point in favor of it being a hoax or clone.
To be fair, it could still be a hoax. Typing "Jason Thibeault" is not exactly rocket science. The data is somewhat inconclusive as of yet. The whois records are hardly a smoking gun:

Yeah when I had a website I masked my information. And this is coming from a guy who share almost everything online.

For a bit in how bad humans can render all your complex security useless:
Now, I kind of giggle at $600 a month being a "heavy" AWS user, but he makes some good points, and the first response, if true, show just how badly Amazon support is trained.

If it is a hoax, then the hoaxer was clever enough to blank out the website right after the Pit started linking to it. Whoever built this site is fully tuned into the rifts, whichever side they might fall on.

There's a setting at the back end of WordPress sites to specifically request that search engines exclude indexing the site which clearly wasn't enabled if it was found via Google search.

I don't think they realize how unpopular they are, or conversely how outnumbered they are by the "assholes" (as the term is defined by people with a host of cluster b personality disorders). That's why they can't comprehend how much they actually do need consensus. Lasting change is possible if you can convince the majority of the crowd of the merits of your position. Try to brute force it, and you wind up with schisms. And look at how those schisms play out. Compare the popularity, intellectual output, and creative output of a place like the pit to a place like the atheism plus forums, or the GamerGate hubs to their counterparts.

Like I said, the probability it's not is pretty high, but it's not beyond the realm of reality that it is.

Yes also no matter how well off a person is they think it's okay to call themselves marginalized. Even if they truly feel that way they are not smart enough to keep it to themselves.
I wish I was able to be half as sure of myself as these people can be.

Given thimbledick's mad skillz, it was probably intended to be private yet.
Fits with my theory - that the site was never intended to be live until it was ready to allow for a public exit from FTB. Maybe LC wanted to show progress to the group, set it to live and forgot to reset it after.

Yes they might have been paranoid that PZ would tell them to fuck off and dump their blogs before they could grab a backup or the new platform is ready. Also if they were to be ad supported, they would need to hold the account in some financial structure rather than trust it to one of the bloggers.

Yep. Check whois for t'Pit.
I just checked the company I resell and they offer it for $5 per year. I think that this is fairly recent addition. A real pain as I get a lot of calls from people who want their website changed and have no idea where it's hosted or who registered the domain.

Good catch.
Not really, Blue Ball Skeptics tweeted it to LousyCanuk, Benson and Svan - So one of those could have been listening and there were a few comments made on blogs. So if it is them then they would have seen it. On the other hand if it was a troll, they would most likely be following one of us or on this forum.

What about a GoFundMe dedicated to purchasing each of the mutineers a copy of some high school level critical thinking textbook. These dipshits have had countless advantages to succeed because they're Canadian
because they're women
because they're cunts who will bitch and moan if you don't give them what they want
because they're bootlicking male feminists who are willing to be urinal slaves
but they fucked it all up and all most of them could get were spots in FTBCon.
Had they fought along traditional lines? Things would probably have been different.
I must also say that I find the wider community we tried to build at Freethoughtblogs is less a unified group than a disparate collection of loosely affiliated blogs that have found a convenient hosting service, which doesn’t help my mood much, either. We are all objects in space, drifting, occasionally bouncing off each other or tugging gently at each other’s masses.
