Hi PZ. Welcome to the Pit. :greetings-waveyellow:
Seriously though, Matt, Tuvok, who, by the way I like quite a bit, made a plain and unambiguous statement, a la PZ, that ToiletBowl is a rapist. And there is no proof whatsoever that that is true; shades of Shermer, PZ, et al. Yes?
Also, I think you will note that my quote and comment had nothing to do with or say about Tuvok's calling ClownShoes a scumbag. He is. That's undeniable.
Anyway, I just don't think it is right to yell rapist when there is no evidence. Surely that kind of preference for fact over he/she said, and other forms of anecdotal dithyramb, is a signal mark of the Pit?.
I don't that anyone seriously believes that Thibeault is a rapist (not even Tuvok or Matt Cavanaugh). What people argue in a satirical way is that he'd probably be accused of being one by the Horde if he weren't one of them and if his ex-girlfriend sent an email to Carrie Poppy, because according to FTB statistics a woman is extremely unlikely to make any kind of false accusation (not just to the police, to anyone). But by any
sane standard, however, there is no evidence whatsoever that Thibeault is guilty of any crime.
People here just say that
according to his own standards he should be publicly shamed. So should PZ.
It's also interesting how they argue that false accusations of rape are incredibly unlikely but then two of them wrote that they were victims of false accusations. PZ claimed to be rather worried by the possibility of being falsely accused, and wrote that even if he were found not guilty an investigation could have ruined his career.
So either false accusations aren't as incredibly unlikely as the FTB ideologues think they are, or according to FTB logic Thibeault and Myers are very likely to be guilty of whatever crime they've been accused.
The most reasonable assumptions that we can make is that the FTB statistics are highly inaccurate and that their standards should never be adopted by any responsible person or group of persons.
If you reject those assumptions, as the FTB people do, then you're forced to assume that Thibeault and Myers are very likely to be rapists. Of course this conclusion is based on some insane standards, and Thibeault and Myers are well within their rights to call such an accusation crazy and defamatory.
The problem is that they don't seem to grant the same rights to the people they accused to be rapists on their blogs.
