Yes, biologists have come around to the idea that it's a false dichotomy, but it took the concept of gene regulation to do it for many. Until then, they were quite happy with nature vs nurture and continued to teach it long after developmental psychology dropped it for the interactionist view.

I can't speak for the USA but in the UK the word 'cunt' is rarely used in a gendered way. It's most frequent usage is as shorthand for an obnoxious person, usually (but not exclusively) male.

Likewise, 'twat' is a stupid person.

They're both dysphemisms for 'vagina' but if their connotations were entirely reliant on referencing vaginas we'd use them interchangeably, but we don't: 'cunt' is an obnoxious person, 'twat' is an idiot. We don't confuse the two.

I think 'cunt' might be more gendered in the USA based on the usage I have heard in films and TV. 'Twat' seems rarer, and they don't even pronounce it right.

'Nigger' is only ever used about black people, either by racists or (sometimes) by black people themselves 'taking it back'. It's never used against obnoxious white people or stupid white people or white people of any kind; it simply doesn't have the double or triple meanings of the words 'cunt' or 'twat'.

I'd be very reluctant to use 'cunt' or 'twat' against a woman in case it was taken as a gendered insult; I might describe a mixed group as 'cunts' or 'twats' though.

I'd just add that perhaps the situation was slightly different from what I had in mind when I wrote my post, because in your case they were not trying to insult you because of your skin colour. It is perhaps similar to a woman calling a man a cunt.
