Pharyngula's comment section is not really a comment section. It's a forum. It's about the personalities that inhabit it and their daily dramas. And PZ clearly wants it this way. His entire motivation for making it more "welcoming" is just another way of saying he'd like to recruit more regulars. But it's impossible to have lots of regulars and not have cliques develop or have the place not be intimidating to newcomers. Established comment culture is going to turn off people who don't have the time or inclination to learn the customs.

This is the main problem with Pharyngula - it's not so much about the commenting rules, but that they're not enforced fairly. I am resigning myself to the necessity of more moderation…which is weird, because the usual stereotype out there is that I censor heavily. I don’t. Quite the opposite, actually, which may be part of the problem — I’m letting a lot of crap go by.

And as we see on FTB, some people claim American Indian ancestry in order to increase the scores in the games of oppression Olympics.

And your black scholarship shit is already being gamed by African Americans, as in first and second generation Africans who come to America with the hella privilege - educational, financial, familywise - of immigrants.

If people awarded scholarships on the basis of class this wouldn't happen... but hey whatever.

What do you consider a “good faith” effort to ask for evidence? My first post is usually to ask to for evidence, which is why some, or a lot, say I am boring. The trouble comes when folks think their evidenceless testament is evidence (except when describing personal experiences, which is limited in scope), and think we should just forget the years of discussion which includes what they claim, and seriously consider their outrageous claims.

1) He's a tard because he asks for scholarly, peer-reviewed articles for the dumbest shit. There are no scholarly papers to prove the sky is blue. (And then he'll point out that some people are sunny-sky disabled.)

2) He's a tard because Freethought Blogs is ALL ABOUT EVIDENCELESS TESTIMONY. Shermer's a rapist. Radford committed sexual assault. A woman has a 90% chance of being gang raped if she goes to TAM. How do we know? Evidence-free personal testimony.
