Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She finally gets arrested in part 6 and they do the dozens with her as they slap on the handcuffs. It looks as though an AMBULANCE came to treat her MASSIVE injuries, too. I love that they all shouted 'HASHTAG YES ALL WOMEN' at her.

Wow...

Part 7 is funny, too. The guys shout, "she's resisting!" and she's crying.

Wow...they're chanting "Death to America" as she shouts "This is bullshit" and gets smooshed into the police car.

Even I had been very slightly hyperskeptical about his stories, especially about the one where robbers pulled a home invasion on him, broke into his padlocked refrigerator and stole the vaccine he had stored there for his charity work. In the commission of the crime the gang not only injured Avicenna but also hurt and traumatized Avi's dog Tigger too, to the point that Tigger developed canine PTSD and behavior problems.
If you were triggered by Tigger's fate, wait till you hear about Rocky:
I am a dalit. An untouchable. The niggers of India. I can tell you tales about us that would make you gag. I know families who ritually cleanse themselves when I walk into their house. I know that they keep separate glasses for me to use. I know they only tolerate me because I am the only person willing to work in such conditions in a job that leverages money. This is a relationship out of necessity.

Tigger is not my first dog. My first clinic dog adopted by all of us was called Rocky. Named by kids after Rocky Balboa. A big local hero. He met a rather gruesome end. To scare me away people cut his throat and hung him from a tree. It was a message. We cannot touch you, but those around you will suffer. Me and the other people who ran the clinic decided not to move and “levelled” up. We called on one of the most feared groups of people in India and gave them jobs.

It wasn’t every Indian who did this. But enough to poison my opinion. I mean, if I gave you a box of chocolates and just one of those chocolates was a piece of excrement, you would be wary of the whole damn box.

I have worked with the underside of India. Hookers, Hijra, Untouchables. I have eaten with some of the lowest of the low.

Boy, isn't Avicenna the unluckiest sap that ever lived? He's born an untouchable, they kill his dog, he comes to England and he's forced to eat pork, he's a victim of home invasion, and he can't even afford a new laptop.

And yet he finds time to go around the world and help everyone from India to the Philippines, he works as a forensic expert in a murder case that took place thousands of miles away from his hometown, and still finds time to write FTB articles, hang around on Twitter, and complain that he hasn't access to an Internet connection (while on the Internet, natch!).

He's not the hero the world deserves, but he's the one we need. He can make the choices that no one else can make. He's a loud healer, an insightful blogger. A White Knight.

What is atheist_club's point? It seems to be that providing women with indoor toilet facilities is the equivalent of forcing them into burqas, when instead, they should be free to piss and shit in the open like the guys.

Actually, no one should be doing that. Not because of the risk of rape, but because it's bloody unsanitary. Really, how hard is it to dig a pit latrine and screen it off, for simple hygiene reasons if nothing else. Many animal species have better sense than to just shit wherever they happen to be.

I heard a World Service report on this a few hours ago. The correspondent pointed out that it's quite a tricky business getting into an Indian field, because most people use the long grass at the edge as cover, and shit there. She also pointed out that many of the village houses with no toilet had motorbikes or cars parked outside. These are often purchased from daughter's dowries. So there's a commentary on the parent's priorities. We can't waste money providing the girl with a safe place to shit, but once we sell her off we can buy a car.

Taslima's going to have a hard time keeping the blame focussed on the patriarchy without sliding into racism by admitting that the female rape victims have mothers as well as fathers, and they all seem to rate hygiene and safety pretty low.

I saw a documentary on toilet acceptance in the developing world. Apparently people are quite suspicious of toilets. They are unnatural, and therefore not healthy.

While it is perfectly obvious to everyone that Ben Jonson wrote all of Shakespeare’s plays, it is less known that Ben Jonson’s plays were written by a teen-age girl in Sunderland, who mysteriously disappeared, leaving no trace of her existence, which is clear proof that she wrote them. The plays of Marlowe were actually written by a chambermaid named Marlene, who faked her own orgasm, and then her own death in a Deptford tavern brawl. Queen Elizabeth, who was obviously a man, conspired to have Shakespeare named as the author of his plays, because how could a man who had only a grammar-school education and spoke Latin and a little Greek possibly have written something as bad as “All’s Well That Ends Well”? It makes no sense. It was obviously an upper-class twit who wished to disguise his identity so that Vanessa Redgrave could get a job in her old age.

Many people believe that Richard III not only was a good man who would never hurt a fly but actually wrote “She Stoops to Conquer,” and that the so-called author, Oliver Goldsmith, found the play under a tree in 1773 while visiting Bosworth Field, now a multistory car park (clearly an attempt to cover up the evidence of the ruse). Oscar Wilde’s plays were written by a stable boy named Simon, though Wilde gave them both a good polish. Chaucer was written by a Frenchman on holiday, while Simone de Beauvoir wrote all of Balzac and a good deal of “Les Misérables,” despite the fact that she was not yet born when she did so. Beau Brummell wrote nearly all of Jane Austen, and two men and a cat wrote most of Charles Dickens, with the exception of “A Tale of Two Cities,” which Napoleon wrote while visiting St. Helena. Incidentally, Napoleon was not Napoleon but a man named Trevor Francis, who later turned up playing for Birmingham City.

Thomas Jefferson produced the Declaration with the aid of a ghostwriter, a woman of color named Betty Mae, who was a non-voluntary worker. “Moby-Dick” was written not by Herman Melville but by Herman Melbrooks, who wrote most of it in Yiddish on the boat over from Coney Island. “The Shorter Pepys,” a Penguin paperback, was actually written by the taller Pepys, a man named Doris Pepys, who was no relation but worked as a candle cleaner in Wapping (home of the Liar). Henry James did write all of his own works, because nobody else could be that boring, and, more significant, no one else has ever bothered to claim them.

Mere lack of evidence, of course, is no reason to denounce a theory. Look at intelligent design. The fact that it is bollocks hasn’t stopped a good many people from believing in it. Darwinism itself is only supported by tons of evidence, which is a clear indication that Darwin didn’t write his books himself. They were most likely written by Jack the Ripper, who was probably King Edward VII, since all evidence concerning this has been destroyed.

Paranoia? Of course not. It’s alternative scholarship. What’s wrong with teaching alternative theories in our schools? What are liberals so afraid of? Can’t children make up their own minds about things like killing and carrying automatic weapons on the playground? Bush was right: no child left unarmed. Why this dictatorial approach to learning, anyway? What gives teachers the right to say what things are? Who’s to say that flat-earthers are wrong? Or that the Church wasn’t right to silence Galileo, with his absurd theory (actually written by his proctologist) that the earth moves around the sun. Citing “evidence” is so snobbish and élitist. I think we all know what lawyers can do with evidence. Look at Shakespeare. Poor bloke. Wrote thirty-seven plays, none of them his.

For those experienced with babies: what do you do to make them tired? And, if they make that sad face when you leave them alone in their crib, how do you resist not picking them up? Feels like I'm spoiling the little princess. (She's 9 months old.)

I would lie down on the bed, a large pillow on each side of me and the baby on my chest where it can hear my heart beat. Sometimes I also had something that smelled like mom on my chest (like a used nightie or nursing bra). After awhile, the both of us would be fast asleep.

Also, I believe in spoiling the baby. Go ahead and pick her up.

ProTip: In any event, when the baby goes down to sleep you should too. Otherwise you are never going to get enough sleep.

The worst thing about the internet - this great thing of mankind - is that every asshole out there can get validation for whatever they believe.

I have a completely untested hypothesis that it's resulting in poor socialisation of some folks. Everybody goes through an adolescent phase, and what normally happens is your peer group gradually massages it out of you. Angry, lonely pasty metalhead? I was; eventually college and work shingled it out of me (though I still love the music..).

Nowadays you can sit in your bedroom and drown online in a sea of wankers that enable you, day in, day out.

It cannot be healthy.

Except in announcing that it's a "Bloody good theory", you are "enabling him".
And the circle continues! Although, by my own admission I suspect that I'm far worse in socialization skills.

Exactly. If there's anything more boring than people posting about something that doesn't interest you (and there is - surprise). It's someone posting to say that people are posting about something that doesn't interest them. Why would anyone enact the labour? It's just fucking noise.

Good thing you don't do that.

So how did Will Shakspere familiarize himself with Ovid?
The same way any grammar-school boy of the age would: first by reading it at school in the Royally-approved standard texts, and then by re-reading it in the original Latin later on in life, using any of the bazillion copies he could borrow from his richer and more educated colleagues.

http://www.shakespeare-online.com/biogr ... kread.html

A lot of the "anti-Stratfordian" position seems to be founded on an argument from incredulity. "Twelve-year olds reading classical latin? That's unpossible!" Well, no, it wasn't, that was the expected result of an education system that was entirely founded on classics.
Grammar school -- that where Shakspere also learned Greek, French and Italian? Studied History, Astronomy, Medicine and the Law? Did he take Falconry and Jousting in gym class? You have a fantasy view of what education for commoners was like in 16th century England.

How many years did Shakspere attend school? Oh, right ... we have no fucking clue! maybe six tops, maybe none. By all evidence, this man didn't even know how to write his own name, yet you have him riffing off Ovid in latin. Give me a break.

We have a narrative poem that everyone agrees was closely based on Ovid's Metamorphoses, and seek the author.

Candidate A is a commoner, perhaps with a few years of rudimentary education, with not a single scrap of paper in his hand surviving, who had to validate contracts with his mark, but who might have been allowed to borrow the text from people who might have been his friends and who might have owned the book.

Candidate B is the scion of one of the most powerful noble families in the land, from an early age had private tutors in every area of study imaginable, began composing poetry in Latin as a teenager, and attended university. Not only did his own uncle wrote the first English translation of Metamorphoses, he assigned sections of it to his nephew to translate for practice.

And you're going with Candidate A.

You leave them in the crib at night and go on about your normal business. She'll learn to settle herself, and how to sleep with normal background noise. You'll appreciate that in about 6-7 months. One of the points of this is to get her acclimated to your routine, and to the "now I am in the bed, it is time to sleep" concept. It takes a bit of time, but it eventually works. If she cries, check on her just long enough to make sure she's not in actual distress/trouble, and that her diaper's okay. Then leave the room. I did that with mine, check on him every so often. He cried a lot at first, then figured out that sleeping was a better option. The "go on with your normal routine" bit is to make sure they don't get to where they can't sleep without perfect silence. That ends up causing them real problems in life.

Also, when the baby sleeps, you sleep. Saved my ass, that bit of advice did.

I let them roam or feed them. Milk makes mine sleep. I resist picking them up because I ain't got time for that shit. My twins are 11 months at the moment or 9 months "real age" as they were premmies.

On the flip side, I now have access to a whole host of knowledge and human life experiences at the tips of my fingers. I can zoom out and read assessments, articles, papers & scientific studies about the human condition. I can zoom in to view groups. I can zoom in further to read about the life experiences of multiple other people on an individual level.

Personally, I think the knowledge & insight I have gained has greatly enhanced my life. Before that, how else could I gain such knowledge, insight & wisdom? Books, articles, human interaction, word of mouth?

Sure all of this information has it's limits without getting the fuck out of the house and applying it. And there is plenty of BS out there on the internet. But if you read enough you can tend to get a handle on how reliable the information is that you are receiving.

I guess there are two ways of going about it. If you are naturally curious and seek out people who do not think like yourself, agree with your current conceptions, nor live your type of life, you can learn one hell of a lot. If you only seek out minds like yourself, it doesn't leave you with a whole lot of opportunity for learning or growth.

Nothing...but I get what you are saying. And everyone is different.

If you are putting her to bed, give her at least 10 minutes of your full attention. That means holding her. Now, it's not fun time but more like quiet cuddle time. No talking or singing (unless there's quiet routine things already established). Steady slow breathing. Keep her close. Be soothing. If you are a man, don't use your deep man voice. Darkness is good.

If you are tending to her in the middle of the night. Do the same except do a slow count to 100. Slow. No rushing. If you can, don't pick her up unless she needs to be. But don't rush it. Put your hand on her body maybe, rather than picking her up. No sounds. Be even more quiet. Calm. Steady. Deliberate. Don't stumble or bang your foot. Be careful of outside hallway light leaking in.

Take note of signs of sleepiness. For example, one of my daughters would sort of shake her head in my chest. For her, if it took a full 30 minutes, then so it was. If it were 5 minutes, so it was. But once she gave me the sign it usually went well.

Now if you are baby sitting or just watching her temporarily and spending time with the baby is fun that's fine just don't over stimulate her. All those little hand games and such can keep her awake. Too much fun can too. Quiet, cuddle, touch, breathing together.

And sorry if this is just idiotic basic stuff. I don't know in what context the question is being asked.

Yeah, probably, I saw oolie's reasoning behind why it was okay for me to be put on the block list. It was "victim card" doesn't exist, and because of that, it is a tactic used to bully. Which is a bigger change from "dogpiling". I should probably stop laughing at it, as it doesn't seem to be all that big of an accomplishment, but it is nice to finally be put on the blockbot after two weeks of not being there.

Andrew, welch, rayshul, debaser, cheers. (And the rest of you silly people. :D) It's not mine, if that's what you're wondering. It's my niece. I'm just sitting.

I'll take what you've said to heart. (Except for the past few days, I know nothing about taking care of a baby, is why I'm asking.) Thanks all.

For her it's usually rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand. But I honestly can't tell sometimes, because she might do it one minute and then the next she's all hyper again. She also can't stay still for more than a minute before she starts fidgeting, moving her head around, curious about every nook and cranny. Luckily she fell asleep just now (it's just over 7 AM) and I'm going to bed, but she's like a puppy when you leave her alone!

Anyway. I'm gonna try to get forty winks. Bye for now.

I never did find out whether or not I was added to Hitler Club (level 1!). The twitter guy sponsored my membership, but last time I checked, I wasn't on any of the lists.

Oh definitely. There's red dumbasses, usually selling socialist worker magazine or trying to convince you Stalin was misunderstood. There's the Orange dumbass, usually old and ruddy men marching down streets with half ape inbreeds banging drums and slobbering over flutes who like being deliberately antagonistic to catholics because some dutchman won a battle some few hundred years ago. Yellow dumbasses who spend their time online bullying people because in real life even air hurts them. Green dumbasses who are likely to tell you that low level agrarian living is progress that we must protect animals and cull mankind. Blue dumbasses who tend to want to be tyrants or at least sycophants to tyrants. Indigo dumbasses, who think their kids are aliens and violet dumbasses who tend to chew gum like camels and think the world owes them a living.

And that's just the clearly visible ones.

Srsly, though - I second welch's & rayshul's advice above.

Taslima Nasreen's blog. Don't go there. Images of extreme violence right there without warning. This disagreement of values is pretty much identical to the one that had Ophelia Benson shvitzing about A+ for a while. The whole nasty truth must be displayed in the most shocking form possible, to rally for the cause! Versus some people around here who are don't think the vulnerable need eyeballs full of poison without any form of protection offered. I'm in pretty good shape emotionally, despite some rough circumstances. But I don't need to see that crap, come on!

Anyhow, I'm actually fine with her doing that in her space. I just wish I'd remember that about her and never click the FTB sidebar with childish abandon.
I think the reference to Benson is from the time OB posted a photo of girls in Africa undergoing hymen checks; I'm not sure if there have been other posts GAS and/or others at A+ forum felt were too triggering.

You know at the heart of all this "privilege" bullshit is really apathy and contempt. "I'm not going to even try to fucking change my miserable outlook so the whole world better change in order that I'm happy!"
