Okay, given what I know about her now, my answer is that is, if you pointed a gun at my head and told me to go near her, I'd pull the trigger for you.
Absent that information, if I just saw a picture and read her resume. I'd consider her eligible. She's a "7".
If you needed someone to post a number for me - ask Phil, he's met me in person.
If you look at Radford (aka Uncle Fester) and Baxter (aka Billy Joe Armstrong as Fat Elvis) then you could be excused for concluding there's an obvious explanation for them putting up with her demented shit.
Neither of these guys is that very high up on the food chain.
I don't claim to know what happened in all this, but I think a reasonable theory is that Stollznow is a predator. She seeks out guys who can't believe that a somewhat attractive, and definitely intelligent woman (apparently) wants them. They don't have the self-esteem to walk away from her bat-shittery and she despises them for it and feels entitled to torment and ultimately crush men who she sees as both spineless and beneath her, and who she honestly believes should be eternally grateful for her condescending to treat with them at all.
Just my two cents.
You might be on to something, but I think you forget what Radford(not Baxter) brings to the table. He's got some status (albeit in the rather small skeptic community), has some brains, and if you read their correspondence he certainly has more balls than Baxter. I think the real thing here is that Karen wanted to marry him, and he said no, probably because she is , indeed, batshit.
She 'settled' for Baxter.
I'm not entirely blaming Baxter in this. He's not perfect, and I think he's downright enabled her in this case, but I don't think he was the one pushing her to be evil (I think he wanted to negotiate with Radford more than SHE did), and every now and then he's tried to stand up to her.

Scalzi has the story bang on the mark, a rare thing indeed

Eich wasn't hounded out by SJWs, he was pressured by public opinion to a point of understanding that his views were incompatible and not aligned with Mozilla ... whatever good he has done for Mozilla in the past, even the abomination that is Javascript, it is irrelevant to how he would be perceived as the leader of Mozilla.

All he really had to do was apologise, show his views had evolved, and that he believed everyone deserved equality - he held fast to his "personal" views by refusing to comment, and for that he needs to find a role that is better aligned to his viewpoint

But he didn't donate money to the Klan.
He didn't donate money to a cause 150 years after the civil war for that cause.

He donated money to a cause that many Americans were conflicted about then, and are conflicted about now.
Friends he wants to deny any official recognition of their married status. That's some friend.
I have gay friends who opposed gay marriage themselves for quite sometime.

Of course anyone who supports feminist organizations like NOW wants to take away my parenting rights.
https://www.google.com/search?q=now+opp ... +parenting

Some friend feminists are. One day, shared parenting after divorce will be the norm and we will be shocked at the bullshit feminists got away with. That's the day the feminist CEOs and feminist employees get shoved out the door.

Some friends huh? Want to take away my parenting rights.

Or maybe we recognize that a change of values isn't as always as quick as we'd like, and that we value our friends for many different reasons.

When Eich's personal views are completely invisible to Mitchell Baker for 15 years, I see no evidence to believe his views would damage Mozilla. Do you have any evidence they would? Because I dislike firing people based on speculation and I dislike firing people based on personal beliefs that are not reflected in actual job performance.

You're right that he didn't apologize, but read this including his sorrow for having caused pain and his commitment to equality and tell me how certain you are his views had not evolved, or that he did not believe everyone deserves equality, or that it would matter in how he led Mozilla.

He donated money to an organization whose sole purpose was to TAKE AWAY the rights of others. Gay marriage was legal in California until Prop 8 passed. It wasn't just a matter of him holding an unpopular opinion. I don't give a shit what anyone thinks about anything, but when they turn those thoughts into actions that harm others then that is cause for concern. He was an active bigot, fighting to take away the rights of others, maybe not by burning a cross on someone's lawn but by donating money. Mozilla did the right thing pressuring him to leave.

I have read them, all I see is someone playing the PR game ... trying to appease, little more

He did not state in anything but a vague and non-committal way "all people deserve equal rights" - he wanted to ensure his religious views remained intact, a noble thing and good on him for sticking to his principles, but for that he had to go.

On looks alone I would say she's by far the best looking of all the skepchick bunch.

Trigger warning!!

http://i.imgur.com/021rPQb.jpg

If you ignore looks and just go by ability: again, she is head and shoulders above any of them (she's the author of several books, she has presented Point of Inquiry, she's given talks on real skeptical subjects for the past decade - and at no point ending up a laughing stock for getting the science entirely wrong - unlike a certain red or blue haired person we might name.)

So, there is a reason why men in the skeptical community would be attracted to her.
Why they would stay with her - or even marry her when they know how volatile she is, is another question.
Then again, we don't really know about the ones that got away.
I wonder if a certain well known skeptic who wears bicycle shorts (thanks Brian Thompson!) fits into the picture somewhere along the line...

Fucking picture... Wow. Look at watson's smile. WTF facial expression is that?

Also, There's like a 4-way tie, though I agree Stollznow is definitely among them. Also, honorable mention to the far left girl because I was looking at the wrong kind of internet too much lately.

With all the talk of fighting i'm going to offer some very quick self defence theory advice:

First off: run like fuck. Seriously forget your ego (something i have always always to do) getting into a fight just isn't worth it when you weigh the numbers, with the risk of both physical harm to your person, and legal consequence.

If that isn't an option. This is very, very simple advice. The overwhelming majority of attackers you face will be untrained. Physical confrontations are won or lost on momentum. You must take the momentum from your attacker. What this means in practice is advancing into your attacker, as counter intuitive as that may sound. Most persons act defensively when attacked, they back up as the attacker advances, this actually keeps you in optimal strike range, plus keeps the momentum with your attacker, who is encouraged by the submissive gesturing that backingup represents.

By advancing into your attacker you interrupt their momentum, throw their immediate plan (most attackers project their attacks no more than two strikes into the future) and move out of the optimal strike range (when your in close the attacker's strikes can't deliver their maximum potential effect).

When moving tuck your chin to your chest and your shoulders to your cheeks, present the hard of your head to the attacker but always keep your eyes on them. Hands should be loosely clenched over your head with palms toward attacker.

Get as close as you can and strike for the throat with a closed fist, directly or hammer, then bowl to the floor, remember this is all one continuos movement through momentum) and continue to strike for the throat, ideally maintaining as much of the guard i described before whilst on top. Stay tight and small, and use your balance to maintain position.

Lesson over, take it for what you will. Theory goes to shit when reality knocks.

Really?

It's a fucking mushroom. Christ, what is wrong with your filthy mind, you hypersexualized little girl?

I really struggle with fat people telling others how to behave, especially if I know they will lie and lie and lie with a straight face.

To be fair, most fat people don't do anything with a straight face .... usually with a very rounded and chubby face

He talks of dildos. Then he complains that I bring sex into things because I responded to a question that asked about it.
He mentions mushrooms -probably a habit.
Now he's seeing things.

This is sadly the known risk to your brain when you do drugs.
"OM" in this case clearly means - "Order of Mushrooms".

So I went to The Unbelievers tour on Friday. The movie was basically a condensed version of both Dawkins and Krauss's debates and speeches. There was this one part were all of the big name atheist were giving speeches and it showed PZ sitting right next to Dawkins, which I thought must have been very awkward for them. I think this was mentioned on the pit sometime ago.

So I paid $20 to meet Penn Jillette, Dawkins and Krauss, which I was only able to get a picture taken with Krauss and Penn, since Richard was only signing books, which I didn't have one with me.

I'm sick and tired of hearing things
From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocrites
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth

I've had enough of reading things
By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians
All I want is the truth

No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of Tricky Dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me

I just paid over $100 to see Penn and Teller at the Rio in Vegas and it was well worth the money. The opening act was jazz pianist Mike Jones with Penn playing bass, which was a surprise to me. The show itself was amazing, including one particle-physics based musical card illusion that Krauss helped to write, and they all were gracious enough to sign autographs and take pictures with the unwashed masses after the show.

About an hour ago in San Francisco, stripey girl stole a laptop (at the end of the video)

Interesting thread at Hacker New with several people, a significant number, blaming the victim for leaving the laptop while going to the restroom. I know when I lived in SF, (ten years ago), I would regularly leave laptops on the tables at coffee houses. I do that now to in the shithole I live.

I'm guessing that they'll do what Scientology did. They'll copy/paste their way into a packed audience:

http://www.imediaethics.org/News/456/Wa ... covery.php

Or they'll do what Fox News did, and just use pictures of a completely different event in a completely different place. That's how palm trees ended up at a Wisconsin protest.

Skeptech doesn't charge admission - it relies on donations, I think. At least that's the case this year.

Their main costs are probably travel expenses for speakers. It's held at U Minnesota, Willey Hall, so venue costs are probably pretty low.

So: There's no charge for admission, and it's on a university campus in a city with population of ~3 million people...yet attendance is that low? Wow.

Earlier today, the skeptech donation page had a "pitchin" logo-box-thingie showing they'd received $425 (from 3 donors), out of $1000 goal.

Recently there was a Surlyramic auctioned on ebay to raise funds for skeptech; it went for $42. There were 19 bids, 149 views, and 0 "shares", "likes", or "tweets".

~2 weeks ago they held a "gaming fundraiser", apparently the 12-hour game-a-thon Lousy Canuck wrote about on his blog. I don't see any mention of how much that raised.

The staff listed here consist of 2 co-lead organizers, 1 conference specialist, 1 stage manager, 1 A/V specialist, and 3 safe space coordinators. That works out to, what, 1 staff person per ~3 attendees, and 1 "safe space coordinator" per ~8 attendees?

Now, to be fair, this conference comes not too long after FtBConScience2 and less than 6 months after Skepticon (held ~600 miles away); the interest in free SJW-"skeptic" conferences in the Midwest may be kind of tapped out, right now.
