Nugent's post has received some attention already, but I'd like to point to it again. I think we should do what we can to spread this around.

IF you're of the mindset that PZ's various accusations and doxxing+calls for firing were a deflection from how badly Nugent was owning his ass, then you should especially take some time to spread this article around to various atheists, skeptics and interested parties.

This has been your daily Nugent shill post, thanks.
This has been RT 19 time already. Including once by yours truly.

For years I thought cats were useless and pointless. Then I gave some poor cat a home, under protest, as he had nowhere else to go. He was selfish, hated being stroked or picked up, meowed constantly as he knew it annoyed me and only took interest in anything when it wanted feeding. About 5 years later it died of old age. I was gutted and even now, several months later, I miss him.

Us humans are soppy, stupid and gullible when it comes to animals. They treat us like crap yet we go back for more.

A lengthy article about false statements made by tentacle rape enthusiast and liar PZ Myers.
Nugent seems to take on a bit of a Steersman quality when really digging into a subject.

It's the old 'use "as-far-as-I-know" as a justification for any old bollocks' ploy again !

I have read "The End of Faith", and what you'll find if you do is that Harris doesn't express any views which can be called pro-torture or would disagree with your statement that "torture is wrong".

What Harris did was to cite our commonly attitudes to torture vs people being killed as collateral damage in military operations as an example of what he termed a "moral illusion". These are akin to 'optical illusions', and the point is that the moral revulsion we feel in the two cases doesn't scale with the suffering and loss inflicted in each case. We are deeply repulsed by the idea of a party deliberately inflicting suffering on somebody under their power giving them no chance to escape, but less so at the idea of a party choosing a course of action which will only probably cause suffering and if so, to people who are in the wrong place at the wrong time, where the actual individuals who suffer are determined by 'fate' instead of deliberate choice, even though the actual amount of suffering might be much greater in the second case.

It's all about a comparison of the degree of moral revulsion against the amount of suffering and why they may be disproportionate.

Harris does not say "torture is right" and he also makes the point that torture is ineffective because people lie under torture. Far from wanting to argue that torture is a good thing, he expresses relief that the ineffectiveness of torture somewhat lets us and himself off the hook from having to go so against our moral sense.

It's a disquieting idea, to be sure, and not least because it causes us to distrust our moral intuitions, but it's not advocacy for torture, neither is it dangerous speech even if it perhaps breaks a taboo. He does not deserve for it to be cheaply mischaracterised by those who want to discredit him.

You don't have to make shit up in order to prove you're not a hero-worshipper !
As far as I know. Yes. Straight from the horse's mouth.

Sam Harris, "In Defense of Torture"
Imagine that a known terrorist has planted a bomb in the heart of a nearby city. He now sits in your custody. Rather than conceal his guilt, he gloats about the forthcoming explosion and the magnitude of human suffering it will cause. Given this state of affairs--in particular, given that there is still time to prevent an imminent atrocity--it seems that subjecting this unpleasant fellow to torture may be justifiable. For those who make it their business to debate the ethics of torture this is known as the "ticking-bomb" case.
I am one of the few people I know of who has argued in print that torture may be an ethical necessity in our war on terror. ... I will now present an argument for the use of torture in rare circumstances. While many people have objected, on emotional grounds, to my defense of torture, no one has pointed out a flaw in my argument.
He does say that he wants "to be standing side by side with all the good people who oppose torture categorically" but even after people pointed out to him, politely and not so politely, that torture doesn't work, he still stood by his position. In fact, some time later he wrote this follow up, "Response to controversy" where he elaborates on his position.
In one section of the book (pp. 192−199), I briefly discuss the ethics of torture and collateral damage in times of war, arguing that collateral damage is worse than torture across the board. Rather than appreciate just how bad I think collateral damage is in ethical terms, some readers have mistakenly concluded that I take a cavalier attitude toward the practice of torture. I do not. Nevertheless, there are extreme circumstances in which I believe that practices like “water-boarding” may be not only ethically justifiable, but ethically necessary. This is not the same as saying that they should be legal (Crimes such as trespassing and theft may sometimes be ethically necessary, though everyone has an interest in keeping them illegal).
I am not alone in thinking that there are potential circumstances in which the use of torture would be ethically justifiable. The liberal Senator Charles Schumer has publicly stated http://adf.ly/2790808/SaveFrom.net that most U.S. senators would support torture to find out the location of a ticking time bomb. Such scenarios have been widely criticized as unrealistic. But realism is not the point of these thought experiments. The point is that unless your argument rules out torture in idealized cases, you don’t have a categorical argument against torture. As nuclear and biological terrorism become increasingly possible, it is in everyone’s interest for men and women of goodwill to determine what should be done if a person appears to have operational knowledge of an imminent atrocity (and may even claim to possess such knowledge), but won’t otherwise talk about it.
My argument for the limited use of coercive interrogation (“torture” by another name) is essentially this: If you think it is ever justifiable to drop bombs in an attempt to kill a man like Osama bin Laden (and thereby risk killing and maiming innocent men, women, and children), you should think it may sometimes be justifiable to water-board a man like Osama bin Laden (and risk abusing someone who just happens to look like him).
Now I didn't say Harris said "torture is right", I said he was pro-torture. Which he is. In certain circumstances. He's also in favour of profiling at airports.

I kind of feel bad for Nugent. Posts on the divide between "first" and "third" world catholicism and criticism of Islam, garners few comments. The ridiculous sideshow of moronic american bloggers being worthless retards? 500+ comments! "Dear Muslima" was 100 percent truth. None of this whiny internet drama bullshit matters one iota. Dawkins should've stuck to his guns.
Hypocritical on my part I know, even following the pit as assiduously as I do makes me part of the problem. I kind of wish I was still as knowledgeable of PZ Myers, Rebecca Watson and their ilk as the average atheist worldwide, i.e not at all. These narcissistic cunts can't manage to gaze beyond the lint in their fat navels for even half a hearbeat. Everything has to revolve around their disgustingly fabricated sense of victimhood.

Serious question: has PZ ever, in the history of Pharyngula, apologized for anything? I know he's sort of known for refusing to apologize even when shown to be manifestly wrong, but just wondering if ever, maybe years ago, he apologized for something. Anyone know?

Question: I'm trying to post at a blog in Patheos, which uses Disqus. It recognizes my email and password but rejects my username.
I assume I must have registered with a Disqus blog in the past using a nym I now don't remember. Is there a way to reset with another username or do I have to start a new email account and begin from scratch?

That's because the introspection is basically nowhere discussed and the "movement" fails to provide even the most basic skepticism and critical thinking in that department. Together with the considerable heat the topic generates, plus years of distortions that were never propably addressed, plus new even more extreme accusations are enough to gather a lot of attention. I also wonder why people think this is somehow a non-issue.

It is far from a non-issue. If skepticism cannot help people to see blatant propaganda, it is basically useless. It is good that charlatans are exposed and all that, but that's small fish compared to entire authoritarian/totalitarian/cultish worldviews that can spring up and go by unexamined because people believe they are the good guys and somehow think they figured it all out just because they no longer believe in God. You don't want to deconvert evangelicals and end up with fascists.

Yep. The poor fool went as far as redacting his memories of courtship; implanting within them the concept of consent - just to impress his audience - just to prove his feministic bona-fides. He'll happily confess any crime against feminism, real or imagined, so long as he gets to publicly repent.

Has anyone done a study on the percentage of SJW feminists who have rape/submission fantasies?

I want to see that study.

Lighten up, Frances. ;)
Not as bad as a friend I had at University whose name was Gene.

It drove him potty when people thought they were being funny with "Hi Gene".

Years later I worked together with a woman called "Jean" and she was also not amused by that either.

Being a smartass about it did backfire on one person.

They had already been through Microsoft Second Line Enterprise tech-support and his case got escalated to me. I was pretty sure I knew what was going on because I recognised it as something similar that I had spent days on to solve months earlier.

When I said my name he used the diminutive of it. I told him not to do that again. He told me to lighten up and used the diminutive again and I hung up - the solution to his problem was a purely Microsoft problem and nothing to do with our stuff. I told the English line that he was banned and that neither I nor any of my boys would talk to him.

About four hours later I was handed an absolutely grovelling E-Mail sent into the English line from the guys boss. I told the boss of the English line to send an E-Mail back that I would talk to them when the guy I had been talking to was gone.

I got in at 9AM the next morning and told that the company was in the queue for me. The guy on the line was very careful to avoid using my name at all. I found out from him that the other guy was suspended pending a disciplinary.

I really do hate every diminutive of my name.

Although, knowing that I am German I would have thought you would have gone with "Fritz" instead of "Frances". :P
Richard? Rich or Dick.
I'll tell you one thing that if I were so close to the nuclear football or had so much access to clandestine wetwork specialists as someone in the Whitehouse I would not allow anyone to call me Dick Cheney, that's for sure - or maybe THAT'S why the guy got shot in the face.

Whenever I meet a Robert it always reminds me of the joke I heard when I was a kid, "What do you call a guy with no legs or arms in the water? Bob".

Or the writer of the book "Nails on the Bannister", R. Storneaway

Or the names used to jazz up the local crematorium:

"Come see Elizabeth Fry"
"Watch Robert Browning".
"See Captain Cook"
"A Rabbie Burns night to remember".

And let's face it that one Senator really does have a cursed name - Senator Mike Crapo (who insists it be pronounce "Craypo").

And speaking of Michael, who would want a name like Mike Hunt.

I did piss myself laughing one time when I was talking to someone and found out that the name of his company was "Kuntz Consulting" when I looked at the entry in the database. It is a very common German name but when I saw that written down I just cracked up.

Seems like the logical conclusion of this "action is bad, wanking is good, shitposting is better" Chivalric Code.

Why wouldn't you go ahead and give your real names and information to people who have proven they love to dox, harass and try to fire those who say things they don't like? Why not list right here on this forum, which they can read and do read, which of your various names or nyms are your actual legal name?

It's not like they've ever accused people of committing rape without any evidence to prove their claims, and then gone on in future to list that person as a "confirmed rapist."

I can't see any way for this to backfire.

I tried to, but whenever I slide a consent form across the table for them to sign, they run screaming from the room. Fucking IRB is covering for them. The IRB is stocked with rape-fantasy apologists.

Here is the thing. I was a semi-regular participant in the evolution vs. creation wars under my IRL name, despite living in one of the most religiously retrograde areas of the US. I never operated with a fear that any of the worst of the creationists, like Davescot, Sal Cordova, or William Dembski would ever try to go after me in real life. Yet here I am operating under a pseudonym completely unrelated to my real name because of the completely immoral, reactionary behaviors of PZ, Greg Laden, Stephanie Zvan, et al.

Says a lot, doesn't it?

Feminist rape fantasies involving male feminist allies = 0.0%

Male ally fantasies involving reward of sex for rescuing feminist damsel in distress from rape by big bad alpha wolf = 100.0%

Yeah.

To A+ and FTB regulars for not being ideologically pure enough. I'm sure he's apologized for past thoughtcrimes against feminism. :cdc:
Has he, though, or just memory holed them because they were "too easily misconstrued"? :?

It was kind of shocking the first time he retracted/edited a post for something like that. I don't recall him ever doing that, not even when he got some basic science wrong.

I don't think it is my autism, I think that probably most "normals" have something that would make them react similarly if the other person deliberately repeated the words or actions.

I have to admit that when someone does air quotes in front of me I get a barely resisted urge just to take their fingers and bend them back as far as they will go.

But the biscuit has to be taken by this muppet in Thunderf00t's video:

Never mind the whiney voice, but if she were talking with her arms like that in front of me I would be sorely tempted to break them - and I don't mean just one of the arms nor in one place either.

Don't even get me started on the morons who pronounce the word "Herbs" as "Erbs". It does not come from the French where the "H" is silent, it comes from the Latin word "Herba" (grass) and in Latin the "H" is most certainly NOT silent.

Male feminist allies are mentally raping feminist women by having sexual fantasies that aren't reciprocated or consented to. More evidence of rape culture.

Good column and he really hits it out of the park, here:
SJW’s, and the media that supports them, have become the speculators and bankers of moralistic capital on the internet…and their bubble is starting to burst. They received back pats, congratulations and clicks (profit) when nothing of value was actually offered. They peddled in assets of self righteous indignation that when more closely analyzed for intellectual and ethical merit are noticeably lacking

To someone he's libeled, slandered, straw-manned, insulted, brow-beat, raged at and/or helped to dox, or wreck their life? No. I'm sure he's apologized to his 'horde' for not being a big enough douche at times. But that hardly counts in my book.
