If I understand this:

+ Something happens or doesn't happen. This is a private issue between two people.
+ CFI investigates and not much happens. This is a private issue between two people and one or two organizations.
+ Stollznow from the Parapet of Scientific American attacks on the battlefield of public relations
+ Radford defends in public.
+ Stollznow spins that defense as an attack and raises funds threatening another attack again describing that attack as her being a victim.

Radford now appears to have no options other than to:

+ continue his defense which he may not be able to afford
+ withdraw and accept likely global PR recognition he sexually assaulted Stollznow

I don't know what happened, and I am not saying nothing happened, nor am I saying that going to court, or printing an ad is out of the question, I am just saying in the "olden" days, Radford and anyone in his position had other options too, namely "move".
