He talked about it in one of his driving while recording himself videos. I just figured he was flat out lying. Granted there are sex clubs and what not that go down pretty much as M.D. described. There's at least one that I know of called The Vault, in NYC. I've never been there but I've heard stories....true or not, I can't say. It sounds repulsive to me.Tigzy wrote:I think it was something to do with conference harassment policies - Dolly once mentioned that even swingers/bondage/something of that ilk conferences have harassment policies. Yeah that was it. He sounded like he was speaking from experience. You'd think that swingers parties would have an extra special need for harassment policies just on the basis that there's a bunch of horny naked people walking around stroking their dicks/pussies, but whatever. I don't really have a problem with atheist conferences having them either. Go nuts.

Milky Loads just cannot let go of Bill Clinton can he?Gefan wrote:From Andrew Sullivan's blog (re the striking down on DOMA):
10.34 am. Kennedy money quote:
Though these discrete examples establish the constitutionality of limited federal laws that regulate the meaning of marriage in order to further federal policy, DOMA has a far greater reach; for it enacts a directive applicable to over 1,000 federal statutes and the whole realm of federal regulations. And its operation is directed to a class of persons that the laws of New York, and of 11 other States, have sought to protect.
Translation: the feds may tinker with some aspects of a state’s civil marriages, but they may not remove an entire class of persons from equal protection. This is a conservative point – and DOMA was a betrayal of conservative federalism in favor of Christianist big government. I actually made that case sitting in front of the House hearings on DOMA. The Republicans were uninterested. They knew what they were about to do: gay-bait their way to re-election in 1996. And so Bill Clinton – a constitutional lawyer who signed this bill and who ordered his Justice Department to declare that it had no constitutional issues with it at all – gay-baited back. Today is as much a rebuke to the cynicism of Bill Clinton as it is to the fanaticism of the GOP.

If you have good communication and a good relationship it's no big deal.Tony Parsehole wrote:I always wonder how swingers get into swinging. How to you broach the subject of fucking other people, to your missus, without getting a slap?
The general rule in the lifestyle is that it makes the good relationships better and puts the bad ones out of their misery.

Parsehole might manage to talk his missus into joining a swinger club only to turn up the first night and find it's Dillahunty's club!
Re: Jim the Pleb Made Me Do It
I've known a handful (from the early 1980s) in my time. It pretty much worked out like this:Tony Parsehole wrote:I always wonder how swingers get into swinging. How to you broach the subject of fucking other people, to your missus, without getting a slap?
1. Guy brings up subject "open marriage" or "open relationship."
2. Gal is not enthused, some ups-and-downs occur, but eventually changes mind.
3. Guy is (relatively) luckless, while gal gets all the dick (and vagina if she goes that way, too) she wants.
4. Guy thinks this is now BAD IDEA but gal is really enjoying it (though at least some of it seemed to be 'revenge fucking').
5. Divorce.
Now, my experience with these people is limited (I dated a woman who lived in Morehouse, now called Lafayette Morehouse, before I met her and she kept some of those friends). But in the few instances I've seen it, it's always gone that way.
With the advent of the Internet and other changes... I don't know how it works in that community any longer, though I'm sure there are sites they use to find like individuals so there's probably a far smaller risk of two incompatible people getting together.

Enjoy (if that's the right word).
Gives me a chance to post the final scene of one the earliest and best "gay-themed" movies. From a time (not that long ago) when marriage equality was unthinkable, and featuring the almost unbearably mournful "Post Mortem Bar" by Zane Campbell.Bless the souls of those whose courage in extremis gave me and others the strength not to falter in pursuit of their dignity as human beings and their equality as citizens. We did it in part for those we left behind. And part of the reason I am crying right now is remembering them. I want them to come to the party. I want them to see they didn’t die in vain.

No, they wanted to move their blog. It was just 'cute' to blame it on Myers later for internet points.
Likewise, Mooney has always fancied himself A Very Important Individual. As someone already stated, compare the traffic stats of Mother Jones vs CFI. Im pretty sure hes been wanting to move for a while, but Ron is just a handy scape-goat.
Srsly, hes done this before.
Alexa Rankings:
Mother Jones #6171 world wide
CFI #102,319 world wide.
Yeah, it was all about horrible impact of the Lindsay speech... Oh, wait, CFI has been slowly (over the past year-and-a-half) going down in the rankings, not up. Through much of 2012, they were pretty steady at 60,000ish ranking. Now, well, they're pretty much mired in the 100K+ rankings and still dropping.
Meanwhile Mother Jones has bounced up-and-down in the 5000-to-10000 webtraffic range. A big, big step up from where Mooney was...

Oh come on, Sara! You know that, in addition to being an internationally recognized researcher in Evolutionary Biology *and* Evolutionary Psychology, and a noted 1st Amendment legal scholar, Rebecca Watson also excels at traveling the world giving talks to lay persons on all of these topics.
Thus, in addition to her seminal contributions in the areas of her expertise, she is also an important communicator helping bridge the gap between the knowledge of those active in their academics fields and the general population at large.
The world would be a poorer place if someone maliciously orchestrated a boycott of her talks. Shame on you!

Now that wouldn't be *too* bad a twist actually. Could be much worse. My main fear of fucking it up is them introducing a time-travelling aspect like all desperate series seem to do nowadays. Has anyone else noticed that Ophelia has finally got around to putting up a post (a copy and paste with a few lines added from herself), "discussing" the Wired article? This is AGES after everybody else remarked on it!
It is essentially her opening the door for her rabid acolytes to have another stab at Dawkins. Hey, I guess it's a slow news day, after all.
Boy, are they STILL majorly butthurt about not getting their "apology". Personally, if I was Dawkins, I'd tell Rebecca and all the other Baboons to go and fuck themselves - HARD.

Thanks!Tony Parsehole wrote:It was a damn good animation considering you never used Paint.Net before. How did you do it?
- (in PaintShop Pro) I found a photo of each of them that were similar in facial expressions.
- I roughly took a clip of Tom's head and rotated it and resized it until it approx matched Amanda's.
- I made a temp clip of Amanda's head area for use later in color matching.
- (in Paint.net) I changed Tom's coloring to match the temp clip of Amanda's using the color match plugin. At first I got an error that the pic was too small so I went back into PSP and doubled the temp clip's size, and this time it worked when I went back to paint.net and color matched.
- (in PaintShop Pro) I selected Tom's face and a bit of his hair, and with a feathered brush, made a picture #2 that looked like Amanda's pic, but with Tom's face (had to also use push brush a bit to blend edges better) and name.
- (in FotoMorph) I used the Amanda picture as the starting pic, and the Tom version as the ending pic.
- I fiddled with making points that tell the program which parts of the two pics correlate.
- Told it to morph and return, then saved it as an animated gif.
I think it took me less time to do than write down! :)

Not a chance. Dawkins is doing exactly the right thing - ignoring them entirely. :clap:CommanderTuvok wrote:Has anyone else noticed that Ophelia has finally got around to putting up a post (a copy and paste with a few lines added from herself), "discussing" the Wired article? Tony, you're forgetting that many of the psychological defences employed by the Baboons, are the same ones that affect the religious. It is only after they have left their religion behind, that they can see the error of their ways. Same goes for the Baboons. I fear there is no hope for folk like Watson and Myers, for they are the equivalent of suicide bombers, or Fred Phelps. However, some of their less indoctrinated members could be enticed to see the light and leave the FfTB cult behind.Tony Parsehole wrote: EBW. Restoring my faith in humanity one tweet at a time.

Someone should tell her about Equity Feminism. It might be more to her flavor and appears more rational.Tony Parsehole wrote: EBW. Restoring my faith in humanity one tweet at a time.

Then she slips him a mickey and next finds himself in the middle of a Matt Dillahunty swingers' orgy.

I detect a tingling of cognitive dissonance on their boards regarding Chris Mooney.CommanderTuvok wrote:Tony, you're forgetting that many of the psychological defences employed by the Baboons, are the same ones that affect the religious. Mooney hasn't moved an inch towards them from his hated accomodationist position of just three years ago and yet they now find themselves all tucked up in the same bed.
What was it about Mooney that so annoyed the gnu atheists?
1. He criticised the new atheists for being extremists who used crude language and insults.
2. He claimed their behavior frightened certain under-represented groups away from the cause.
3. He supported those who claimed they had a right not to be offended.
4. He used every opportunity to complain about and criticize Richard Dawkins.
Now, like frogs brought gently to the boil, the same pharyngulites who hated Mooney for his dishonest accomodationist policies find themselves having shifted their views, an inch at a time, until they are now advocating the very same things, albeit with different targets (Mooney's accomodationism was all about getting moderate religious people onboard to bolster political support for climate change measures.)
The principle is, however, the same in both cases - compromising skeptical principles for political advantage and setting up another group of atheists as the extremist bogey-man to which hate can be directed.
