So let me get this straight. If the FtB/Skepchick crowd *THINKS* a course of action would make us angry and rage, they will want to do it.

Clearly this inane tendency could not be abused.

M'kay. Not entirely unlikely that I could have failed to comb the argument from the thicket.
It does get complicated quickly – devil in the details and all that. Hence the justification for the use of analogies. As Crommunist put it some time ago:
Analogy is an excellent method of exposing inconsistencies in logic, which is an important component of refuting bad arguments.
Although the situation is not helped when so many people – from Ophelia to Justin – appear to have so many difficulties with the concept and its application.
Still leaves the hypocrisy charge intact. Pissy owes others the recognition that they are no different than he used to be if they don't obey his rules, unless of course he was appointed supreme arbiter of absolute morality and werdz 'n shit on the sly.
I’ll readily agree to throw stones at PZ for that “self-appointment as arbiter” as I think that whole concept of “splash damage” is evidence of him having his head well up his own ass. Certainly understandable if people react to insults directed at other people, but most people – skeptics at least – are going to, or should, question whether there is any merit in the insult before going off the deep end in response.

However your “still leaves the hypocrisy charge intact” is rather questionable. If it is relative to incidents of other people using words such as “slut” before his “Papal Encyclical” in August of last year then you might have a case. But if it is afterwards then I don’t think so; you can say he is wrong because his standard is entirely bogus, but he isn’t being hypocritical – unless you have evidence of him actually using such words after that date. You have any of that?

Personally, I think it was a tactical error on Lindsey's part as getting the FtB/Skepchick crowd to voluntarily divorce themselves from your organization like JREF did seems to be a much better long term solution.

The more an organization continues to play ball with them, the more they will drag them down and continue to tarnish their image. But with that said, Lindsey coming out and saying something additional to this situation and an apology of sorts is not unexpected and a mark of professionalism.

So I just saw a second reference to Terror Management Theory (TMT) in as many days:
Becker didn’t want his final work, Escape From Evil, published because he thought it was too cynical but the only way to dispel a darkness is to turn on a light. What makes Becker’s work significant is that, though he practised “soft science,” Terror Management Theory (TMT) has now progressed his ideas and accumulated empirical evidence that his assessment of the human condition was correct.

People have learned to fetishize perceived evil, giving it a killable form, in order to gain false security in an uncontrollable world in which they find themselves immersed. This is where feminism comes in with a jackhammer and pulverizes the residual cement that held marriages intact. When they declared men to be the source of evil, feminists created a bonding group to which women could cling while they set about exterminating the threat. It’s absurdly unique that the movement demanded that the threat remove itself then blamed the enemy for abandoning their stations.
Well to me it is questionable that generic feminism holds that view (I tend to exclude the equity feminists for starters) but I can see it within the baboon narrative(s) and I can also see where it might apply here also as far as "bonding" goes anyway.

2) Vasectomies. I know that we've moved on, but, mine was actually done up in my pubic area rather than my scrotum. Local anaesthetic; nurse shaves off two patches of hair; cock feels like rubber when she moves it around; doctor tears the skin rather than cuts it; does snip and removes section; butterfly thingy attached; go home; have panadol; wank three times to be sure; and now have carefree sex whenever I want it. Ok, the last bit is wishful thinking, but I could if I wanted to.

In general, I've hated most conferences for at least two decades, once I'd been to a few and realized most of the speakers were on a conference circuit, rarely bringing anything new up, mainly just shilling their books and crap, and that new speakers were vanishingly rare.

I guess I hadn't realized that the real purpose of the conference was a company paid vacation and alcohol and sex.

It's that self-magnifying echo loop they've got going on. In two days, they've bootstrapped themselves from sour to a giddy froth. It's positively festive right now in parts of FtB and Skepchick, since they've convinced themselves the neon-green checkerboard sweater was exactly what they wanted for Xmas all along. I know that feeling. I used to live where C-5s would occasionally depart and would get a thrill of fear every time I saw one of those huge, lumpy things hanging in the sky. It just looked impossible that something so ungainly and (seemingly) slow-moving was actually flying and not stalling.

Last I heard of him, literally, was when he was on a Christian Podcast telling the Pastor how the atheist community was full of evil misogynists while managing to ignore the fact the pastor kept saying 'why can't you control your women?'

I like going to conferences (work or occasionally otherwise) where I know there'll be quite a few talks I wouldn't hear otherwise. Great to have a couple of days to focus on new info & ideas and have no other responsibilities, rather than try to squeeze in a little reading or some videos during or in between all the other stuff on my plate (work, chatelaine of home/family, etc). I tend to take lots of notes and come up with ideas that I don't necessarily do anything about, but were fun to think about. :)

Agreed. Some of them clearly did want Lindsay ousted. But as having either Melody or Watson replace him, that boils down to wishful dreams.
Yeah that's about as far as you can get from "evidence" ... shame, she didn't do herself any favours by hyping up her behind the scenes bombshells, and then posting that.

Sure, there's a lot of bollocks and claptrap talked, and she exposed that, but no great plots to take over the world ... not so much Machiavelli, more like Pinky and the Brain
Sorry if this is duplicate:

Stephanie Zvan has the same take on it, except that given the length of her post seems (IMO of course) like overkill. And note that PZ got in the first reply. Coincidence, probably.

So uhhhhmmm, regarding vasectomies.

Last summer I dated a guy who was the first one I've been with who was snipped.
Gotta say, his man juice was near tasteless and it didn't mess up the smell or taste of my lady parts at all.
It was very nice!
Just to clarify: you allow a man to spaff his beans into your mouth at the conclusion of a blowjob, and you are capable of and willing to go facedown into your own muff.

I...could you...can I...would it be possible to...*faint*

Justin Griffith wrote this at EllenBeth's blog today:
Even if Paul had said this:

“I am sorry that I caused offense with my privilege. I am also sorry I made some people feel unwelcome as a result of my privileged comments. I now have a better understanding of the objections to my privileged comments.

Please accept my apologies.”

The groveling would have earned him less than nothing. Ask Ron. Or any other witch of the week. I’m glad to see so many people waking up to this – naked emperor and all that.

Paul is an excellent activist and has done more for this movement than most ever will. I’m reminded of Dave Silverman’s quip from last year:

“It seems to me that people have come up with the idea that they have the right to not be offended. And that right that they have, to not be offended, supersedes your freedom of speech…”
"Paul" is a person attacked by one Stephanie Soreassi with the "privilege" weapon in the main article.

I do not care. Boast about it all you want but you have to post a GIF/JPEG/Video here as proof or it never happened.
