I agree with her message as well. I thinking posing for the photo is one of the more "activist" things that any of that bunch have accomplished, tbh.
As a gross anatomy instructor, I've seen lots of different human bodies - mostly older, well-fed, and somewhat worse for wear bodies. Entropy is not kind to the vertebrate body plan.
Yeah, that photo doesn't bother me at all. Her demonising Justin Vacula is infinitely more offensive, in my opinion.

Re penis size... not that I'm like obsessed or anything, heheh... but from what I've read, there is only one proven indicator that a guy's penis will be sizeable. Compare the length of their ring fingers with their index fingers.
The closest the index and ring fingers are to being the same length as each other, the more likely a large penis. The more difference in length between the index and ring fingers, the more likely that the guy's penis is small.
Sorry, I have no citation links, but it was blogged about a year or two ago and was based on some legit sounding study. Had to do with the level of testosterone also, if I'm remembering this correctly.
Well, that's some awesome bullshit woo, as far as I'm concerned.
the preliminary studies seems to find this (absolutely nothing to do with penis size):
Some scientists believe that the ratio of index finger length to ring finger length indicates how much testosterone we were exposed to in our mother's womb.
Higher testosterone exposure is thought to lead to a longer ring finger. This is determined as early as 14 weeks into a pregnancy.
On average, women's index and ring fingers are almost equal in length because they are exposed to less testosterone. In men, the ring finger tends to be longer because they have higher testosterone levels. In general, women exposed to more testosterone have more 'masculine hands' – ie longer ring fingers.
It has been suggested by some scientists that the ratio of two digits in particular, the 2nd (index finger) and 4th (ring finger), is affected by exposure to androgens e.g. testosterone while in the uterus and that this 2D:4D ratio can be considered a crude measure for prenatal androgen exposure, with lower 2D:4D ratios pointing to higher androgen exposure. The 2D:4D ratio is calculated by dividing the length of the index finger of the right hand by the length of the ring finger. A longer index finger will result in a ratio higher than 1, while a longer ring finger will result in a ratio of less than 1.
The 2D:4D digit ratio is sexually dimorphic: while the second digit is typically shorter in both females and males, the difference between the lengths of the two digits is greater in males than females.
A number of studies have shown a correlation between the 2D:4D digit ratio and various physical and behavioral traits.

In the third paragraph - "altered" should probably be "alerted".
And I disagree with this characterization in the penultimate paragraph: "While it may be the case that women experience sexual assault, harassment, and rape in society-at-large". Women do experience those crimes in society-at-large, there is no need to qualify it with "may be the case" - and in fact I wouldn't be surprised if Marcotte or Benson quote mine that one. In discussing other crimes in the following paragraph you do not use the same formulation, you state it as a fact: "Armed robbery, murder, arson, forgery, computer theft, use of crack/cocaine, and consumption of child pornography occurs in society-at large."

As I said earlier, Weather Channel guys and one of our crews got caught by the tornadoes, hard, when the tornado 1) abruptly turned south (not normal behavior), and 2) got larger at the same time. We all watched Emilys crew get caught, live (see my "EMILY SUTTON DONT DIE!!!" status update on FB).
There are lots of different kinds of tornadoes, of varying intensities. They need to see the tornadoes/vortexes and what theyre doing to know how bad it is, what people in the path of the storm need to do.
Duh, storm trackers must be adrenaline junkies, but they also perform a service that can save lives.
Also, whats up with Myers not wanting to see the human side of the storm? A scientist calling a rare opportunity to observe something 'boring' is... odd.
Also, this recent storm highlighted what I said earlier about Myers 'RUN AWAYZ!' 'HIDE IN UR BASEMANT!'-- People tried to run away. Like I said before, they got caught in traffic/no shelter/etc. People *died* running away yesterday. And peoples basements/storm shelters are shit when they are UNDERWATER. Like what happened yesterday.
Going to Myers for commentary on tornadoes is like coming to me for commentary on auto repair. I dont know jack fucking shit about auto repair.

The problem with the way you phrase things is that you come across as being completely skeptical that "sexual assault, harassment, and rape" could possibly occur (at all!) unless you have solid credible evidence that it actually has. Whereas I think a more credible stance is that the rate at which such crimes occur in that setting likely are very much lower than in society at large, and that any claim that it is at a rate high enough to constitute "a problem" needs to be supported by evidence.

And that’s why I don’t get this. What the hell is going on? Maybe you think the line I quoted is pretending on Ophelia’s part? (If so, I think you are wrong.) And if not, why do you do this to her? In general: what’s the point of concentrating on a particular, very narrow group of bloggers and have a whole site dedicated (to a large degree) to taunting them? What’s the point of making them feel hunted down, surrounded every day and every hour by a crowd of hostile paparazzis? "
There's several points to make here. First is, "very narrow group of bloggers". Well, I don't really see it as all that narrow. There's several blogs on FTB, there's skepchick, there's the A+ forums, and there's some people on Twitter/Facebook/etc. While it's true that FTB gets most of the focus, that's because it's the "largest". It's also worth pointing out that "slymepitters" also talk about other issues too (for example, many of us are critical of some things AVFM has to say). It's worth pointing out even more that sometimes, we actually agree with our "targets". Recently, I gave credit to several comments on B&W that called out "Kevin" for saying that abused people often become abusers themselves.
Anyway, let's talk about taunting and harassment. If somebody says something publicly, especially about me or one of my friends, I have a right to respond, and I'm going to exercise that right anywhere I'm able. Now, if the person I'm responding to is trying to make a point, and wants to engage detractors on it, awesome. I can be civil even if I strongly disagree. But if they don't want to engage, the gloves come off, and my response is going to be filled with snark. In most cases, it won't be mean-spirited, but it is going to be a little condescending, especially if the thing that was said is not just incorrect, but stupid.
A good example is when someone (I don't remember who) referred to Ophelia Benson as "Ophie"; she claimed that this constituted harassment. Well, no, it doesn't. If Ophie (see what I did there) did not have a history of deleting comments, I'd be fine going over there and simply explaining why I think she's wrong. But that's not the case - she filters comments very heavily on her blog, sometimes even the most civil ones that happen to disagree with her; and she also lets extremely UNcivil comments through if they agree.
So that's what makes me, and presumably many others, to go bare-fisted so often. As for her biggest complaint, the photoshops, those are 99% all in good fun. They're parody. They're satire. There's also some of "our own" - most notably, a few taking a jab at Steersman, and quite a few about Justin Vacula (and if you'll notice, they don't complain about them), including a very poorly done one the other day by yours truly, featuring Justin with devil horns, a pitchfork, an iPatriarchy laptop, a shirt that says "I HATE WOMEN", and a large white penis (of authority). And on the few rare occasions when they cross the line, we (mostly) object.
So, you're right; our comments do make us look like normal, reasonable people. We ARE normal, reasonable people. There's just a great many comments. Maybe Ophie does feel "hunted down", but (and this may sound mean) that's really too bad for her. We're not doing anything that the average reasonable person would reasonably be offended by. The criticism is copious, and the photoshops are playful. If she doesn't like public commentary on her writing, then she should stop writing public things, or at least allow that commentary to take place on her own blog, without censoring.

Well said.
And it highlights, I think, one of my objections – and of others’ – that the FfTB/Skepchick/Atheism+ modus operandi of “shut-up and listen†through the mechanism of banning turns their blogs into echo-chambers, into little more than green-houses for hot-house flowers. Although one might reasonably argue that many of them are rather noxious weeds.

IMO, it is quite easy to charitable read Silverman's comment as including the unstated condition "if you do agree with them", because it seems clear (to me) that his aim was to encourage active visible public displays of agreement (as opposed to silently agreeing) so that the author gets positive (and visible) feedback.
<snip>
Steersman wondered how "agree with feminists publicly whether you disagree or not" could be different from Elam's suggetion that "men on juries trying rape cases should automatically vote for acquital." I have this to offer: reason can't be equated with existing law, because laws can be unreasonable. Jury nullification, which is what Elam is proposing for some cases, is a valid but delicate strategy in combating unreasonable law; it's not similarly valid to combat a claim with unreason. So, Elam might be wrong, but it's not because jury nulllification is inherently wrong the way poor reasoning is wrong, it's because the laws he's fighting might actually be reasonable. And also, if you want to argue that jury nullification IS necessarily wrong, you'll still have to use reason to do that (whereas "you should agree with people's claims just to make them feel good" is not reasonable). Also, your "regardless of the evidence" is too simplistic, I think. "Regardless of the evidence against a person," isn't the same thing as, "Regardless of the evidence against a law."
Been a while since I read those posts by Elam on jury nullification so I don’t recollect all of his arguments. However, I think you at least are conflating two separate aspects of the problem. While I’ll agree with you that there is some justification in thinking that rape trials are based on “unreasonable law†– highly circumstantial evidence as in false accusations for one, I think there is a significant common element with the supposed insistence that one should agree with feminists whether one agrees with their claims or not.
And that element is, as mentioned, the suggestion that one should go with a “my sex or party, right or wrong†position. Certainly seems to me that Elam was trying to sweep under the carpet the possibility that some men are actually guilty of rape as charged. And likewise that the claims of some feminists really don’t hold any water at all. Really seems to me that that position is largely if not always very bad karma.

Sort of like giving young teenage women some "robot" babies to take care of for a month or two ....
The key part is where she said:
peddling these ideas to young men, who have not even had enough experience to make an educated and informed decision to go MGTOW off the bat
Leaving it up to experience means (to me anyway) is to let them find out the hard way. Do not tell them anything. I fail to see how a young man can make an educated and informed decision without being informed and educated in the first place.
If I had known about what are now common manosphere tropes I am reasonably certain I would have seen all the red flags and never married my ex-wife because I would have been educated and informed. Actually this could be a rationalization, hindsight being 20/20 and all that.
Mind though, I have met young men who do seem to know what it is all about. One example is a 30 yr old gardner who has two kids with the same woman and has never lived with her. He explained to me that he owns his own house and that living together with her, never mind getting married is out of the question.

I like the idea I heard in some fiction, and possibly some ancient societies (vague memory of some - maybe Roman? IDK) - a sort of contract marriage that lasts for a year (or other time period). Let anyone do it, as long as they can legally consent. No penalties once the contract is over.
I think that is currently practiced in Iran so young people can date/fuck. Forgot where I read it, so grain of salt and all that.
It is also becoming more common in Muslim communities in the UK.
Yeah - that's a bit different in intent, but similar in practice. They do it to get around the "no sex without marriage" bit. They get married for a short time, get their rocks off, then get divorced. It's revealing at how little they think of their god, that they think that bit of trickery would fool him (that assumes they are actual believers and not just following the cultural norms). But, Orthodox Jews and other extremists in most religions do similar things.
Kinda like saying you're a feminist, while using sexist language and having sick fantasies about students dressed as half-fish (ewww....that's a nasty thought - I think I through up in my mouth a lot)!
A couple of notes about mut‘ah (temporary marriage and more properly know as Nikah mut‘ah) it is generally practised more commonly among Shia Muslims rather than Sunni Muslims. With the Sunni only the Hanafi school of jurisprudence allows it and it entirely legal and sanctioned under their laws.
Even so it is not regarded as "respectable" and there is a certain stigma attached to it.
A form of it may be allowed so that a young couple can "date" but in those cases where it is negotiated formally between two familys it does not include sex especially if the girl is a virgin, and indeed under those circumstances it is absolutely forbidden. It does allow the couple to spend time together which would otherwise be completely prohibited.
What the more secular Muslims do is an entirely different kettle of fish.

Honestly, when talking about Ron Lindsay's speech he sounded all the world line Rush Limbaugh complaining about communists, except he switched it for misogynists or MRAs.
He actually described Lindsays talk as "an MRA booster speech"!
PZ being demonizing and hyperbolic with someone he disagrees with? Shocking indeed!

If I recall correctly, PZ disabled ratings and comments long before the Richard Carrier A+ video (Now with an 11% approval rating!) came out. Kinda gives me the impression he knows how unpopular his shrieking little movement is. Just a hunch.

I don't know who "some scientists" are. Makes me wary of the findings altogether.
Ok, that was all a misreading on my part. I may have switched index finger with major (middle) finger. Screws the data a bit. My ring finger is actually a tinsy bit longer than my index finger.
And my cock needs two male hands (mine) to handle. Only the gland still pops out in such a grip.
TMI?
