I think that a Google hangout conversation (or several) about topics such as environmentalism would be a more interesting and productive way to have a dialogue involving opposing sides - I'm not advocating an insult-slinging video cage match, but I find the rules and moderation of Nugent's approach to be stifling and ultimately unproductive.
The closest thing that comes to that so far was the Google hangout with Myers, Concordance, Skeptical Heretic, and True Pooka. The trouble is that Myers is so uncomfortable with that type of format that all he does is blurt escalating ad homs until he's got his interlocutors in something like dumbfounded puzzlement.

Truth be told, I think what Myers has been trying to do recently, and I applaud his effort, is increase his conversational rhetorical skills, which despite being a lecturer, he's utterly inept at. As I recall, he even blew it at a creationist debate he attempted. It's possible that if he gets good enough at it, he'll be able to field real-time and open debates that might actually get somewhere. Just imagine how many issues might be resolved in a stroke if he and someone like Tfoot could get together and have a meaningful conversation. At his present skill level, however, the only thing that's going to happen is he's going to quickly feel boxed in and then he'll just start in with the insults as an escape mechanism.

Actually, he may not have it in him, so don't hold your breath.

The perfect recipe for a YouTube failure.
I don't mind the comments being switched off. I much prefer that rather than selective deletion of those that criticize him.
PZ's big problem with being a video star is that his voice is so booooring in person. He comes across as a middle aged college professor from fuckknowswhere university. Whatever you think of his last couple of years as a SJW, he can still write. But, unfortunately for him, his off-the-cuff video appearances seem very
amateurish. He always seems like he's about...to ...fall .......aslee..................p.
He's trying to get his trademark snark across in the video but doesn't realise that he actually has to, ya know, change the inflection of his voice now and then.

I read the last few comments, and yes, both Skep Sheik and Phil express the ideas about productive and interesting dialogue that I'd love to see implemented. A Google hangout with multiple participants from different backgrounds and with different opinions. If someone like Myers or Benson isn't comfortable with the format or disapproves of the other participants - too bad, leave them out. They have a voice in multiple different venues, so no loss and no injustice if they exclude themselves from a Google hangout.

In PZ's vlogging post, I find it interesting that he describes himself as "pinned down" in Morris this summer. He's going to DC for that Women in Secularism conference, and to Dublin as well, and probably other places ... so he's much less "pinned down" by work schedule than, for example, I am.

Interesting, if a person with a small penis isn't a man(because it takes a big penis to be a man), then aren't they a victim rather than perp?
Well, at least Taslima has provided an acid test which should lay to rest the haunting spectre of Schrodinger's rapist.

Radfem: 'Greetings male. I desire to know if you are likely to rape me or not. To determine this, I need to see your genitals. Please shed your patriarchal not-skirt."

Male lowers his trousers and no doubt manly-skidded underpants. Radfem examines his pudenda.

Radfem response A: 'Ew - watch out, the robins are nesting at the moment. That's tiny. Stay away from me, rapist."

Radfem response B: 'Blimey, that's a wife-tamer and a half! Welcome, decent non-raping male. I would be happy to wander naked with you.'
Recently Taslima seems to have comecum down with "penis on brain" syndrome. Big penises, small penises...penis, penis, penis.

Here, this might help:

[WhwbxEfy7fg
Penis Envy: The condition that impels someone to overcompensate their lack of success by over-ascribing bad intentions to anyone who's penis is bigger than theirs.

Speaking of Swedish words, I was at a conference a few years ago with a group of colleagues from different countries. The final day of the meeting had an official conference dinner which would be attended by everyone and it was scheduled to start at 18.00
One of the attendees was from Sweden and looked the part - tall blonde and beautiful- and was a little worried about getting lost and missing the start of the dinner so I (gallantly!) suggested to her that we meet up beforehand.
Now what she actually replied to me was simply a suggestion of a time of 17.30
Unfortunately she made a common Swedish mistake of using the Swedish expression for that time "halv sex" meaning half six in English (the Swedes call the half hour differently to English speakers - half six means 17.30 in the Swedish style, with half seven being 18.30 and so on.)
So what I heard was: "Have sex?"
And no, we didn't

So half-fish-mcbites has a new post up, where in he gets about 100% of the relevant facts wrong.

http://freethoughtblogs.com/crommunist/ ... ton-nazis/

Firstly, There was no Martial Law in Boston, there was a "Shelter in place" order from the Gov. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shelter_in_place. Which is an emergency procedure which typically only for up to 48 hours.

Secondly, the Boston police/FBI/Swat did not break into or "bust" into anyone's homes, they merely had the equipment present to do so if they had to. They rang bells, talked to owners, then searched. They also investigated homes that had no response to see if there was a window open, or broken, or something else that might indicate someone had broken into the home to hide(note: this can be and was done from outside the home).

Lastly, Jamie claimes that the US passed the CISpa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyber_Inte ... ection_Act in the wake of the tragedy. Despite that it had passed the house before, failed in the senate, and obama threatened a veto. So it passed the house again, guess that means it's US law....

I refuse to post on Crommunists blog since he edits comments and seems to be rather proud of that fact. Anyone else is welcome to bring up such points if they wish.

As usual with fishies posts, it's almost impossible to figure out what his fucking point is. Generally fishy only gets around to formulating a fucking point somewhere in the middle of the comment section after that has screeched off at a tangent that seems completely unconnected tomthe original post.
He did, however, make one interesting observation:
(Though I’m confident very few women will fully comprehend this paradox, I can assure you from direct personal experience that being kicked directly in the clitoris is exactly the same scale and magnitude of pain as being kicked in the balls.)
I'm trying to figure out the logic of that.
Wouldn't it mean that fishy has both testicles AND a clitoris?
Otherwise how would he know?

With PZ's open support of a feminist blog so insane that ordinary people think it's a piss-take, Half-Fish's paradoxically laughable yet depressing ramblings, Taslima's scientific discovery of the direct link between men with small cocks and rapists and Greta Christina's foray into rape-porn-literature whilst denouncing rape-culture I wonder how long it is until either FTB changes it's name in an attempt to claw back a shred of reputation or just gives up altogether and disbands.

It's a sign of things that all this is going on and yet the Pit is so slow lately. We've seen it ALL. We have become so inured to the lunacy, the hyperbole and the complete and utter hypocritical bullshit from FTB that I don't think anything less than PZ Myers running naked into the street, barking at cars and writing "HELP ME" onto his chest using his own turd as a pencil would faze us.

PZ Myers must cry himself asleep every night thinking about how far his star has fallen in the past two years. From chumming it up with the legendary Dawkins to barely scraping a handful of comments on his shitty blog from the same ten people over, and over, and over and that's only when he blogs about fem-drama. I don't even know why he attempts science blogging anymore because when he does the collective commentary silence, even from the sycophants, is so apparent he might as well post an animated tumbleweed GIF instead.

I didn't find commentary in the article along those lines, although there was this:
...the selectors' remit ruthlessly insisted on "influence over the past 12 months" and "significance to the year's biggest questions".

This requirement may have been a factor in the top 10 being all-male (presumably a source of frustration to the five women on the selection panel, including Prospect's editor Bronwen Maddox), with longlistees such as Hilary Mantel, Martha Nussbaum and Sheryl Sandberg not making it through to the elite of the elite, and the likes of Germaine Greer and Naomi Klein not even making it into the 65. But it may also, of course, simply reflect the gender make-up of the monthly's readership.
This seems a bit different than your take on it. The qualifications were quite narrow with that remit, being focused on recent current events. There were five women on the selection board, although the article does not mention the number of men (5, 10, 100?). There is that reference to the readership, which implies some sort of poll was taken, but no other reference is made in that regard. Were the selections made only by the Selection Board, the readers or some combination of the two? The article does not say.

The article then closes with this, which also reflects the effects of the qualifying remit:
As for Dawkins, the continuation of wars of religion and terrorist atrocities informed by it means his atheist crusade remains relevant to the year's biggest questions, despite the end of the Bible-bashing, war-mongering Bush era in which he first raised his banner – this week his 670,000 Twitter followers could find him (between musings about socks) rejoicing in France's legalisation of gay marriage, ridiculing a journalist's Muslim beliefs, and retweeting a story that the older Boston bomber "was angry that the world pictured Islam as a violent religion". On Monday, no doubt manfully resisting efforts to deify or idolise him, the world No 1 will attend the premiere in Toronto of a documentary about his roadshow (with Lawrence Krauss) promoting science and reason.
Dawkins remains very active on the forefront of the hot topics of the day and carries a very large footprint within the media, social and traditional, so given the specifics of the remit it is a given he will finish high in the standings.

Anyway, the poll aside, one of the things that really flipped me off with the influx of the SJW crowd into the atheist spaces was their attitude and intent to bury their white, male, cisgen predecessors so they could take over their hard earned positions as representatives of the modern atheist 'movement'. They actually believed they had the numbers and influence to do that (courtesy of their carefully maintained echo chambers, no doubt). When I jumped back into the fray to see what the fuss was about, and tried to point out to them what a very badly thought out strategy that was, well, you can guess how well that went! The upshot is that there is a certain satisfaction in seeing my predictions play out.

The meta-narrative that I've become aware of, particularly from things like Richard Carrier's recent A+ talk, is the idea that the atheism movement has recently burgeoned of its own accord. That Dawkins, Hitchens, etc. were just accidentally latched onto as the figureheads (because society is ageist, racist and sexist, and those were the only bunch of old white guys available).

OK, don't tell anyone, but I've got hold of what I've been told is an advance copy of PZ's new book!
Rumor has it there's a slight hiccup with the publishers as they try to get some better quotes for the back cover...

It would be sad if it wasn't so beautiful.
The thing I find is that the flood of hypocrisy coming from FTB is such a torrent, I can hardly keep up with it. Here, for example, as provided by a quick glance at Ophie's blog just moments ago:
Mehdi fights dirty. Maryam has nothing to do with the EDL or fascism; she denounces both.

He’s right that Muslims are a target group, but he’s dead wrong that all critics of Islam are xenophobic anti-Muslim bigots.
How often have we been told by sundry persons (including Pruney herself, if I remember rightly) at FTB that the Pit is little more than a front for AVFM? And that someone who might criticise the merest of the tenets of certain feminist ideas (or just Rebecca Watson) is a misogynistic, woman-hating bigot?

Do these people have no idea what they sound like? And do they seriously think that their...inconsistencies will always get a free pass?

I think they do realize what they sound like - which is the reason why they are so quick to label any criticism as harrassment.
It must piss them off something rotten to see the recent popularity in 'dramatic readings' of online writings and the accompanying logic behind this kind of mocking criticism.
Just look at this recent article on CNN regarding the sorority girl rant
http://edition.cnn.com/2013/04/24/tech/ ... hpt=hp_bn6
But it also hammers home a digital-era lesson that common sense suggests would have been clear a decade ago, but which example after example shows remains lost on many of us: If you share something with anyone on the Web, it's liable to be shared with everyone on the Web. And the fallout won't always be pleasant.

"In this Internet day and age, just assume that everything you put out into the ethers in writing is the equivalent of LiveJournals of yore," said Brenna Ehrlich, a senior editor at MTV and a CNN Tech contributor who has written about online etiquette. "Someone is going to read it and mock you. Proceed carefully."

We covered this in 3 of the 12 entries in our own "Rules of the Internet" earlier this year:

-- Anything you post will eventually become public

-- Anything you post can and will be used against you

-- If you post something epically stupid, it will go viral
Jon Stewart is even making regular cunt-punt jokes based on that one email!

Ophelia must be livid!

Kicking ovaries causes collateral damage.
It doesn't really make sense, or land as a successful joke. But it's obviously an attempt. How would that same comment play today?
