The Muslims I am or have been friends with (not counting vague acquaintances here) include Kurds, Bosnians and Eritreans. And, if it has come up at all, they have identified themselves by national identity first, religion second. To treat Islam as an ethnicity seems rather insulting.

The Muslims I know are Arab, Malaysian, Bangladesh, Albanian (one of them is the best sound tech I've ever met) and ethnic French.

Most of the Arabs I know are secular Atheists. I wish it was time to stop labelling Muslims as Arabs, or Brown People. It's too much of an easy scapegoat.

Incidently, in this oh so modern country that is France, and despite the 1905 Church and State separation act, we still have an enclave (namely Lorraine, and no Ted, you won't get that one back!) that has mandatory taxes to support various religious edifices and organisations. I couldn't live there if my life depended on it. That was just an aside.

Just one among a zillion logical inconsistencies of the Christian heaven. If a loved one will suffer by your absence in heaven then how can it be heaven for that person? Two possibilities: 1) Their mental state upon initiation to heaven will somehow be altered to exclude missing you, but then the question is to what extent their altered version can still be called them, as it will surely entail a whole raft of other alterations to account for other contingencies. 2) Some type of strange doppelganger version of you will be propped up in heaven to represent you and fool your relative as surrogate for you, who, it is presumed, will actually be in flaming hell. And so, heaven involves willful deception and brainwashing of heavenly residents.

Either way, that's some weird shit. (Actually, gives me some ideas for a screenplay.)

I once had a believer tell me option 1 would happen and he fully believed that was a good thing. I thought he was insane and should have backed away slowly. Interestingly I've encountered one Muslim who identified themselves as Muslim first and American second, and I feel that's probably a good measure of how freaky fucked up someone is in their faith. Same rule for other religions, too.
