I actually enjoyed that video a lot. It hit on a lot of themes I agree with. Lego stores now are constantly pushing the licensed products, and do seem to be aimed mostly at boys, which include star wars, comic book heroes, and movie characters. This "Friends" line is just goofy looking and I hate it and I'm not getting it for my daughter. Now, Lego is trying to make money, so I understand why now they are pushing basically generic GI Joe stuff over "cooperate and play" stuff, but it is annoying and can be difficult to find sets that my daughter is actually interested in. She does like to build stuff, though she has been using these cool magnet toys to build things rather than the legos.

That's where I was scratching my head as well. My parents purchased generic Legos for me when I was a kid and I have purchased both the generic and the supposed "boy" sets for all three of my kids (2 girls and a boy).

Oh, and I still fail to see how purple is a "girl" color.

The Harry Potter 'Knight Bus' is purple my 9yr old (boy) tells me.
I think the big problem with modern lego is it all comes in 'sets'
When i was a kid you would get a box of general lego with an instruction book to build 20-30 things from the bricks you had. Now you pay the same price for one item and imagination has gone out of it, until you have spent a bloody fortune getting a collection together. I swoop on any bags of bricks i see in 2nd hand stores.

You may want to look up what kickstarter is. It is a method of obtaining money up front in order to produce a promised product. It is becoming very popular and allows products or services that would otherwise not be made. She has not produced the product she received a substantial sum for several months after she got the money. Yet she's asking for more hence the comment made. Otherwise I agree, it is fine asking for support. In fact I encourage it. That wasn't the context however.

It does bother me and it may affect me. I and others I know are looking to do kickstarter projects and people like her give it a bad name.

I'm vaguely aware of what it is. One thing I don't understand - do you just get money sent to you? What happens if you don't do what you said you were? Anyway, from her website it sounds like she is still working on it. I would imagine there would be a big backlash if she doesn't do it, but it seems premature to judge her based on not having a big project done. Also, it appears all of her videos have a little thing at the end asking for donations, and the lego video was done well before the kickstarter idea.

I'm vaguely aware of what it is. One thing I don't understand - do you just get money sent to you? What happens if you don't do what you said you were? Anyway, from her website it sounds like she is still working on it. I would imagine there would be a big backlash if she doesn't do it, but it seems premature to judge her based on not having a big project done. Also, it appears all of her videos have a little thing at the end asking for donations, and the lego video was done well before the kickstarter idea.

What happens is contributions are made. Depending on the level of contribution you may get something more back (such as a character named after you in a video game) You do get money sent to you or whatever vehicle you have set up for the project. In fact any investor would want to know the skills of whoever is doing it, like any other business, and see clear progress being made. The people doing it would be expected to show results and reports as they go.

As far as I know, like any investment, there is no payback if nothing is produced. As long as investors are smart this should only happen for normal business failure reasons (there's been some spectacular failures) However she sold her idea on something tenuous and heavily promoted the Rad Fem thing, so of course people invested based on emotion rather than business sense. She had nothing to show and produced nothing. All she has to do is start showing mysogony in games, any of us could do that in 10 minutes if you take the Rad Fem line. Do a couple a week and she'd have done what she said she would do in no time. Then write up a report and off you go, easy. A few thousand would cover that if not less.

Kickstarter relies on the goodwill of people to get projects off the ground. In my opinion she abused that goodwill so far. She may come up with something that's great but I won't be holding my breath. At best she stopped her project from being taken up by someone who would have at least done something by now. She has probably closed that door for them.

I was watching a preview, and one of the priests who had tried to do the right thing and inform secular law enforcement was saying how he was told; "We don't turn in our priests".
He then asked a question that had never occurred to me and that, when I heard it, I found utterly chilling; "What would have happened had there been a string of murders?"
Now that it's brought up, would any of us be surprised if that is indeed the next thing that comes to light?
